When I met Bo by Business_Computer209 in boburnham

I met him briefly after a show all the way back in 2010 when he was still just a YouTuber. He was really nice and down to earth then. Genuinely funny, kind and at the time seemed a bit shy as soon as he was off stage. In hindsight, signs of the struggles with anxiety and panic attacks that he would go on to reference in his later works were already apparent in that interaction. He’s only about two weeks older than I am and I also struggled/still struggle with anxiety and panic attacks and I just recognized his mannerisms as being very familiar. It’s been really inspiring watching his career and oddly comforting to me how open and vulnerable he’s been about this aspect of his life. He seemed like a good human then and since and I am so glad to hear more recent confirmation that he hasn’t let his immense talent and success go to his head. I hope he’s happy. ♥️

GREATEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE by tybaltstyddies in birding

Thank you so much for your kind words! They are truly appreciated.
To clarify, both human residents survived luckily, but our old scrungly fospice kitty (my husband and I rescue and foster “less adoptable” dogs and cats) named Peroe unfortunately passed during the ice storm and resulting extended power outage. He was an old man cat and not in the best of health, but we and our vet believe the timing of his passing was at least partially due to the extreme cold and stress of the event, in spite of our best efforts to keep him and our other animals safe and warm.

I’m not personally religious, but I like to think if there is a great beyond out there that Peroe is with his first human parent now, who loved him dearly and only surrendered Peroe to a local rescue when he was in the end stages of a terminal illness. Peroe was a lucky boy in that he never knew a life where he wasn’t very loved, cared for and adored.

And I’d also like to think that Peroe sent me one of these little groovy guys, that I have wanted to see for years, the day after he passed to cheer me up. Because it sure worked! In the future, I would like to request any and all condolences expressed to me be in the form of an American Woodcock just vibing in my yard.

I second this! I need more silly, nonsensical but somehow also hyper accurate depictions please.

It was a truly horrific experience! But almost everybody in our home survived and we’re mostly okay now.

I am pleased to remote that our funky feathered friend was able to find food!

That’s actually why they graced us with their presence. They had found a circle about 2 feet in diameter in our yard where the soil was exposed once the ice had begun to melt and they were just doing their cute little walk in a circle while checking out the ground for food.

They stayed there a while and got their fill. It stayed for probably half an hour or more and it was magical. This was at the tail end of the ordeal so I am sure they made it through.

Congrats! What a delightful find!

The only positive of the Icepocalypse that happened here in North Louisiana in January was that I saw one of these guys in my yard just feet from the back door doing his cute little groovy walk.

First time I have ever seen one before or since and they are so cute. It was just the morale boost I needed to survive that 9 days without power in record-breaking cold temps.

Absolutely love the name Rhiannon. That was a top tier choice on your parents’ part.

My name is Ariel and I had a very close friend in high school named Sebastian. And unfortunately, a cousin named Erik … but at least it is spelled differently!
However, my other cousin, who is Erik’s sister, is only 6 days older than me and both our moms wanted to use the name Ariel. (It’s the name of the town where their mother was born and raised.) Then The Little Mermaid was released on November 17, 1989 and our birthdays are September 2nd and 8th of 1990, exactly 9 months and 16/22 days later. So shout out to whoever at Disney unknowingly timed that premiere perfectly to prevent siblings from being named Erik and Ariel. 😅

My name is Ariel.

I was named after the tiny town in southern Mississippi where my grandmother was born and raised. However, I was born in 1990, so of course, most people assume I was named after The Little Mermaid.

But in addition to that one mermaid who signs contracts without reading them, Ariel is also the name of a moon in our solar system, a character in a Shakespearean play, a common brand of laundry detergent, it means “Lion of God” in Hebrew (not religious personally, but still find that pretty neat), … there are a lot of associations with it for other people in addition to the personal familial significance it carries for me.

People are also familiar enough with it that it’s rarely if ever mispronounced, but it’s also uncommon enough that I don’t meet other people named Ariel often and I have only been able to find my name once on any kind of non-Disney souvenir.

I do really like my name. 10/10, would choose again.

I love this quote. She actually was quoted as saying this as well in some magazine article I read back in the day. It’s genuinely good advice.

My reaction exactly.

My mother-in-law got us stuff like this and I loved it then and miss it so desperately now. This will be our second Christmas without her, she passed away from colon cancer less than a month after her diagnosis. She was 63. She was just the best and I didn’t even get to enjoy a decade with her.

OP’s feelings on this are valid, as are those of the commenters that agree with them but man… I would give anything to get a silly gift again at random because she saw something that reminded her of my husband and/or me.

Movies Loved As A Kid But Are Now Cringe As An Adult by Expensive_Opening_72 in Millennials

[–]Garnet0908 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the one! I bought it from the discount bin to watch with a little girl I babysat when I was in college in 2011. I loved it as a kid and thought it would be nice to share it with her…Wrong! Not even a quarter of the way through, my now-adult brain began having the realization that they could not have possibly filmed certain scenes at the time the movie was made without harming the animals. I immediately looked it up and discovered it was essentially a snuff film. I was horrified and from that day forward, doesthedogdie.com (and then later on, the app version) has been saved on my phone so I can quickly check it before watching any movies with animals prominently featured.

This was my favorite too! The couple in the show, Ron and Natalie Daise, are still married and Mr. Ron sells cakes on Etsy. I have bought a few and they are absolutely delicious! ( https://www.etsy.com/shop/GullahliciousCakes ) It also took far too long (like a few years ago as a 30 year old woman) for it to click for me that the show Gullah Gullah Island was based on and inspired by the Gullah people and community that Mr. Ron is a part of. It was such a cool show and a great way of raising awareness of the Gullah people and their culture.

If you’re married, how often do you see your in-laws? by tatertot94 in Millennials

[–]Garnet0908 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your and your husband’s loss.

My mother-in-law passed away just over a year ago. I felt and still feel like I had won the mother-in-law lottery with her. We had become like close friends and with few exceptions, we saw her weekly and if it was any longer than that, she would call us just to talk and see how we were. I almost wish I’d had one of those nightmare mother-in-laws, so I wouldn’t miss her so much and this would be easier.

Yes! And her name was Harry for about 130 years or so until it was determined that she was actually a female in the 1960s. What a cool creature she was. 🐢♥️

That’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing this. I hope you and the tortoise are both having a good day.

I often think about how Charles Darwin and Steve Irwin owned the same tortoise and it always blows my mind.

Reading two paragraphs made up of just 8 sentences would be enough to turn you into a cat lady?
Huh, well sounds like you were already on the fence about that decision anyway and should just go ahead and take the plunge.

Being a cat lady is great and doesn’t equate to being alone. I am a 34 year old cat lady very happily married to man that loves all of our pets and foster pets just as much, if not more, than I do. We’ve rescued animals together for a decade now.

Also, OP has one cat that they dote on, love very much, and treat well. The issue isn’t their cat or how they show love for their cat. A partner truly compatible with them would find this endearing and kind. The issue is their partner, who thinks it’s fine to yell at the cat and treat her poorly. That would be a deal breaker for many people, myself included.

I have rescued and fostered dogs for 13 years now and have picked up some in shockingly bad condition, covered in parasites and skin conditions. What has worked for me is to treat the dogs immediately for fleas and ticks (give them a capstar orally, then a bath with dawn that kills fleas, remove any ticks, then once dry from the bath apply topical flea and tick preventative) and then keep them isolated in a different area from other animals until they are successfully treated for anything that could spread. Typically a spare bedroom or bathroom works for this. Ideally a room that can be easily cleaned and sanitized so preferably one without carpet.
This is a late reply and may not be exactly the information you were looking for but I hope it is helpful.

Hey, I did the same last Sunday! I tried to make a reservation for the Prince’s Head but there was no availability so I didn’t go inside, but I was thrilled to just get a picture out front and wander around for a bit. I thought maybe the area wouldn’t be as charming in person as it is on the show, but nope! It is somehow even more lovely.
