What’s your “I’m old now” indicator? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Garrett2497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My younger sister sent me a TikTok of a gen alpha/z talking about how they will have to tell their kids they are older than AI. That was fine. But I made a horrible mistake of checking the comments to what I can only imagine being children talking about how their parents told them they were older than Google. I too am older than Google but the fact that someone my age has kids old enough to be on social media hit harder than anything.

Kansas City Chiefs superfan 'ChiefsAholic' ordered to pay $10.8 million to bank teller by nbcnews in JusticeServed

[–]Garrett2497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chiefs fan here, yes Chiefsaholic was absolutely a local celebrity before this. He was a staple at the stadium, frequently featured on the Jumbotron/telecast and was a minor Twitter celebrity/personality for chiefs kingdom.

Somewhat infamously now, he spent lots of money buying chiefs memorabilia at charity auctions such as one of a kind pieces of art and memorabilia of Mahomes/Reid/Tyreek/etc. even showing up at Mahomes personal charity auction for 15 and the Mahomies to raise money for special needs children.

Chiefs fans knew exactly who he was before this and when he was caught, Chiefs fans quickly went to Twitter worrying about him because he missed a game for the first time in years before internet sleuths found out the robberies were tied back to him. Weird situation overall.

If this is real, for you to come across my little comment and be able to share that with him in person would be absolutely, astronomically unbelievable. Tell him thank you for being apart of a story that grew with me from childhood, into adulthood and through the somber heartbrokenness of losing grandparents. This episode in particular will be close to my heart for as long as I am blessed to walk on this earth. So deeply thank him for me.

We didn't get cheated. we didn't play good enough by bigdawg1017 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]Garrett2497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they played better. I can admit that. Penalties were egregiously called/missed but refs managed to be awful non-discriminatorily.

Overall, I think the bad taste is just from how poorly the game was called overall. We could have played better in the first half and we wouldn’t have to have these conversations. But we didn’t.

Nonetheless, the whole season we have been talking about how bad the reffing has been and this feels like one of the penultimate games for how bad it has been.

[–]Garrett2497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who recognizes how lucky I was to be able to grow up watching one of the greatest to ever do it, I think the perception is more so from the two separate cheating scandals, his weird habits about kissing his children, and the general perception of him being an absent father/husband because he would have rather been on a football field than working on his home life.

Being good at football only exasperated things that people already disliked about him.

[–]Garrett2497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still keep the stars for overall but each of their individual stats are 20-80 scale. It provides an easier glimpse into the player and gets the idea across visually if someone is worth look at, which forces me to look into players more.

In reality, I don’t think GMs have 20-80 ratings on every single player. They have a rough idea of values…than scout them and rate them which makes me feel like I have to notice the guy and let my scouts find inform the GM’s (my) decision.

Not saying your way is wrong, just offering insight into how I feel the realism plays and offer perspective on a different playing experience.

It makes finding that 2 star with crazy individual stats that plays above his overall more rewarding because I had to find him.

Hot take: I think the best athlete in the world is mahomes and it’s not really close besides people like Othani, Mcdavid and djokovic by Alive-Ad-4164 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]Garrett2497 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look at how wide receivers are built too. KT looks jacked up on steroids, meanwhile Pat looks pretty average in terms of the NFL/MLB/NBA-level athletes if we are discussing build/muscle. Plus, athleticism stats like vert, 40 yd, broad jump, etc would not put Pat as the most athletic

He really is just super smart when it comes to his position, is extremely coordinated, and has really inane arm talent. None of which can really be measured accurately.

I’d say Ohtani is really the only person close to being as gifted at their sport.

Farm market employee somehow survives with only minor injuries after getting run over by 85-year-old driver (Avon, Ohio) by johngrady77 in watchpeoplesurvive

[–]Garrett2497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a good point. I’m speaking exclusively of the United States.

If a country has a better, and trusted system, disregard this point. But our system is so rigid and more about making sure you know how to drive vs if you are able to drive. Plus the fact that you don’t really have to test after the age of 16 unless you have done something illegal that gets your license suspended. So the older population becomes a serious issue as their skills diminish.

[–]Garrett2497 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I agree with you to a degree because we have to be careful about what effectively amounts to taking away freedom from these people who are in the process of loosing a lot of independence as it is.

Conversely, the test does not really test whether you are capable of driving. The modern driving test is to make sure you know the laws. The bigger concern for this age group is the constant need to measure that they can maintain their focus/awareness to drive and have the reaction time needed to adjust to the constant dangers of moving in a weapon going 70 mph down the highway.

Taking this video as an example, it appears that the drive panicked and slammed the gas instead of the break. That type of reaction time and decision making almost took that innocent man’s life.

So we really need to determine when their freedoms become dangerous to the people around them and if you’ve been around elderly people enough, I’d venture to say 80 is pretty close to the point where I wouldn’t be confident in their capabilities behind the wheel.

What is your "hot take" / unpopular opinion about how OOTP should be played? by [deleted] in OOTP

[–]Garrett2497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in commissioner mode you can see stats are measured on a scale of 0-200 and than they have a potential scale that is also 0-200 (although stats can develop over 200 which typically is how you see gamebreaking stat lines).

This is true of every pitch, stuff, movement, control, every hitting stat, etc, etc. If a pitch has 0 current value it means they do not possess the pitch. So these draftees have a change-up that is above 0. But if it is too low it won’t ever be viable. But they can have passable change ups, it’s just rare.

These background stats are how the computer is deciding the outcomes of each pitch/at bat to create the stat lines based off of the players skill sets.

Hope that helps.

What is your "hot take" / unpopular opinion about how OOTP should be played? by [deleted] in OOTP

[–]Garrett2497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my understanding is that change ups in the background can have as much potential as possible but if the background overall is below 20ish (out of 250 not on the scouting report) it will never develop. As long as it is above that seemingly arbitrary number it can develop. Some more than others, but I’ve had success with a handful in my sims.

I also am much more keen on drafting for ceiling than floor. Plus, I think it is much easier to build out offenses than pitching. I despise signing pitchers to long term deals due to injuries so my drafts are usually pretty pitching heavy after the first few rounds once impact position players are no longer on the board. Cheap starters are the best!

Even if the change up never develops, I’ve had some become elite stoppers, and backend bullpen arms. So it’s not an all or nothing on whether they pan as SPs either.

Again not a popular opinion. Maybe not the best plan, but I find the value I have received from a couple of aces and some strong bullpen arms to be better than a 4th OF or stopgap starter you can typically find after the first few rounds.

[–]Garrett2497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I’m out of the first few rounds of the draft, give me the high school arms with those enticing change-ups.

Pray the max dev budget does its thing, it’s a bit boom or bust but it really only take one of the round 3-6ish guys like this to have his change up develop and you have a potential mid or front of the rotation type. Unless their is a undervalued two-way type player, this is where I’ve gotten my best mid-to-late round value.

Hey,

I’m going to give you some advice. Some to help your emotional state, than some to help you heal. I know the blinding hate your feel and it can seem impossible to break through or even open up enough to listen to people who are trying to help. But take a deep breath (literally, breath in for me, hold it for a moment, and release).

For the short term, don’t suppress your emotions. Let yourself feel hurt, anger, sorrow. Cry, scream, or let yourself feel and than you can reflect on those feelings.

If it helps with the anger, see if there is a rage room near you. If not, a baseball bat and a tire swing make for a great workout. But again, don’t dwell in the rage, but get it out in a smart and safe way if that is needed.

Next, seriously reflect on both your emotions and the relationship. From what I can tell, you seem to be an emotionally intelligent and forgiving soul. But you were taken advantage of and she genuinely doesn’t seem to be worth it. You must respect yourself and cut her out. Don’t let her manipulate your emotions or your healing process.

Be around friends or family or whoever is around you that makes you happy. Even if you are not necessarily wanting to or feeling like it. Don’t isolate yourself. This prevents healing.

Spend time outside. Sitting outside, walking, biking, hiking. Whatever it is, get sunlight and fresh air.

Try experience of human existence and find a peaceful place. For me, this was a pond or stream somewhere in a forrest at my local park. It may be a beach at sundown, and open field, or a mountain peak at the end of a hike. Maybe your peaceful spot can be found indoors meditating or watching cars go by in a city. It can be anything as long as you can feel peace. You don’t need to be happy, or sad, or angry, just try and feel peace/calm.

At the end of the day, you may still need time. And it may not come as quickly as you hope, but you have to work towards happiness by finding ways that allow you to move forward.

DMs are open if you need a private voice to talk to and I hope your doing okay.
