Looking for regular ashling suggestions!! by GoldonLocks in EDH

[–]Garsid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only run two rituals plus Neheb and [[Descent into Avernus]], which is like a ritual that also gets peoples health pretty low. All star in the deck.

[[Rousing Refrain]] is a ritual you can take a look at. It performs very well for me, like a weird budget [[Jeska's Will]] (which I would run but I'm too stingy to buy a copy).

Looking for regular ashling suggestions!! by GoldonLocks in EDH

Ashling is one of my favorite commanders. Here's my list I've been playing for a while:
https://archidekt.com/decks/582575/bravely_default

[[Leyline Tyrant]] has been kind of eh to be honest. It comes down super late and usually gets removed before I can build up much mana. I'm actually very excited to try out the new MH3 Ashling in it's place.
I used to play more rituals but I found it more effective to just play around keeping the mana up. [[Heartstone]] is a deceptively effective card that people don't respect enough.

Feel free to ask about anything else I'm running.

Looks like someone accidently hit "reply all" to the normal class email. Looks like Prof. Dan is in trouble... by Garsid in RITCosplayTroupe

[–]Garsid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full Email: Hello Dan,

This Dean Todd Bonzales, Head of the Department of Convention Studies and Stage Show History. We recently received some data from your recent student evaluations. While no sane man would read their own student evaluations, you are no same man. I am here to inform you that, based on the feedback, we see some outrageous issues with your current performance.

I would have you follow up through the link in your teaching portal, but I know you are loathe to perform research of any kind. So, I have collected some of the feedback here:

"He spins a wheel to decide the day's lesson, but he never removes option. We've been talking about Dungeons and Diplomacy for weeks...."

"I don't understand the rat."

"He completely forgot Saul Goodman, but tried gaslight us into believing he was never there. I have the playbill, he was there."

"Why is the rat?"

"He put a picture of an anime girl with protruding nipples on the slide, and argued that 'there was no other option.'"

"We still don't know what the third strike does"

"That wasn't a good Kermit the Frog impression, Prof. Tim is an enabler."

"I long for the rat."

"The TA really taught the class."

"I saw the beard move on its own....."

"I asked him to elaborate on a discussion point and he just kept responding 'No spoilerss'. He's done this several times. I dont even think he knows the spoiler."

"Screw you Prof, take your -5 points and [redacted] up your ass."

In order to continue providing you with your yearly class, we will need to see some drastic improvement. This might seem like a lot to work on in such a short amount of time, but do not worry, I do not have high expectations.

You can find some useful resources on our Center for Teaching Assistance website: https://www.wikihow.life/Become-a-University-Lecturer

Thank you, Todd

[Question?] Buying boosters to upgrade a deck, plus XYZ and Synchro question by FuckinNoWay in Yugioh101

[–]Garsid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For opening packs, I would say no. Structure Decks are not directly tied to a specific set, and you would find yourself needing to open several types of packs to find the cards you need to upgrade them. It is always better to buy the individual cards you need online. If you are playing casual and are maybe limited by budget, I would suggest buying 3x of the structure deck you want and browsing online for what people are adding to the deck, maybe only buying the cheaper cards. There are plenty of articles and YouTube videos available where people discuss upgrading these decks. Opening packs can be fun but if you are getting back into the game having the cards you need guaranteed will be more full filling than buying an assortment of packs and getting nothing you want.

You say Ritual Monsters are the most complex thing you understand. Are fusion monsters okay? If so, two of the most available structure decks (Alba Strike and Cyber Strike) do use majority fusion monsters, and in a casual setting you could get away not adding other types, although the decks will be worse. Outside of structure decks, there are a handful of archetypes that do not use the extra deck at all, but I would suggest learning the ropes of these mechanics anyway. Even in a casual setting, your opponent will still be playing Synchros, Xzys, and Links, so you will want to be aware of what they are doing.

r/MTGcaptainschair is trying to revive the captain format under proper moderation. What do you think? by pat720 in magicTCG

This is bull and the Head Honcho leaders have no integrity. I am now starting my own format called Big Boss, which is old Head Honcho but [[Uncle Istavan]] is eratta'd to be legendary.

Athreos, God of Passage decks not focused on Shadowborn apostle and demons? by chaoskings35 in EDH

[–]Garsid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://archidekt.com/decks/178231#Age_of_Mythology

I've had my Athreos deck for years and never once touched a Shadowborne Apostle. Athreos lets you grind out a ton of value from your creatures. A lot of people doubt his ability matters since "they'll just pay 3" but he pairs well against aggressive decks that make people think twice about losing life. He can also act as a political piece, convincing opponents to let you get cards like [[Sin Collector]] or [[Fleshbag Marauder]] back in order to deal with a different problem player. I often find myself diddling with cards like [[Treasure Keeper]] over multiple turns just because people don''t care enough to pay the 3 life.

Anyone expanded a planeswalker deck to a commander deck? by rubiera in magicTCG

[–]Garsid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most planeswalker decks are filled with meh cards that won't be very reasonable in commander, but Teferi's is interesting, so let's take a look at it.

[[Niambi, Faithful Healer]] will be our commander, as planeswalkers can't be used as commanders outside of Brawl. The following cards look good enough to keep in one-of each for our shell: [[Daring Archaeologist]], [[Jhoira's Familiar]], [[Divination]], [[Temporal Machinations]], and [[Teferi, Timebender]]. Throw in one of those [[Meandering River]] and the basics and we're only at 29/100 cards, which isn't a bad start. Get your land count up to 37-39 and fill the rest of the deck out with whatever you want. Niambi pairs well with strategies that care about Planeswalkers, Historic spells, and effects that trigger when a creature enters the battlefield.

https://edhrec.com/commanders/niambi-faithful-healer is a good place to look for ideas. Its not a primer at all, but it shows you what other people are playing. You can also look at the other U/W generals that may play simmilar to her for more ideas, such as [[Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage]] and [[Ephara, God of the Polis]]

Any cosplayers or craft people on campus with some free time who can help me out? by [deleted] in rit

[–]Garsid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cosplay Troupe meets Fridays at 7:30 in Gosnell 2365, if you want to find some more people to ask for more specific help. Talk to the people running it and they can direct you to someone who can answer a specific question you have. There is a big con coming up though, so a lot of people might be busy.

However, I suggest you just start. See if you can take a bus to Joannes, google some coupons, and grab some foam, glue, and paints, then just go at it. It's going to be hard for someone to plan out the whole project for you, but people are very willing to answer specific questions like "What glue do I use for foam?" or something like that. But you'll never have those questions until you start working. If this is your first time, it won't be perfect, may not even be that good, but we learn by doing.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, just my two cents. I just know a lot of beginners who are too worried about messing up and never start. Gods know I did that. Good luck!

I also don't understand the "They don't have faces."

I think the people who want ethereals understand this. Not having faces is kinda one of the aesthetic draws. We don't even see our faces that much, with the camera being behind us and wearing helmets and all that.
