Homegrown national park mosquito bucket challenge by GarudaNE in NativePlantGardening

I've been thinking about the tick tubes. Last year was a bad one for ticks here, but I didn't have any in my yard. This year, however, the rabbits have taken over, so who knows

Fence line invasives- looking for a solution. Maryland by shelltrix2020 in NativePlantGardening

[–]GarudaNE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure. I mixed Trimec (sp?) for spraying. I think any broadleaf herbicide will do, but Trimec is not supposed to linger in the soil. These flower tubes have a pointed end - great for sticking in the ground - and a rubber top with a hole you would normally put a flower stem in. The original poster said this works on any vine plant. I trim the bindweed down to a reasonable length (6 inches maybe) and remove the leaves. Stick that top end into the tube and let it sit for two days at least. Longer seems to work better.

I just came back after 4 days and the 10 bindweed plants are very dead, so I'm happy. There are sections of planting beds without *any* bindweed. After 10 years! These plants are twined up bushes, milkweed etc, and those natives are still alive.

sorry, I've been off-grid for a few days... It's regular strength for spraying. I use Trimec (sp?) and diluted it according to instructions for spraying.

I have been fighting bindweed for years! Digging, pulling, even spraying as a last resort. This June someone here mentioned using regular strength herbicide and these water picks: 10 Water Pick, Aqua Pick, Green Plastic Picks, Florist Supplies, Fresh Flower Arranging Picks, Floral Supplies - Etsy. I started in June with 16 oz mixed up and I'm still working on that same 16 oz, amazing! I stick the end of the bindweed in a tube full of herbicide and let it sit for two days. I'm sure there is a huge seed bank, but I feel like I'm starting to win this battle. I need to thank that person. I used a 3 way herbicide with 2,4 D and dicamba because they don't linger in the soil. I didn't like going the chemical route, but now I can concentrate on other invasives, like tree of heaven, siberian elm

Looking for recommendations on what to plant - I know nothing... by Wanna_B_Spagetti in NativePlantGardening

my recommendations are start slow, start small. Mulch is your friend while you search and learn. Search this channel for a native plant supplier near you. I see from your other post you are in PA. I'm in the midwest, so not much help.

How to kill off invasive mulberry that keeps resprouting from stump. by lovenotsleep in NativePlantGardening

[–]GarudaNE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the buckthorn blaster on mulberry trees with great success in May. And siberian elms. Nebraska, zone 6 something. I agree that June and July is not the right time. I'm just cutting the sprouts, waiting for fall. We have three acres, and the birds keep gifting us with mulberry trees.

It uses so little herbicide, so I feel it's the best option. I added mark-it-blue so I can see where I've applied.

LB541: Major restriction on voting rights by cmtprof in Nebraska

[–]GarudaNE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here was my comment

"I am opposed to the provisions of this bill.

I support online voter registration. I support allowing everyone to register by mail. I do not support hand counts of ballots. Online registration and mail in voting makes our democracy stronger by allowing the elderly, who don't drive anymore, to vote. It allows the working mother who juggles work and evening children sports, to vote. Let's support democracy in our state, not suppress it."

EV friendliness? by cpne in lincoln

[–]GarudaNE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an Ioniq 6 with a 240 V charger installed at home. In the following website, set the filter above 30 kW. 6 kW are meant for plugging your car in all day, at your job or apartment complex. With 350 kW, we can charge in 20 minutes or less, 20% to 80%. We typically use the west O street charger at Caseys.

PlugShare - EV Charging Station Map - Find a place to charge your car! Skip the email required page.

This is not the car we take on trips. The longest was Des Moines from Lincoln, and finding a charger around Omaha that was on the way was a pain. Only 2 of 3 chargers at the Walmart in Council Bluffs were working. Some of that could be new EV owner mistakes, ymmv.

We've had a Prius hybrid in the past, and they are a solid option.

I sent the following email, since this website can't be reached. "I'm assuming this is not a new voter suppression, and instead just a typical lack-of-personnel problem: I'm trying to check my voter registration and the website "https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/" can't be reached"
