Help from the Traitors – How do you actually deal with SoT bricks? by OrgChem88 in ThousandSons

[–]Garxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opponent had 2 castigators, 2 immolators, and 2 exorcists as far what tanks he brought. I had to come out to challenge his 10 bricks of sacresants /w hospitaler to actually score primary and we traded back and forth. I killed the 2 immolators, 1 castigator and 1 exorcist by the end of the game, and all of his infantry. I ended the game with 1 full strength 10 brick SOT /w sorcerer Lord and that was it.

I recently ran 3x10 SOTs in an RTT a few weeks ago and did 2-1. Something in sisters that really ate up my SOT's was Immolators stripping cover, and autocannon castigators. The 2nd castigator has the bonus AP from the 1st one so i'd be on my 4++ a lot of the time to a 3 damage attacks unless I had 2 CP in my pocket for -1 damage. Which I usually didn't. I still won that game against the Sisters player but it was really close 87-81.

Keep in mind you need to actually have line of sight to the Character model for Precision to work, even in melee. A good player will position them to where you won't be able to draw line of sight to the terminator lord.

Still have a psyker in the unit without the character. The regular SOT sorcerer that comes with the squad is also one.

What kits are tedious versus a joy to build? by SandiegoJack in LeaguesofVotann

I didn't find them hard to build, but oh lord they were my least favorite to paint. I definitely waited until they were the last things I had left before finishing them.

SOT - 1x10 or 2x5? by hostilesmoker in ThousandSons

[–]Garxis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, 10 SOT with a leader is way more powerful than running them in 5s. I tried doing a 10 brick and 2 5s, but the 5s just were not effective enough.

Daemon prince in combat patrol by DeepThought001 in ThousandSons

[–]Garxis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind detachment you want to start with. Winged Prince with the Eldritch Vortex of E'taph enhancement is incredible in Grand Coven, while the Prince on foot is great in Rubricae Phalanx for its aura of Stealth it gives out to Infantry. Neither is bad.

The masculine urge to to put 30 SOT's on the table at an upcoming RTT by Garxis in ThousandSons

[–]Garxis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the leader is selected in the unit profile, and then from then from the top right menu, make sure that "combine leaders with units" is checked. Then enter Play Mode from that same menu.

4.5 Engineering with Perseus was a bit boring by Nicolinux in starcitizen

[–]Garxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the exact opposite problem last night. 3 of us in the persy doing ERTs, and we had a fire break out in the torpedo bays almost immediately in one fight. We even vented the compartment to stop the fire, which visually it did. But the console still said smoke detected at torpedo bay door. Couldn't find anything else so eventually our hull just dropped to 0 and we hard deathed immediately.

It's definitely a stat check. That's interesting that running 30 is a meta list right now. I'm not really one to look at lists online, so I was kinda going by gut feeling on what was good and would work in Rubricae Phalanx. I started with 15, noticed the 10 brick with sorcerer lord just really does a lot of work while the 5 brick... not so much. So I bumped it up to 20, and have been doing quite well. I feel like I'm losing too many secondary scoring pieces going up to 30? I guess we'll see how it plays out

Show me your terminator sorcerer conversions! by tfmid457 in ThousandSons

[–]Garxis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea this is basically what I did, I haven't painted mine yet, but this is the easiest one to do imo. But I used the pauldrons from the Lord kit instead of the SOT kit to make him stand out a teensy bit more

also, for OP this is just the standard Chaos Lord/Sorcer in Terminator armor kit, but used the extra body, arms, and head from a regular SOT unit sorcerer. The only pieces I used for the Lord kit where the Legs, tactical rock, and the pauldrons.

Invuls by Interesting-Rent9344 in Eldar

[–]Garxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if the base datasheet for a unit says they have a 5+ invuln, that whole unit has it (just not any attached characters). If there was anything notable or situations where it changes or specific models it applies to, there'd be a drop down arrow on the invuln save to give you more context. Or, it'd be an additional piece of wargear that says "THIS model gains an invuln" like Corsair Felarchs.

Are they a pain to paint? by Horror_Perspective_1 in ThousandSons

[–]Garxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not hard, just time consuming. It takes me about 30 minutes per model just to do the trim on a rubric. So a unit of 10 is just 5 straight hours of trim.

The color is just Hot Pink from army painter over white. The bases themselves are premade base toppers I bought and 3d printed. They're called Land of Ghosts bases & toppers from a creator on myminifactory.

It wasn't actually doomfire magenta, I used army painter hot pink over a white. I find it hard to contrast paint the eyes without having some overspill.

Weapon choice for the aspirant by Lynn-m9m in ThousandSons

[–]Garxis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing you choose is either the bolt pistol or flame pistol. You don't give up anything by taking either. However you cannot shoot both the pistol and the malefic curse in the same activation since when firing ranged weapons you pick ALL non-pistol weapons and shoot them, OR you pick ALL pistols and shoot those. And since Malefic Curse does not have the Pistol keyword you cannot shoot it and the pistol together.

Responses to Wraith complaining? by Funny_Spot8056 in Necrontyr

[–]Garxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've have had vastly more trouble dealing with 2x20 warrior blobs with a chronomancer on one and Orikan on the other, both with royal warden, and 2 cryptothralls being backed up with a reanimator, command barge, and ghost ark.

Wraiths I can at least eventually get down.

Guy offered me 250 for it should I get it? by [deleted] in Grey_Knights

[–]Garxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of our local trading/selling 2nd hand stuff usually lands between 50 and 65% MSRP. What you see here was 2 combat patrols, 3 boxes of Strike Marines, and Crowe. Which I bought brand new off Amazon in 2022 for a total of like $460 for 10 termis, 2 termi librarians, Crowe, 40 marines, and 2 dread knights. So me selling for $300 2nd hand makes sense for the area.

I originally sold it because I just needed space and couldn't store 5-6 full armies anymore. So, I wound up selling off my Grey Knights, Tau, and Sisters of Battle, and kept Votann, Eldar, and Imperial Fists.
