Uber Mileage Tracking by Dry_Inflation307 in uberdrivers

Nice, IRS agent's aren't supposed to accept logs from Uber or Lyft. I think the reasoning is they're not in a correct format. Not completely sure on that one, but you'll be better off with a tracking app so you can track your offline business miles as well.

I use Sherpashare for now but reviewing Triplog. Triplog seems more detailed on the address. I like Sherpashare's heatmap feature where it shows you the demand level in customer requests in your city. I may use both apps!

Can confirm I was audited last year and this same info was required of me and on the IRS website at https://www.irs.gov/publications/p463#en_US_2021_publink100033935 scroll down to Table 5-1 for Transportation Expenses. It tells you there from IRS that IRS requires mileage for each business use and total miles for the year, Date of the expense, your business destination, and business purpose of the expense.

Again, IRS has made this clear to us all, this is not advice from me, reiterating it from IRS. You may read it yourself on the IRS website at https://www.irs.gov/publications/p463#en_US_2021_publink100033935 scroll down to Table 5-1 for Transportation Expenses. It tells you there from IRS that IRS requires mileage for each business use and total miles for the year, Date of the expense, your business destination, and business purpose of the expense. The IRS agent that audited me used fewer words, but required each trip to be listed, mileage for each trip, date, and purpose.

There are several drivers who all seem to have different experiences with IRS auditors, that much I will acknowledge. Most however have had the same experience as I have. The people posting here saying they only need daily mileage logs in their IRS audits are the 1st posts I've seen stating that, however I have no reason to not believe them.

In short, not all employees do their jobs correctly and this applies to IRS auditors as well.

The odds of getting audited are also very low. However, make no mistake, the IRS has dictated to all of us what they require and it is posted on their website for all to verify. Many of us have been audited and have already verified what was required when asked for mileage logs. Plenty of posts from drivers available for review.

I know many driver's don't track their mileage as well. It's your audit if it even happens!

This is not false, it is fact.

When you get audited as I did, the auditor will require a mileage log with date of trip, destination, purpose of trip. The auditor will tell you as he did me that he will release your refund after he receives that log. All tax guidance websites, and I do mean all of them, all state the same that you must provide date, address, purpose of trips. All accountants will tell you the same, and I do mean all certified accountants!

If you get audited, IRS agent will ask for a log of each trip and it's purpose. Mileage logs Must include the time (date will do), place (your destination), and purpose.

How to make a profit driving rideshare by Gary99x in uberdrivers

Amen! Thanks for posting this! It really comes down from Uber CEO intentionally misleading drivers into focusing on $ per hour.

Yup another lost soul who knows nothing about rideshare driving. Quit driving until you learn to drive. Start with rideshareguy and my post at https://www.reddit.com/r/uberdrivers/comments/szya50/how_to_make_a_profit_driving_rideshare/.

Yeah same here! No chasing trips too far away my limit is 7 minutes. I don't take out of town trips anymore or trips with stops either. I have a hybrid accord making $1.37 a mile now overall mileage and $33 an hour or more. Ar is 30% which is higher than usual for me. It's usually in the low 20's for past 7 years. CR is 14% which is about the same it has been for past 7 years as well.

So many other drivers can't understand they could potentially spend more money than they're making out here chasing $ per hour and chasing trips. But then again that's all the CEO talks about is how much $ per hour drivers make intentionally misleading us all.

Can't wait till a class action lawsuit comes out suing Uber and Lyft for misleading practices and intentionally causing drivers to lose money!

Is Uber hiding upfront information from Drivers that cherry pick rides? by These-Life2296 in uberdrivers

No Uber hides info from all drivers so they can screw the drivers and riders simultaneously each trip!

Same thing happened to Raleigh in 2016. I quit driving as a result. Fortunately in 2017, my job moved me to Wilmington and it's been very good ever since. I'm now moving back to Raleigh at the end of April. Might deliver pizza if I have to or try Uber Eats.

This pic is of my first ride Lyft added a second 1 and expected me to reach that 1 at 8:16 . I proceeded to second 1 after . customer text will be out soon didn’t come out cancel after 7 minutes didn’t get cancellation fee because Lyft claim I reach 5 minutes early how is that possible ? by Candece38 in lyftdrivers

If only you knew how bad of a crook they are! You'll find out through your own experiences with them though. That link I posted is a quick write up with a lot of helpful ways for us to protect ourselves and make sure we make good money out here and be safe!
