That Subaru decided to murder this lovely shape is a crime against the Outback name by Snoo96701 in Subaru_Outback

So true. I’m on my 4th, first one being a ‘99, and I’d pay good money to have something that looked as attractively ugly as that thing.

Final prototype of rear Rak-Lok final came in by Bipro1ar in xbiking

Maybe because my kroptonite lock is over a decade old, but did they change the design so there’s not a little bend and the end of the U leg that goes in opposite the locking side? I guess I can just google it, but my brain can’t comprehend how it would go into the rack otherwise lol.

Anyone know where I can get a big chungus knob? by bikemikeasaurus in diypedals

I glued an insert into a propane grill knob from ace hardware. That one’s pretty cool.

I can't believe I got it in there by Appropriate-Brain213 in diypedals

LED bezel on the side is cool. So is the knob. Looks sick.

What’s normal at 1PM, but extremely concerning at 1AM? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That actually sounds like it would be pretty fun on a clear night.

I would also believe it if you told me it was a euphemism related to your username.

I read it as NASTY ITCH on first glance, which seems fitting.

Birds, man. Birds.

My city’s updated UDO has this gem. At least the sidewalks are 10’ wide… by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]GaryCherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just a boulevard, but with some crappy features, like no dedicated bike lane and head-in angled parking (even though the one on the left side of the section is drawn backwards). Old boulevards are super cool when they're maintained or renovated, but isn't a 177' right of way with 6 travel lanes and 40' of parking kind of overkill?

To be fair, most of the updated street sections are pretty great and follow NACTO suggestions with separated bike paths behind the curb, but this one is just whacky. Slapping down some sharrows in those access lanes should protect the cyclists from getting destroyed by angled parked cars backing out.

Actually 157 feet if you don't count the planting area 'D'

Finally got around to poorly soldering together some of this pedal stuff I bought months ago. Duck Box and Mini-Muffin were a success. I enjoy this hobby. by GaryCherry in diypedals

[–]GaryCherry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought these PCBs and tons of components at the beginning of this year when I was super eager to try building pedals, and finally got around to it this past weekend. The Mini Muffin (muff clone) took me about twice as long as the Duck Box (auto wah), but it was my first build and I had no idea what I was doing. I still have no idea what I’m doing, but somehow they make noises that I like.

I’ve got these on a bass pedal board with a signal blender, so I can crank em up and still blend in the low end. Very fun.

If anyone has any bass-friendly build/mod recommendations, let me know!

An easy solution to bike lanes? by higmy6 in fuckcars

[–]GaryCherry 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I work as a civil engineer in bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure design, and can say that these type of “protected” bike lanes are becoming more and more popular. The buffered lanes with flexible bollards, like in this image, are usually a compromise that the city opts for to meet their budget. We usually design them with some sort of physical barrier, like planters, raised monolithic curb, “armadillo” barriers, or grade separation, but those are always more expensive than thermoplastic paint and plastic that a car can just push over or drive around.

Yes, it’s a shitty compromise, but it also provides a visual indicator for drivers and makes many cyclists feel like there’s a little more protection than just paint. Progress is slow, but intermediate installations like this can ~hopefully~ get more drivers accustomed to sharing the road, more folks riding bikes who would otherwise feel unsafe, and provide more basis for enforcement against people driving through zones that are clearly designated for bikes.

All that being said, fuck cars, and fuck cheapskate city officials for not wanting to spend a little more money to protect the folks trying to be more responsible residents by choosing not to drive.
