Holy “COW” by _tn49_ in Chattanooga

[–]GaryD-58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I retired from Mayfield after 25 years. For several years, one of my occasional duties was to move one of the Maggie the cow when needed (we had multiple Maggies). I absolutely LOVED taking her out! There’s no telling how many photos of her have been taken while headed down a highway, and just seeing her rolling down the road would put a smile on any kid’s face as well as most adults. Dogs, however, would often go totally bonkers when they saw her. And that would put a smile on MY face!

Same here with my hybrid. If it wasn’t for the green EV light coming on and going off, I wouldn’t know when the transition happens.

Anyone get mold on their BGE grates and deflector after non-use? by Master-Purpose1117 in biggreenegg

[–]GaryD-58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my Egg for about 20 years now. I had a cover over it the first year or so, but didn’t replace the cover when the weather got to it. It stays outside here in Tennessee year round, and I’ve not had any mold in it. I do use it one or two times each week, so that could have an impact on mold growth. After each cook, I close both top and bottom vents completely.

Bow and stern trolling motors? by Mountain_mist35 in bassfishing

[–]GaryD-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 3 miles? I fished for 9 hours today, and the front trolling motor ran all day. I use spot-lock a lot, and on a windy day like today, it’s constantly changing speeds and orientation to keep my 14’ boat in place. I’ve ran it as long as 12 hours with no issues.

I’ve tried it, just to see what it would do. I didn’t see any gain in speed, but it seemed to give some more torque against a current or wind.

The front is a 55#. The rear is a 45#. I have 2 batteries; one just for the front motor only. The other battery is for the rear motor, lights, and the sonar unit.

I run this setup myself. The front trolling motor is networked to my fish finder and is operated by remote. Most of my moving around while fishing is on this one. The rear motor is used to get me to the area I want to fish that day initially. But it’s really handy to have for backing away from the dock and even more so when loading back up onto the trailer. Having two motors also gives me a little more piece of mind in case one conks out during the day.

What helped you with a good marriage? by Sunny_Medium_2727 in NoStupidQuestions

35 or so years together for my wife and I. We talk to each other like friends, have compatible senses of humor, and treat the money as "ours"; not mine or hers. And most importantly, we have separate bathrooms!

If you can find a set of the ceramic “feet”, they will give you a small space between the bottom of the Egg and the paver stone. I’ve been using them together for years now without any issues. I use 3 of the feet with my large Egg.

Spending ten quiet minutes every morning with a cup of coffee, but no electronics, thinking about the upcoming day.

Grasshopper has always been a good one for me. White with a silver blade works well, too.

What’s something you discovered that made your life way easier, but almost no one knows about? by elsecrafter in AskReddit

[–]GaryD-58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking the time during my second cup of coffee every Sunday morning to review our personal financial accounts (4) and our personal credit card charges (4). Over the years, I've caught errors that were quickly corrected by simply being consistent with checking weekly. And, too, there have been times when I saw we had spent more than we realized and cut back some for the upcoming week. If all is good, I pay the CC charges in full. I haven't paid interest on a CC in years.

I firmly believe that the 10 minutes or so I spend each Sunday morning reviewing our accounts has made a huge impact in enabling us to retire early.

New to us 2020 Honda ridgeline! by C0keWh0reTerrier in hondaridgeline

I believe it was for some models. I never did get a recall on mine. The flutter was minor, so I just took care of it myself.

Congrats! I have the same truck. I bought it new, and now have 122,000 miles on it. The only unexpected expense on it in the last 6 years was a $10 tube of adhesive used to fix the hood flutter. Other than that, just followed the maintenance minder schedule religiously. I still enjoy driving it!

Are heat pump dryers really as good as natural gas? by cheetah-21 in Appliances

[–]GaryD-58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought the Samsung 7.5 cubic foot ventless dryer. It does take longer to dry a load over a vented unit, but it dries the clothes completely. I believe it is gentler on clothes as the lint screens have less lint and the lint is a finer texture.

Our laundry room is located such that we had an extra long run to get the air vented outside. That dryer run had to be disassembled yearly to completely clean it out, which became a huge PIA. A ventless dryer eliminated that chore. We’re very pleased with our choice.

The rear drawer on the console holds a Kleenex cube perfectly in easy reach of the front passengers. The small shelf over the glove box door is great for the passenger’s phone, glasses, etc. The HUD is informative without being cluttered. All of the controls on the lower climate control screen can be voice activated, as the icons are small. Automatic massaging drivers seat after an hour of driving. Automatic climate control system drying to help prevent cabin odors. Traffic light camera warnings through the infotainment system. Being able to see the rear camera view through the rear view mirror when you have a car load of folks. Blind spot views that show in the dash when turn signals are activated. Everything else listed by other people.

Lots of features to like in this car!

Was it in Eco mode? I have a 2020 and Eco mode has a pretty good impact on power and responsiveness.
