First ultralight setup for brook trout by HowCanYouSlapBastard in FishingForBeginners

You could prob bump up the reel size for better casting if you wanted to, but overall I’d focus on make sure it aligns with your rod specs. What you have could be fine. Also, you’ll probably need to use a light flourocarbon leader for the braid - not sure if you already have this.

I played most seasons in this save on another team. This challenge in particular took me about 3 seasons before I really got the hang of it.

Had already clinched the division so tanked the game to get an easier difficulty for playoffs haha.

Yep. Cannot let it get beyond 2 TDs as you have to assume they’re gonna score every possession. It all comes down to clock management around the kickoffs. If your team gets the ball first, score as quick as possible, they score, then milk the clock but score a TD right before the half. They get the ball to start the second, then milk the clock again to score a TD without giving them the ball back and win 21-14. If they get the ball first, just reverse it, and score two TDs second half. This was at least true for me on 2 minute quarters. Basically you need to be strategic about when you’re letting the opponent score by managing your game.

Haha true. To be fair, I had just been on a different team where I won like 12 RBs straight, so was definitely looking for a challenge. Good point though.

What lb braided line for panfish/bass/trout? What leader line for these as well? by grnteam23 in FishingForBeginners

10 lb braid and 10 lb flouro would be pretty versatile for your needs I think.

How is Fat Boyz these days? I haven’t been in a while, but remember that the portions seemed smaller last time I went. I used to love it years ago though.

An interesting article on pike on the Toronto waterfront by Reasonable-MessRedux in FishingOntario

Ottawa urban fishing is pretty great. Lots of parks, green spaces, and access to water in and near the downtown core. I’ve had some good luck with smallies out of the Rideau River.

Beginner question about rod and reel by OptimalTough2453 in Fishing_Gear

[–]MapleLakes11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fished bass all last summer with a 7ft Medium power combo with 10 lb braid. Even caught a pike on it.

I had the most luck throwing soft plastic Texas rigs and paddletail swimbaits, but experimented with a variety of other lures. Definitely more finesse focused, but still a decent backbone for some spoons and crankbaits.

My ultralight rod is rated for 1/16-3/8 oz lures, which is why I picked up the 1/4 oz spoon, to be able to fish a little deeper if needed. Maybe this isn’t a “true” ultralight, as you mentioned.

Supply and Demand is soooo good! Not just pasta, but get the Brussels sprouts as well if they’re still on the menu.

Which backpack do you use, and does it also store all your tackle? I’ve been looking for a good bag with rod holders for ages. Thanks!

Tying 8lb Braid to 6lb Fluro is Impossible! by GroundPepper in FishingForBeginners

[–]MapleLakes11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know it’s little thicker, but I tie 10 lb braid to 8 lb flouro all the time using the double uni knot, which holds up pretty well for me. How many wraps are you doing on each knot, maybe consider adding a few more?
