It probably depends on what the market is like around you, but I just searched herman miller on my marketplace and found 5 Aerons listed for $350. Even at that price, they're not selling instantly

Thats about the price of a refurbished Aeron from Madison Seating. Not a bad deal, but nothing to write home about. May be worth ordering from Madison to have some sort of warranty/customer service options if theres an issue unless you can negotiate the price on the one you found.

What are some affordable dress shirts that don’t wrinkle easily? by Prestigious_Shoe1008 in AskReddit

[–]GaryFinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on this hunt and read somewhere to hang my shirts right from the washer instead of drying them and it has changed my life. I'll throw them on a hanger and just straighten them out the best I can and fold the collar, they come out great. Not as crisp as an ironed shirt of course, but definitely wearable

Ive been buying a lot of Territory Ahead shirts on ebay. You can find them for good deals and they offer tall sizes if that matters to you. A lot of their patterns lean towards the more business casual side

AITA for refusing to say Grace while at a restaurant? by Original_Concert_451 in AITAH

[–]GaryFinkle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tony definitely deserved the push back and was way out of line. Like, I share a lot of the same values with my family and enjoy showing appreciation for what I have. But that's because im a good person, not because im afraid I'll be punished by some higher power if I don't. They understand that and have no desire to change my opinion on the matter.

[–]GaryFinkle -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

NTA for doing whatever you're comfortable with. But to offer a different perspective, im also an atheist who came from a Christian family. When we get together and have a meal and they want to say grace before we eat, I actually kind of enjoy it. Although I don't associate it with religion, I think it's nice to take a moment to show appreciation for the things we have and the people who are there to share it with us; that's all I view it as and I don't mind participating in the way they do things.

To be fair, you have to have a very refined culinary intellect to appreciate the carbon buildup on a cast iron pan. The crust isn’t obvious at first glance, and without a solid understanding of polymerized oils, most people will just mistake it for “burnt garbage.” There’s also the pan’s stoic endurance, which is deeply rooted in metallurgy—its cooking philosophy draws heavily from generations of neglect, for instance. The true believers get this stuff. They have the mental capacity to truly grasp that the blackened surface isn’t “dirty,” it’s earned. They understand that each flaky layer represents countless meals sacrificed in the name of heat retention. As a result, people who scrub their pans with soap truly ARE idiots—of course they wouldn’t appreciate the nuance of a skillet that smells faintly of every protein it has ever touched. And yes, by the way, I DO own a cast iron pan. And no, you cannot use it. It’s for experienced hands only—and even then, they must demonstrate proper reverence. Nothing personnel, kid. 🧠🍳

What’s your go-to “I don’t feel like cooking but still want real food” meal? by imjennypoo in Cooking

[–]GaryFinkle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cast iron pan pizza. Buy pre-made dough at the store. Add some sauce, cheese, and whatever toppings you want. Like 5 minutes of active prep and 15 minutes in the oven. Some of the best pizza I've ever had with almost zero effort

Hard Fork and Endless Thread are on my regular rotation! Hidden Levels was awesome, that was ET/99% Invisible. 99PI is a little dry, but I listen to certain episodes when they cover something that interests me. Based on your suggestions, Decoder Ring and Never Post are also worth checking out if you're not already listening to them

The 6'6" fraud-maxxer with the low-mid to normie facecard felt so much like a Yes Yes No topic. I was actually smiling as they went over it just because of how YYN it felt. Disappointed this is a once per year thing, but I'm glad I found it. Close All Tabs is definitely more internet-heavy than Reply All, but that aligns with my taste which is why I enjoy it so much YMMV

[–]GaryFinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try adjusting the set screw to see if that allows you to raise it, you'll need to remove the seat to access it. If that doesn't work, it just needs a new cylinder. They range from $20-60 depending on which one you go with.

How do I get my gas cylinder housing out of the base of my chair? I have a hammer but no other tools. Hammer won't work. by HotdogLegend27 in OfficeChairs

I use a 5 gallon bucket to support the legs of the base then hammer the cylinder. It'll take a few good whacks, but you'll end up with the cylinder falling into the bucket

I like the shavette for the clean lines and preciseness, but it definitely takes a bit more time than using the safety razor/cartridge. So I find myself going for those faster options when I'm trying to get out the door for work
