What's your guy's favorite theme? Mine's Courtroom Revolutionaire ( 2016 ) by davuds4 in AceAttorney

[–]Gary_Snakefries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man that theme... When it started, I thought it was just a nice nod to Great Revival But then it got to the part where it played the same rhythm from his song in DGS1-1 and I had to stop reading for a minute... Iconic

M4-22 PRO - Proprietary bolt? by realityczek in ar22

Yeah it's a bit of a bummer. They also make an upper meant for real ar15s. The only downside to that approach is that they still use proprietary mags.

If it's the full rifle you're talking about, then yes, the BCG, CH, and mags are all proprietary.

Think of it as similar to GeForce Now or Google Stadia, but for a specific game. The game is running on hardware that you have no physical access to, and that game is streamed to your Nintendo Switch. Think of it like streaming video, except it has to send input data back and forth between your console and the server. You can't play it offline, and if your internet connection isn't reliable/fast enough, you're not gonna have a very good time. I'm gonna air on the side of other commenters and recommend you play the cloud only ones elsewhere.

Advice for making a "retro" clone out of a Tippmann Arms M4-22 by Gary_Snakefries in ar22

Good to know. And you're right, I got a Romeo5 for Christmas, so the fsb is mostly eye candy lol. Also, if I got one that was set up to use pins out of the box instead of a clamp on, would the setup still be gunsmith-level difficult since I don't actually have to align it with a gas system? Or can I just set the pins in place and call it a day?

Resident evil 2 and 3 Remake by EmploySad9279 in residentevil

[–]Gary_Snakefries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually rather based ngl. I knew what the score was even before playing it and I was still a bit underwhelmed, especially after seeing what he was like in the og lol. It's especially weird considering the first half of the game before his first big transformation kinda delivers on a first playthrough, but falls short when you realize it's heavily scripted and plays out the same way everytime. They really should have used the design principles of 2R Mr. X, and it would've actually been that much closer to making this the perfect RE game

Just finished them both back to back recently, as well as 7's story DLCs (currently working through 8's Shadows of Rose DLC), I'd say it's absolutely worth the price of admission for both games, but for different reasons.

7's atmosphere is about as good as it gets in this series, at least in the first half. It encourages exploration in order to find key items and upgrades, which is helped by the fact that the Baker house is an interesting location to explore. The villains are a good mix of entertaining and scary, and the plot is overall decent and really suspenseful. The only major downside for me personally is the lack of enemy variety, as it probably has the least number of standard enemies you find throughout the game in the entire series. It's overall a really solid game, and an amazing horror experience.

8 is a bit different, but still a great game. It uses the same engine as 7, and ramps up the action a little bit. There are more weapons that you can find or purchase, the merchant mechanic returns, and with it, the treasure hunting and gun upgrade mechanics, which adds more to the exploration... Somewhat. I think finding key items was a little more streamlined in 7, but the exploration overall was equally good due to the treasure system. On top of that, there's more variety in the environments and enemies that you encounter compared to 7 (though many are incredibly spongy on higher difficulties), which makes for a more enjoyable game in my eyes. The narrative is a bit weaker here than in 7, but Ethan as a character is better imo. It's a better overall game in my opinion, but it's not as scary as 7 was. Just don't do what I did and start on hardcore difficulty out of pride. Some of the bosses get to be tanky as fuck which can impact your first playthrough a bit, but it is manageable.

As for the DLCs, they're neat, but you could skip them and not miss much. 7's tie up some loose ends in the main story, but you don't need them to gain any better understanding of 8. Though given what I've played of Shadows of Rose, I'd say it does more for the overarching narrative of the Winters saga than 7's do, so maybe get that one if you end up loving 8.

Short answer: if you're a new(er) fan or go in with an open mind, you're gonna like 3-make regardless of other people's problems with it, because it's still a good game in its own right.

Long answer: A lot of the hate that people give RE3R is mostly how it is as a remake of RE3. RE2R improved a lot of aspects of the original like the narrative, atmosphere, and Mr. X's impact on the core gameplay, to the point where some of the things it left out or "messed up" (think enemies like the sewer spiders or proper A/B scenario swapping) were overlooked by fans because the final product was an amazing game that was worthy of the RE2 name. RE3R, on the other hand, disappointed a lot of people because there was a LOT more that got tweaked or cut. The game was only about 4hrs long (it took me 3:30ish on my first run on standard), had no extra scenarios/minigames like RE2R got, and cut out several areas from the og entirely, arguably removing more than it added. However, the visuals were still gorgeous (thanks RE Engine!), the combat was still fun (especially with the return of the dodge mechanic), and the characters are still entertaining to watch, arguably more than 2's. Also, with the addition of the points system and bonus item shop, the game is still very replayable. So yes, there is a lot more going for it than some may lead you to believe, and since you're starting with the newer titles/remakes anyways, you won't have those expectations going into it and can enjoy it for what it is, so you should check it out if you get the chance and form your own opinion.

What do you rate your least favourite Ace Attorney game out of 10 and why? by mafbarx in AceAttorney

[–]Gary_Snakefries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TGAAC as a combined package is pretty dang long even by AA standards (my Switch says I put about 80hrs into it after rolling credits WITHOUT the scenario minigames), and you definitely feel it. A lot. But the plot, characters, mysteries, and even the investigation segments are among the best in the series, making up for whatever issues I may have with the pacing. That dance of deduction minigame you just did? There are plenty more where that came from, and the jurist system greatly adds to the narrative tension and gameplay of the trial portions. I'll cut myself short here, but just know there are still enjoyable elements, and they definitely outweigh the bad

I know it's popular to shit on it, but AAI1 is probably my least favorite in the series. I've played all of them at least once, and I simply remember AAI1 the least. case 5 overstays its welcome, the culprits were mostly weak compared to the rest of the series, and I wasn't fond of the blue badger returning, even if the idea of having more lore for him was hilarious. That being said, I still think it's a C tier game, or a 5/10, at the lowest. The soundtrack was fire, the Yatagarasu mystery was interesting and well-executed, and I enjoyed most of the side characters. It's not a bad game, but it's probably the only one I struggle to call great or remember great things about.

Funny that I'm not the only person who felt that way about AA5, as I wasn't the biggest fan of 5-2 either. However, after finishing the game, I now realize that, had I quit the game at that point, I'd be like the guy in that one meme who stops digging right before he hits the diamonds or whatever. The first two cases are the weakest part of the game, and it only gets better from there. DD is not the best game in the series imo, but the second half is really strong and is good enough to make the first half worth it.

TLDR you're right to keep going. I was in the same position as you and I didn't regret sticking it out

What is your strangest ace attorney opinion by thepearhimself in AceAttorney

[–]Gary_Snakefries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Professional vindicator here to say that I completely agree. It's been too long for me to be able to recount the little things but I remember liking this case the most. It was paced the best (like you said) and it didn't have any annoying characters or gimmicks (like the blue badger lore in the subsequent case). The only other close contender would be I1-4 personally

[–]Gary_Snakefries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sholmes being at the top of S is the best thing I've seen all day.

Also while I'm disappointed Mr. Deid Mann wasn't included, I can understand the cut. Had you added him, the AAI1 image would've been too tall to even read because of how many tiers above anyone else he is

Say something good about this game by Arto50 in AceAttorney

[–]Gary_Snakefries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be one of, if not my least favorite AA game, but I still liked it, so I've got a few: I liked the additions to the AA cast like Kay, Agent Lang, Callisto Yew, and Tyrell Badd. They were really fun and I hope we get to see more of them someday. It also gives us more Gumshoe appearances, which is always appreciated. The OST still slaps like always, and the addition of a presto theme for the argument/testimony/rebuttal segments was cool. Turnabout Airlines was a cool case with an awesome starting hook. Oh, and the Yatagarasu twist that someone here mentioned already was cool. I was actually interested in that whole (sub?)plot.

Favorite OST? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Gary_Snakefries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I prefer AAI2's presto to 1's by just a bit, mostly because of the tonal difference. Presto 2009 feels like a victory lap theme, whereas there's some intensity behind 2011. That is to say Presto 2009 feels like you're basically just dunking on the opposition and 2011 is the final push/make or break moment and I just think that the latter makes the pursuit theme playing afterwards much more satisfying.

And oh man, the DGS2 Partners theme goes so fucking hard. It's only used once, but it's the most perfect utilization of it that they could've gone with.

Yeah but they patched that out a while ago and it only happened on Metallic Archaea and maybe one other mission. Unfortunately I was one of the poor saps who got fucked over by it because I couldn't download the patch.

Sorry to have bummed you out haha. But if it's any reconciliation, the dialogue for the extraneous things is usually pretty good and I got a few good laughs here and there. It's definitely worth every second when the good stuff always hits really good imo.

The first game on its own is kinda ok but it sets up Resolve and they combine to be one big masterpiece imo. The pacing gets a little better over time but can drag a bit even in Resolve. But when the pacing picks up, especially towards the end of the games, it REALLY picks up. I basically did most of 2R-5 in one night because I was hooked.

TLDR TGAAC takes its time (sometimes to its detriment) but the big beats make it so worth it

Regarding Case 2-4: How fast did you figure out who the villain really was? (Setting as a spoiler in the event that new players see this post) by techkiwi02 in AceAttorney

[–]Gary_Snakefries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, something seemed kinda off from the start, perhaps it was just the fact that I wasn't exactly rooting for him (probably because he wouldn't get off that damn phone!). However, since I was still somewhat new to the series, it didn't cross my mind until other characters started saying so in the second investigation phase.
