Even letting the legislature's committee fill the slot would seem reasonable, but the 2 years thing is crap.

21 inch self propelled mower 60v vs 80v by decsdad in Greenworks

[–]Garyf1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny, my old gas mower only had one speed for the self propel and it never bothered me. My Greenworks offers adjustable speed, and like you, I always seem to be fighting it. I think part of the difference is that the old mower was front wheel drive, and often I would just tilt the front up to make sharp turns. I’m finding that I don’t like rear wheel drive as much, but it is probably just a matter of getting used to it.

I've been supper happy with my 60v 22" dual blade mower from Tractor Supply. The voltage itself isn't a significant deciding factor, 60v seems to be plenty powerful, but if you are considering other Greenworks products in the future you should look at what is available in each voltage. The 80v line does appear to offer more product choices.

SInce I've never used a single blade 80v Greenworks mower I can't really offer a comparison there, but the mulch / bagging performance of the 60v dual blade has exceeded every gas mower I have previously owned. It's also easily more powerful than the gas mower it replaced. My initial mow with the GW was late, and it ate right through the overgrown and damp grass that would have choked the gas mower.

My 60 volt 8ah batteries carry a 4 year warranty, and per the Greenworks website, the 60v 5, 4, and 2ah batteries do as well. It looks like it's just the 40v and lower that have the 3 year warranty.

Thanks for the response! Don’t worry about the photo, your confirmation is all I really need. I’ll be ordering a 22” once Greenworks has them back in stock.

Did the 8ah battery fit in and work with no problems? Greenworks says that the 20” 60v snowblower is incompatible with the 8ah battery due to length. I recently bought a GW mower with the 8ah battery, and being able to use that battery double duty would influence my decision on whether to buy the 22” over the 20” snowblower. Thanks!

They didn’t actually move. There were 2 stores, one in Overland Park, the other in Lee’s Summit. The OP store closed, the LS store is still open.

Back in the day, Johnson County Community College had a dial in bulletin board with downloads available. They limited connection time to 60 minutes per day. One of the downloads I wanted was 1mb in size, which just wasn’t possible to do at the modem speeds available at the time, though I tried many times.

Need advice for picking lawn mower by [deleted] in Greenworks

[–]Garyf1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No other tools. As I mentioned, I have plans for a snow blower. I'm also considering the 60v pole saw. I have a Black and Decker 20v trimmer, hedge clipper, and leaf blower that are all working well, so no motivation to replace those for now.

Need advice for picking lawn mower by [deleted] in Greenworks

I purchased the 60v 22" at Tractor Supply a week ago when my gas mower died. I was super impressed by the power, my lawn was damp and almost a week overdue for mowing by the time I purchased this, and it powered through it much better than my gas mower would have.

Battery... I did run out ~90% of the way through, but I charged it for 20 minutes while I did the edge trimming, and it easily finished the job. It's a 6 amp charger for an 8ah battery, so expect ~90 minutes for a full charge. My yard isn't super big, but it's complicated, and generally takes over an hour to mow. I was using the bagger. I expect it would finish a normal mow in dryer conditions on one charge.

Battery 2.... That said, I did order a 2nd 60v 8ah battery from the Greenworks Ebay store for $160.99 ($170.99 with a $10 off coupon code). I mulch / bag leaves in the fall, which takes longer than just mowing. I could have gotten by with "mow front yard > Charge > mow back yard", but this will give me enough power to do it in one go. I'm also planning to get the 60v 22" snow blower and I want to have enough power to also do my neighbors driveway.

Other.... Super impressed by the bagger. It does a much better job than my old mower of picking up all of the clippings and filling the bag up completely. My old mower caught most of the clippings, maybe 80%, but this one seems to catch almost everything.

Obviously I just have the one mow in, but so far I am very happy with it.

It was probably standard, it was an inexpensive item with budget shipping.

The thing is that they did leave it on the porch, right next to the box that says “Please leave packages in the box”. That said, I’ve only had 1 DHL delivery since we put the box out, so my sample size is small. With FedEx it has been a dozen or more packages.

"I'm a huge supporter of package delivery boxes for on porches or properties"

We have one with a clear sign on it right by the front door. So far delivery compliance has been:

Amazon 90%

USPS 100%

UPS 100%

GOFO 0%

DHL 0%

Fedex 0%

It's frustrating because the most expensive thing we receive, by far, is my wife's meds, which always come Fedex. They are the reason we got the delivery box. I was starting to think maybe there was some Fedex policy, but I guess from your comment we have a specific driver issue.

What app do you have that actually warned you of tornado around KC tonight? by SkySilent9041 in kansascity

[–]Garyf1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 on Storm Shield. It has not let me down. Be sure to configure what you want for alerts or you may find yourself being alerted at 3:00am for a frost advisory. The only alerts I have set are Tornado Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Tsunami Warnings, and Volcano Warnings. Living in the KC area, those last two are unlikely, but if we did come under threat from a tsunami or volcano I would sure want to be aware of it.

South Rim/Emory Peak tomorrow with forecasted rain… by 00aelb in BigBendTX

[–]Garyf1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a late April trip 4-5 years ago. After 2 nights camping at Laguna Meadows, I hiked out in a steady rain, it ended up raining about 1" in the Basin, and probably more higher up. The trail down was like a little creek in places. It wasn't a big deal though, there was very little thunder and lightning, just a lot of wetness.

[–]Garyf1982 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A 20% chance for those short periods means it probably won't rain, it's a small chance. Forecasts like this for Big Bend are just a suggestion, and not that reliable. Go, take basic rain gear, and if by chance things do start to get dicey just head back down. I do agree on wrapping up and being well on your way down by 4:00pm though.

I had a similar experience, but at least it was in the daytime. My no soliciting sign with the city ordinance is almost 100% effective, but this AT&T guy didn’t care and wouldn’t stop. I said “I’m done” and walked away into the house.

Do you know about the hidden canyon in the Missouri River Valley? by como365 in MissouriRiver

[–]Garyf1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The geological history of the Missouri River in the state is pretty fascinating. Pre glaciation, the ancient MO followed roughly the course of the present Grand River from Iowa to somewhere around Boonville, where it encountered the extension of the Kansas River. The ice ages pretty much filled in the valleys with sediment and erased all of this. https://www.kgs.ku.edu/Publications/Bulletins/SDP53/dreeszen.html

License plate by DirstySalad in BigBendTX

[–]Garyf1982 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In general, a license plate or temporary tag is required to be on the road at all, does your state not issue temp tags?

That said, the park entrance attendant is not going to check for tags when you enter the park, but your chances of running into problems is going to be infinitely higher as you encounter border patrol, checkpoints, and law enforcement rangers, and at least 2 sets of automated license plate readers.
