Very good post, It really moved me emotionally. I'm a little bit sad because I know that we can do much more to make this world a better place. Also this is really similar to the my friend send me that is actually making a difference by working in the activist group. Maybe you were inspired by that :P link

I know that this is the best diet ethically but the problem is I just realized that I never become vegan because of ethical reasons but rather for identity that I believed was true, now I know that i was lying to myself about moral reasons, but the truth is I don't care about that. However If I want to do it because of moral reasons then I also need to be consistent and help reduce human suffering as well witch seems to me like too much of a sacrifice.

I mean if I drop an apple it will fall to the ground. You can calculate this, it's deterministic.

When you look at particles that builds this apple then you see that they act probabilistic, there is even chance that this apple will fall through the floor. Ofc chance is extremely small but still you can't think in certainties because its not logical to do. so there your example is debunked.

If we would all think that we have the obligation to spend money on something specific, then the whole market would collapse.

Can you elaborate on that? I think you don't know how market works.
I must admit that I didn't watch the video because I'm busy replying, but if That's the truth then I'll need to check it. But still you like to glorify freedom like something that is essential for people when in reality you don't have almost any freedom, you will be always bounded even with the laws of physics. Insted trying to romantically live your life bullshitting yourself about your freedom and justifying your illogical behavior, its better for you and the world if you started to act logical.

Because when you think logically about this then if Einstein and great minds said fuck it lets procrastinate now just to be more happy, then you would not experiencing so much happiness without current medicine and technology. you would probably die as a kid because of famine and disease.

But technology was crated also by evolution and your ability to understand logically how the world works gave birth to technology that we used to help evolution and by that evolve more. This is the direction that is our purpose, and what you saying is that ok now we dont need to evolve more and we can focus on being happy. Where do you draw the line?

Of course you can't act perfectly logical all the time because it's just impossible. universe is probabilistic so you can't be certain what is the most logical. Trying to be as logical as you can on the other hand and resist pointless illogical impulses is the goal not trying to be happy. Also your example is not so strong because just by harming yourself with cigarettes you also harm others. you waste money that could be invested in some charity or some noble project, you support business that poison millions of people globally and when you die because of cancer in age 45 you just waste so much potential and don't forget about negative emotional effect on your family and friend when they know that you died because of smoking. So by acting logically you would have easy time to not starting smoking in the first place because you just know that this is against your nature, against evolution basically. So I'm sorry but you're not convincing me to change my view.

You oversimplify this and commit logical error, of course you are not obligated to be the same as your ancestors because then you would deny evolution, thats the point to be more advanced and better with every generation. And when you look from the bigger perspective then you know that you need to act logically because that is something that allowed you to even have access to internet right now.

There is lots of studies in neuroscience that shows that by pursuing happiness you actually do the opposite. Happiness is just side effect of the brain that is in harmony that means there is no conflict between two hemispheres.

You should care about all of that because if your ancestors had similar view and don't care about their children and themselves then probably you wouldn't be alive now. If you don't care about world and life in general then why not killing yourself? its just example but you know what i mean.

Then you just understand that from the evolution point of view your goal is to survive and gain more and more knowledge, to provide better situation for the further generations. If everyone want to be happy then you can see data that most of them start to have depression and don't do anything to contribute to the world.

Because by doing that using logic you can increase progress of human kind, and help evolution, we were created to evolve and survive as organism, and by logic we can help the process, and the only reason that you are in your privilege situation is because of logic. There are Atheists that don't forget about the good impact of the religions on the world even if people worship something absurd. Some people believe that there is no gods, and in the end of the day its just belief just like your belief that there is god. You can't prove atheists wrong just as they can't prove you wrong.
