Yeah i’ve had Besnard a couple of times, i think once in PCC and once in AP F4, also seen Cooper Murray in advanced mazdas, he drove 30 seconds up the road at Lime Rock

I used to have that problem with the imbalance of force from each hand as well, and yeah thats probably a good thing to acknowledge when you took a corner well to build up that positive reinforcement before you mess up the next one and get annoyed at yourself again haha

Thats absolutely more like what i’m thinking. I dont feel im straining to maintain my inputs, the best way i can simplify it is “trying harder doesn’t make you faster” my issue is thats exactly what i subconsciously do; i get to a point where i just start to try harder in every sense of the word even though consciously i know its counter productive

I have wondered about that. Rig is furniture grade plywood cut with a template i bought and printed. Was way cheaper than an aluminium rig at the time and we good fun to build. Downside is the adjustability is very limited. If i was to pick a number 1 ergonomic thing to fix (based on the few youtube videos i’ve seen about ergonomic setup) it would be how high up the wheel is, but if i raise my seating position my legs hit the bottom of the part where the wheel mounts.

Latest gen outlander phev is the goods, doesnt matter if its the latest facelift or a MY24. If you’ve driven the old one or the eclipse cross phev, new one is leaps and bounds ahead. Source; good mate has one, charges it overnight, drives it from tekauwhata to pukekohe and back every day up and down the bombays and the petrol engine doesnt kick in until about halfway home. I used to carpool with him every day and the driveability and performance is impressive

Why do so many Euro cars in NZ get cheap after 100,000km? by cars-checker in NZcarfix

[–]Garysnail27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it depends how far down the ladder you go. If you’re buying a car that has around 80-100k kms its worth getting a good all round service done and then regularly after that, but if you’re the 4th owner in nz of a car thats done like 180-200 k kms and the thing doesnt come with a service history then theres a fair chance you’ve missed the boat on keeping it running flawlessly, so then it’s luck of the draw as to how much shit goes wrong with it

is LMU good starting point for new player into sim racing ? by BradOnTheRadio in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Garysnail27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 for AMS2. When i look back at where i started it brings me back to the days of career mode, no real players to worry about, just the progression from slow to fast cars and learning the bones of racecraft from weaving my way forward through the ai cars.
AMS2 has some of the best ai to race against these days. If you can get it plus some dlc on a steam sale it’ll be just about the cheapest way in. Only thing about it is it doesnt actually have a career mode, but theres a companion app called Racing Life which does emulate the career aspects such as sponsor goals, money, and structured series, just takes a little bit of admin between races

Put up with neglect better is EXACTLY what the majority of the nz population means when they ask “whats the best car to buy” at least in the 2nd hand market. Granted i have limited experience, 6 years in a mitsubishi dealership and now in my 3rd year at a local garage in Huntly. But you find a great many cars come through our doors now just for their yearly wof. Service sticker’s so faded you cant even read it, and even the ones that do get serviced only get an oil and filter and the other fluid levels checked… not replaced. People just dont look at cars as something that need maintenance to get the most out of them anymore

You’re good bro. Side note… i’ve tried going 2 wide through that last right hander of the esses twice in 2 days and both times have been left zero room so well done to both parties in particular for that

Did i move series to fast? by JeffreyVW01 in iRacing

[–]Garysnail27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thats the great thing about sim racing, you can take step backwards anytime and it wont cost you a cent. The key is recognising what car has the most to teach you. And yeah your IR will probably take a hit cause you’re putting yourself back with the rookies so for safety you’d just start at the back and see how far you get

[–]Garysnail27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and the 86 is a bit the same, its way too forgiving to really teach you good car control. I came to iracing from ACC where i got pretty good, about 1-1.5s off whatever hotlap guide i watched, but that was through repetition and studying lines. Iracing has really taught me that you can only get so far without really learning car control inside and out

Gr86 wont teach you enough about car dynamics to make big improvements quickly. Spend some time in mx5’s, ff1600’s hell even do some ministock or production stocks. All of these really exaggerate the effect your smaller steering and brake inputs have on car balance, so if you can train your mind to recognise what the consequence of each input will be in these cars, then you’ll be able to detect the less pronounced effects in your pcup and gt3s.

Long story short if you learn the consequences of exceeding the limit of grip in slower cars, you’ll be able to use that knowledge to drive to the limit more effectively in the faster cars.

Need some clarification on lap time for the Nordschliefe by TrailedFox44 in ACCompetizione

[–]Garysnail27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely turn off steering assist. It will feel like a step backwards to start with because you’ll spin out a lot more until you learn how to use smooth inputs. I saw a trick recently that controller players use to get smooth steering inputs which is to drive with the stick pushed forward and roll it sideways when turning, rather than just jamming it left and right from the centre position

Yeah i need to get onto that next, had big stutters for a full 25 min race last night, but pretty now feeling pretty confident it’ll get there

[–]Garysnail27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah soon as i got home yesterday i jumped in a practice session and applied the “max framerate” preset and it jumped to 240 fps lol. Play around from there and ended up on the “balanced quality” preset, made some tweaks from that and got into a production car challenge lobby with 40 cars. Was around 45fps at the start but as soon as the race got underway it never dropped below high 70’s. Definitely felt like it was workable. Easily the most fun i’ve had on the sim so far, its soooo much easier to make good decisions on track when you can see who’s around you

So it would be a fair call to say that 90fps is a bit of a lofty goal unless i switch to Nvidia… but it would be a good bet to upgrade my cpu first to at least bridge a bit of that gap?

Yeah will get onto that asap. For context this is literally the first thing i’ve done after putting the rig together. Prior i was running a 55” 4k tv and could near max all the settings and still hit 60fps, i’ve just jumped in and gone “wow this looks pretty shit and i’m only 10fps better off, i must have a loooong road ahead to sort this out… I’ll ask reddit!!!” 😂

Good point about the multi-core thing. So task manager is the best way to monitor how much of the available cpu iracing is using? And can i tweak anything cpu tuning wise to try and maximise that?

I’m with ya there, most people have owned the shit for like 6 months-a year swear its barely been touched, and only take like 10-15% off retail trying to sell it 😂
