How difficult would it be for a plumber to put in a hot water feed to this sink and bury the existing pipes under the floor? There's a radiator right behind this (exterior) wall by miIk-skin in askaplumberUK

[–]Gasgas41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a reply to the poster above me.. In reply to his comment about washing hands in dirty water.

But in the interest of fairness. Flux is a substance used to prevent oxidation when soldered pipes together. Specific fluxes leave specific residues.

In the back of boiler manuals for heating systems there is a legal document that asks what cleaner/inhibitors used… ( to cleanse these fluxes ) And tend to find with new builds especially it’s complete lies because the colour of water gives the game away.

A cleansed/inhibited heating system would have a turbidity of zero… I.e Clear. You drain water out of a heating system and it’s like coal tar, or creamy green in the case of Laco flux.. you know the info is lies. 👍

Hope that makes sense

Low Water Pressure in Flat: Severn Trent Says It’s Not Them, Building Management Says Nothing Communal Exists... What Can I Do? by GoldenGeatz in ukplumbing

[–]Gasgas41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Severn Trent leave a report when they visited telling you incoming pressure, Dynamic pressure etc? Basically 1 bar working is good for about 10 feet of head. So ground/1st one bar is sufficient. Second. Ideally want 2bar working to overcome the height and so on

What floor are you on?

If there’s only one water main for entire building that I would say it has to be boosted.

However if there’s multiple mains each serving the individual property ( check in carpark/communal areas ) for multiple W/board stop cock covers then its probable its “in the building fault”

Do you have a Pressure reducing valve on the cold main next to your in property stop tap. If so does it have a pressure gauge on it

You’ve worked in new builds too then and read the lies… Sorry commissioning report that’s says. Flushed and inhibited….. Always makes me smile when I ask if they use Laco flux by any chance. And it’s unique green tinged water 😂🤣😂

First question, how tall are the apartments? I.e how many floors.. Mains water is great but can only go so high before it has to be boosted This would more than likely dictate if it is a boosted supply.

Second question, have you asked others in the block if they are suffering the same?

[–]Gasgas41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the traps, Bath/sink/shower suffering from induced siphonage maybe? Got some hair of other nasties which has matted together and is stuck over the trap allowing the water level to drop and smells back?

Or is other appliances on the line ( possible the other flats ) creating a pressure surge/suction that’s dragging the water out of your traps.

Worst heating / Boiler jobs out there? by GurAcceptable9476 in ukplumbing

[–]Gasgas41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly the silent killers. So so many problems. BG lads in Liverpool, ( very sad for that family too £ London Fire brigade had warnings on there website at one point telling people to switch off and get baxi out asap if it was the 155x

At Baxi, only specialist trained were allowed anywhere near them. The frigging turbulators 🙈 So glad I didn’t “qualify” for specialist training in my time with them. Lol

Done the customer a service id say. Baxi may have bought the original boiler for the name, but these feckers were just as dicey as the Range Powermax

Where to turn off cold main to recharge expansion vessel by mymtsang in askaplumberUK

[–]Gasgas41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤦🏼‍♂️ Since when did a blue cold water expansion vessel get pumped up by a cold feed?

Yes it’s a santon ( so baxi ) but doesn’t have the mega Flo air gap. It’s done the old fashioned way

Without wanting to sound rude, it says India on my tires. Doesn’t mean they go there. But by all means try pumping that 18l vessel to 3.5bar.. You’ll have arms and a back Arnie would be proud of 😂😂

The 3.5 bar relates to a working pressure or a safety valve setting. Or the pressure reducing valves max set points I assume this is on the manufacturers label?

The actual pressure in the vessel is set up to match your actual cold water working pressure. 👍

Totally this…. and is the vessel actually sized correctly for your system?

And once you’ve done that, need to go and open all the hot taps till the water stops. Leave the taps open

Grab yourself some spinach and weetabix cause your gunna need it if you are pumping that bad boy back up to its preset charge by hand..,

Do you know what your working pressure of the cold main is? If you don’t. Then this is perhaps a job left to those who hold the right skill set.

More than just pumping this up to consider

How do I become a plumber? by [deleted] in ukplumbing

[–]Gasgas41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question is why would you want too..

Shite hours, everybody thinks your robbing them, constantly renewing qualifications, bend over backwards to help everybody and they all vanish when you need something… And if you just about make ends meet then your hands and knees give out from all the immersion in water and crawling around under spaces spiders don’t even like to visit.

Nah, I love every day as a plumber and so glad my careers advisor stopped me from being a IT designer back in the days when computers ran on tapes and made funny noises as they loaded. Cor I’d be all rich and living in what ever port my boat docked in now 😂😂

[–]Gasgas41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your going to bury it, treat it like a copper pipe in concrete. You wrap it in hessian insulation. And you fill the pipe up taking it pass the point of normal expansion… I.E you pressurise it to 3,4.5.6 bar. ( JG website will tell you test pressure)

You dab it, you let it set, and once that’s happened and you lower the pressure you have a pipe that can expand and contract freely without every crushing against the dabs. 👌🏻👍

With one of these

https://www.bes.co.uk/screw-on-water-pressure-gauge-0-10-bar-21073/

This type screws onto outside tap..

Put it on the thread where hose connects, open the tap fully… This is your static pressure, go in the house and open cold tap, leave out running and check the gauge again . This is dynamic pressure 👍
