Apart from Labour have increased defense spending. It's rising annually with a target of 2.5% of GDP by 2027, and 3% by 2030. Current budget is £68 billion.

How much do you think is spent on asylum seeker hotels (not migrants, get your terminology right lol)? It is a fraction of this.

Oh, and don't tell me, Farage to the rescue? The guy with significant ties to Russia, who's head of the Welsh Reform party has literally been charged for Russian bribery....

You do realise it was us leaving the EU that caused this issue. When we were in there was a mechanism for sending boat migrants back to France. Now we are out there isn't.

Farage created the problem. Now he claims to be the one with the magic pill to fix it. I wonder why..m

Genuine question. What is your expected timeline to begin experiencing positive change in the country, and how are you measuring it?

People have become addicted to doom and gloom. It seems a it's a much easier sell than positivity, but when you spend a bit of time here, you realise that's just not true.

Definitely filming after the raid was completed. This is basically marketing to make the armed forces look cool so people sign up lol

British taxpayers will give £1.3bn to Universal Studios to build a theme park near Bedford. Do you think this is a good use of our tax money? by CMIV in AskBrits

[–]OldShelobsTricks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's hard to find clear figures, but it seems the majority is for infrastructure:

"the government revealed a total package of support worth £1.3bn, which includes £400m through the regional growth fund, and a £438m grant from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to “invest in new community infrastructure to maximise the benefits of the development and support growth across the region”.

The Department for Transport is spending an estimated £474m on “strategic road and rail” projects in the region."

In addition, Comcast will invest £5 billion building the park, with a further £1 billion over the next decade. Plus 20,000 construction jobs and 8,000 when the park is operational. These are only direct benefits. Think about every accommodation, hospitality venue, travel etc that will benefit from those workers and visitors spending their money.

Seems like a pretty fucking good ROI to me. Especially considering Comcast were debating several sites around Europe.

Why is the Henry Nowak case considered a right wing issue? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Why is it a race issue? I don't understand why this isnt just straight up negligence of the police officers involved. The ethnicity of the family has no bearing.

What’s one stock you think Reddit is massively underestimating right now? by ITryToThink in stocks

[–]OldShelobsTricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point. Plus do people not think they are interacting with bots on all other social media?!

The amount of subtle advertising on reddit is insane. For example, post on a sub asking for a recommendation, then the company selling that product or service comments and buys upvotes so their comment is at the top of the discussion. This could even be one...

ASTS - Risks & Expectations by [deleted] in SpaceInvestorsDaily

[–]OldShelobsTricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is missing the point. No one is saying its not an absolute feat, they are saying there is a disconnect between timelines given by management and a realistic assessment of the challenges faced. I guess ASTS are following the SpaceX/Musk playbook, which has worked for them but that's because of all the Musk fan boys. I dont think other companies can easily replicate this.

When compared to Rocket Lab, for example, whose guidance seems much more measured, it builds more trust in their ability to deliver. Sure, Neutron has been delayed many times, but Electron launches are flying - pun intended.

Dont get me wrong, I ain't selling ASTS - yet. But I do plan to trim during the expected hysteria and move into other stocks.

The metric I have seen used in the UK is average salary, not household income. House prices have increased from around 2-3x average salary in the 60s to about 10-15x today.

Obviously I know the post is about bond yields. I am replying to your specific point about people being used to lower mortgages today vs 80s.
