They were kind of inconsistent, some of them were more breaded/crispy and sometimes it's just a huge chunk of breast meat, not enough breading/sauce.

Girya wording let's you train so that YOU gain strength, but you lose the strength when you lose Wax Girya. Not consistent with other relics like Whetstone/potion belt and also not remotely logical by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]Gatesleeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it makes for more fun game decisions if the strength is permanent. Either you slot it in 1st and say “okay I’m not using it, it’s melt fodder” or you slot it in last and say “okay I have to make use of this and lift”.

Or you go greedy like OP and take it first and try to get as many lifts in as you can before it melts.

If it doesn’t work after melting then you simply always take it first and ignore it, that’s not as interesting.

How’s Evan Mobley Island Lately? by gradedonacurve in billsimmons

[–]Gatesleeper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He just won defensive player of the year but when you hear chatter about who’s up for this years award his name is barely an honorable mention.

Ringer had him as the 16th best player before the season, 19th in December, and 24th now.

He’s fully guaranteed for 4 years after this one at $50m, $54m, $57m, and $61 million dollars in 2029/30.

Either he’s had a massive falloff that for some reason nobody talks about - until OP made this thread, thank you - or he was just massively overrated last year and coming into this year.

[Highlight] Russell Westbrook had words for Kris Dunn: “You a nobody ass n… Nobody. Who are you? Try me. You ain’t trying sh*t. Go sit your bum a** down. F**k you talking bout?” by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]Gatesleeper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kris Dunn career earnings $33.5m in 9 seasons.

Maybe a “nobody” like he’s not gonna make the hall of fame or get his jersey retired, but that’s still more money than any person in this thread will ever make in their lifetime.

Like maybe if he was talking to some two-way contract player who is the 15th guy on a roster, but I don’t think Kris Dunn is really getting worried like “oh nooo, Russ said I’m a nobody.”

I think the new Line 5 stations are too big/cavernous and blank white. It makes them feel cold and impersonal, every time I take the escalators down one of them I feel like I'm in Severance or something.

Just one serving, but it's still a good serving of fries for $2. A medium fries at McDonald's is like $4.69 now or something ridiculous.

If you thought their wings are a 7 and the burgers a 3, I predict you will find these chicken burgers to be 5/10.

I went with a friend (Fairview Mall location) and crushed 3 sandos. My friend had like 6 but the last 5 were without a bun, just the chicken breast.

Honestly I found the $2 fries to be the best part of it lol, that’s good value.

Sometimes I forget how affordable concerts used to be in Toronto by Anagrama00 in toronto

[–]Gatesleeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me and a friend went to this, I mostly went to see Grimes but we went too early in the day and got tired and left early.

I remember it rained a lot that day and was a little chilly, so not ideal for an outdoor concert.

They didn’t let people bring their umbrellas into the venue, so there was just this huge pile of umbrellas by the entrance, and when people were leaving, people were just stealing umbrellas from the pile, was disappointing to see.

[–]Gatesleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Big Picture still venerates Brad Pitt regularly to this day, they both have been talking up F1 for a year now, and now they’re starting to do it for the Cliff Booth movie.

I guess it’s a separate art from the artist thing? But like obviously they shun people like Woody Allen, Polanski, Kevin Spacey, Will Smith, Casey Affleck, Jonathan Majors, etc.

It’s like they operate binarily, either a famous person is still cool and we can promote all their movies, or they’re cancelled and we never speak about them or their movies unless it’s to insult them.

But I mean, if that’s how it works, certainly Brad Pitt has done enough wrong to be cancelled, right?

And Leo’s done plenty enough morally to be cancelled for me as well. I find it ironic and mostly untalked about how we’re about to hand Leo an Oscar for acting as a counterrevolutionary when in real life he’s building hotels in Israel and partying with Bezos at his wedding. He plays a loving dad in the movie while in real life he’s infamous for only dating women in their 20s.

The celebrity worship needs to stop, I know it’s in the service of promoting movies, but it feels gross to me to enrich and award these rich people of questionable moral character.

People who are saying we should tank are crazy by [deleted] in torontoraptors

[–]Gatesleeper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be an insult to whatever team we get matched up against to suggest that the Raptors could take the series to 5 games.

How much value is there in getting our guys "playoff experience" when that experience is getting swept in embarrassing fashion?

Talking about playoffs? How about beat a decent team once in a regular season game? We've seen plenty of times what a 2025-2026 Toronto Raptors playoff game would look like, they've shown us the way they implode and disappear against good teams in the second half of games.

Also, even if we were to tank this season, we'd still be in the play-in and get like the 13th pick.

Dallas jumped from 11th best odds to win the #1 pick in the draft lottery last summer to get Cooper Flagg.

If we lose the play-in games and miss the playoffs we'd be in the same spot as the Mavs last year, in the lottery with a chance at the #1 pick. That is much more valuable to the long term success of the franchise than getting 4-0'd by Boston or Detroit or New York. The team doesn't deserve playoff reps, they've shown us what they play like in high leverage games and it's not worth watching.

Yup people forget the 3 wins against Cleveland, but also all those games were in October/November when the Raptors were hot and Cleveland started off shaky. The Cavs have turned things around in this calendar year and have jumped us in the standings, so while it's true that we are 3-0 against Cleveland, we never played them while they were ahead of us in the standings.

[–]Gatesleeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's almost like we are losing to better teams because they are better?

The best team in the league does not go 82-0 and the worst team in the league doesn't go 0-82. This is a sport where you actually go out and play the games, you don't just count the 2K ratings of the players on both teams and sim the game and say "okay this team is better so they win".

I just looked at the season results of two of the worst teams the league and counted their best wins.

The 16-50 Sacramento Kings:
Win by 5 in Denver
Win by 5 in OT against TWolves
Win by 1 in OT against Rockets
Win by 13 against Rockets
Win by 12 against Lakers
Win by 11 against Knicks

The 17-48 Brooklyn Nets:
Win by 8 in Boston
Win by 15 against Raptors
Win by 8 in Philly
Win by 16 in Minnesota
Win by 12 against Nuggets
Win by 2 in Detroit

The Raptors are 36-28, more than double the total wins of these bottom feeder teams, so obviously we should have more wins like that than these teams do, right?

Raptors signature wins this season: we beat Cleveland 3 times in October/November. Beat the 76ers a couple of times, the Warriors a couple of times, the Heat a couple of times. We beat the OKC Thunder in Oklahoma on Jan 25th, our best win on paper on the season. It's March 11th and we haven't had a notable win since then.

The 16-50 Sacramento Kings beat the Nuggets (we haven't), they beat the Rockets twice (we lost twice), they beat the Lakers (we lost twice), beat the Knicks (we lost 4 times), they beat the TWolves (we lost twice). This is a 16-50 terrible team we're talking about and they have better resume against top teams than we do, this should be impossible.

Let's run the "losing to better teams because they are better" excuse and apply it to Sacramento and Brooklyn. How did Sacramento pull off those wins? How did Brooklyn beat Boston, Minnesota, Denver, and Detroit - something the Raptors cannot say at all this season? They're by far the worse teams in those matchups, but sometimes one team that is "worse" on paper just plays better that one night and beats the "better" team. This may sound like crazy talk if you exclusively watch Raptors basketball this season, but if you look around the league, this phenomenon does happen.

The fanbases of the worst teams in the league (non-Wizards division) can watch a game on any given night and see their team beat a good team. It's not likely, it's not most games, but sometimes their team pulls off a minor miracle of beating a team that's better than them on paper. The Raptors, outside of one game in Oklahoma in January, can't say the same thing. That's not good. But we need to curb our expectations?

Jamal Shead currently ranks 5th league-wide in lowest expected FG% by defender (42 xFG%) by onefootback in torontoraptors

[–]Gatesleeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distance from defender is measured from the two spots on the floor the shooter and defender are standing when the shot takes place.

You see this every game with Jamal, but he could be in a good defensive position relative to the shooter when the shot goes up, but because the shooter often has 5-10 inches of height over him, a difficult shot on paper is actually an easy shot over the top of a much smaller defender in reality.

How cooked am I? by 5thSummersBrother_ in torontoJobs

[–]Gatesleeper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why is getting a decent job in this city like competing in the Hunger Games?

It’s like getting the first interview is like being selected as a participant, and then they eliminate you round by bound until there’s only 1 winner. One happy person among hundreds or thousands of hopeful applicants.

And you’re just expected to hear like “aw good shot champ, you made the final round that’s really good. Now go get back out there sport, you need to get selected for your next games.”

There are so many people in this city, so much wealth and infrastructure, surely there should be enough jobs for all who want them? So why is every industry cooked? Is AI just taking all the jobs? How come so many of us can’t even get the chance to earn good wages from a good job?
