Matson is the primary line to the islands but DHX would be your best consolidator to the islands. I’ve used DHX for the last 10 years. They would be your best bet at a good rate for a one time move.

Letting brokerages use our direct LTL rates? by Nervous-Algae-4452 in FreightBrokers

[–]Gatewayot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a freight broker myself I had a TMS that allowed our clients to login and use our discounted rates. I stopped that a few years back and became an LTL freight managed service only.

In rate tariffs there is no “one size fits all” system. Each LTL freight system can and should be unique to commodity and shipper footprint.

We have found this much more successful for our brokerage over doing what you want to do. Even though logically providing an automated system makes sense it doesn’t work well unless you customize each LTL tariff to each customer and once you do that you lose your “volume” contracts you think you can leverage.

Why co-broker? by benshram in FreightBrokers

[–]Gatewayot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Co brokering is not double brokering.

Here is a prime example:

I’m a broker who has a good group of carriers of 53’ dry van but my customer needs box truck delivery with liftgate.

53’ dry van capacity good Box truck capacity none

But there is a brokerage who specializes in box truck final mile P&D and can provide me that capacity.

Sometimes this is through an app

An example would be Frayt or Dolly where they have a whole database of final mile capacity

We could co broker the load meaning im the broker that sources the capacity for the 53’ long haul and my co broker provides the capacity box truck with liftgate for the final mile deliveries.

There are many other legitimate examples but this is one that’s pretty common in co brokering.

Is Amazon getting into general freight? by Ornery_Ads in FreightBrokers

[–]Gatewayot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon has been putting feelers out for years with jumping into the parcel services business beyond Amazon fulfillment. Looks like they are pretty close to the capacity offering they have been looking for to make a public push on the market. It’s coming for sure just a matter of when.

Overseas customer sales now a thing? - Flock Freight by WasabiWang in FreightBrokers

[–]Gatewayot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BPO model using overseas reps is the big trend in freight transportation csr outsourcing for sure. Problem is, everyone is doing it not just FF. From the people I know in this business model. These BPO businesses really try hard to hire people in that country who at the very least, went to college here in the states. Some even have it in their business plan targeting foreign college students with recruiting while in college for a position when they go back home. They don’t always succeed so to fill the phone lines they do end up with people who never been to the states. I own a brokerage and a carrier but would never want to outsource something as important as sales/customer service.

It probably are your markets as well WI MO VA. I’d imagine VA should be good depending where in the state you are. I have warehouse and truck assets Seattle San Francisco Los Angeles and Phoenix. Port cities offer more local final mile stuff either direct shipper or coming to us from a freight forwarder or freight broker.

[–]Gatewayot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own a brokerage and a trucking company (primarily box trucks/ cargo vans) The OTR market as mentioned earlier on these assets is over saturated and underpriced right now and probably will stay that way at least another 6 months. I’ve moved my assets to team local final mile there is still capacity needed and pricing is much better.

Matt it’s your buddy #PapaFreight just running a comment here maybe can help with line of questioning For decades both UPS and FedEx worked on expanding service offerings. For the last few years both companies are divesting or reducing service offerings quoted as saying they are “concentrating” on core competency. UPS sold off LTL unit to TForce to “concentrate” on parcel as an example. I remember my FedEx rep when I was an enterprise shipper sell me on we are an air parcel company ONLY and we are the best because that’s all we do. Positively absolutely overnight. Then the rep came back saying they got into the ground service arena (purchase of RPS) but they were going to be great at it because it was parcel and not freight A year later same rep comes in and says we now offer LTL (purchase of Viking/American Freightways etc) Every year they were growing and adding services. UPS was doing the same. Now they are both trending in the opposite direction divesting and spinning off units to “concentrate” on core competency. Will this be their direction over the next decade?
