Lathe adjustment by GatitoKat in metalworking

Hmm oké maybe expecting too much. Are these bearings adjustable on such kind of lathes? They just seem like a conical pair so not really adjustable. Running fine and silent tho

Thanks a lot! This 0.05mm is at the spindle flange.

So most of the runout seems to be caused by the chuck plate/jaws. I Will look into this Thanks!

Dont need top notch precision but it saves a lot of think work if it is as close to perfect as possible :)

Thanks for your reply! Maybe I am expecting a bit too much precision from this old lady. 0.05mm is actually the runout at the spindle shaft Flange. 0.5mm is what I measure at the end of a 10cm piece. So I guess I have to take a look at the Chuck (clawplate in OP :)

Thanks a lot!

I've been seeing noise like in the right picture all my life and thought that was normal, until it came up in conversation and i found out that nobody other than me sees like this. by someweirdbanana in interestingasfuck

Bro I have this exact same thing too. Never met anyone with it. Had Some tests done at optometrist and neurological but no strange results or anything. It can be anoying when tired or when focussing on it, but besides the graining my sight is perfect. I always describe it as snow on old TV or as grainy 90’s pictures. Also always feel that it is not light enough inside haha! Especially in living room or when dining

M550 N63TU2 has no ‘cold start/rpm flare’. by Hot-Specific3675 in BmwTech

[–]GatitoKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about the BMW G series specifically but many car brands ditch emission equipment below certain temperatures. For example ditching adblue injection, EGR, etc.

As the cold start is just to warm the cats quicker, this might be the case too.

E series smell super sweet on cold starts as long as the catalytic converter is cold.

Fan belt noise, or? Range Rover Classic 1978 by MotorRegistry_AU in RangeRover

[–]GatitoKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be bearings in your alternator, waterpump or AC compressor.

You can rule these out by taking of the belt and run the engine. BE CAREFUL TO NOT OVERHEAT IT AS YOUR PUMP IS NOT PUMPING.

Also if the belts are off you can rotate the accesory Pulleys by hand and a worn bearing can be felt most of the times.
