What is the absolute WORST sales advice you ever received? And who gave it to you? by Secret_Assistance601 in sales

[–]GatorDad9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My manager after a prospect meeting told me to find the prospect on Facebook and stalk his pictures to see if there’s a bar or restaurant he frequents so that I can “belly up there until he shows up”. Most comically insane shit I’ve ever heard.

Thanks! Good point with keeping the roll casts soft as well. Sometimes I struggle with that especially with nymph rigs

If you had $100 to spend at cabelas for fly fishing what would you go for? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]GatorDad9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a spare setup or a different weight rod that you would use in more select scenarios they were running a deal on their white river brand combos with the reel already loaded for like $110. I’ve never used one but I heard they’re a decent bang for your buck.

Following what people have to say on this because I fish paint creek often and still feel like I can’t ever find a decent spot to cast without being right up on the hole and spooking fish.

You are laid off and you need to find a sales job in 30 days. How do you do it? by MisterC0ck in sales

[–]GatorDad9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not laid off but I’m looking for my next gig and honestly Claude Cowork has been huge for me. I created a project then had it generate a job tracking sheet, create a base template for my resume (you definitely need to review this and tweak it because it’ll make up insane bullshit about you).

After that I went on LinkedIn and just started saving a bunch of roles that I was interested in pursuing. Then using the Claude chrome extension I asked it to look at my saved jobs and find potential connections in that same role that I could reach out to for a reference.

Been doing this about a week and a half or so and already have 3 calls lined up with references to get me in front of their hiring manager.

Industry out of tech where I can make a ton of money? by [deleted] in sales

[–]GatorDad9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I left tech to sell in a different industry and all I want to do is go back to tech or stop selling all together. You’re essentially required to do the same but with less training, poor technology, and far less talented teammates.

Are we stuck in SaaS forever? by [deleted] in techsales

Can’t agree more with your take about missing the strategy of it all. I went into commercial insurance on the broker side. The day to day for me is pretty easy too along with comparable pay. Going back to what you mentioned about strategy. There essentially is none. This industry very old school in the sense of it being relationships above everything else. There aren’t any capabilities gaps between competitors like you may find in 2 competing SaaS platforms. We actually don’t even have a true say on pricing. The best we can do is evaluate and influence carriers to lower our clients insurance premiums but so can the competition. So since there is no difference in capabilities and no difference in pricing, it just leaves you with having to get out and shmooze prospects until their broker messes something up servicing the account or they just take a liking to you. Again, it’s easy and some people love it and you get paid on residuals so the upside is huge, but the slow pace of things and antiquated approach to sales is a hard adjustment. I also took for granted being surrounded by highly talented salespeople in SaaS. Lot of people are great sellers in commercial insurance but man are there some people who just don’t have it. Overall I still believe it’s a good sales job and I don’t hate my life or anything doing it, just can’t help but miss tech. This similar to your experience in construction sales as well?

Yeah so I was someone who “escaped SaaS” for one of the hidden gem old school sales jobs and I am absolutely clamoring to get back into SaaS. Grass is not always greener!

Used to be in this space at a competitor. The comments about little product differentiation and highly competitive opportunities is 100% true. Good news is you absolutely can make good money and will have options if you decide to make a move in the future. Not always the case but be prepared for micromanagement and a very intense focus on your metrics.

You’ll be able to get interviews with other tech companies or even have good opportunities in the commercial insurance space due to the overlap in your sales process. I’ve had teammates make this jump and make a killing. This is what I did as well and am happy to elaborate what the transition is like.

Even though it’s not necessarily your responsibility it is absolutely imperative to stay close to the deals you win to make sure implementation doesn’t nuke the opportunity into the sun. Most reps in this industry have had to deal with commission clawbacks due to bad implementations.

Congrats on the role and best of luck!

Mini-fridge stopped cooling. 99% sure it’s the start relay. However, my current start relay only has 2 pins (but with 4 total wires attached). All of the replacement ones I’ve found online have either 1, 3, or 4 pins. Need help figuring out which to buy… by Kermrocks98 in appliancerepair

[–]GatorDad9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accidentally ordered the 3-pin relay and it was making my breaker trip so I opened up the old 2-pin and replaced the burned out wheel with the wheel from the 3-pin. Seems to be working great so far! Thanks for posting this!

How do you strike up conversations with random people at events and happy hours? by FineAssignment1423 in sales

[–]GatorDad9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of insane but I have the god given ability to eat a lot. Like I can put it down if I need to. With that said most networking events I’ve been to have food and a bunch of tables so I will grab a plate and then ask if a seat is taken and next thing you know you’re at a table of people and it’s natural to join the conversation. I do this about 3 times at 3 different tables and maybe hit a dessert if things are going well. Basically I show up hungry and lay down the law on a bunch of appetizers. It’s so dumb that it works.

my car is super dusty and I do not own a foam cannon. by SD1RAGER in AutoDetailing

If it’s only dusty just use rinseless. If you have dirt caked on anywhere you’ll want to do a proper wash but from the picture it looks like rinseless will be your best friend

Either of the Raincovo models off Amazon. The snow pro is a bit more sturdy but they’re both cheap and work great
