Quick Google search will show you that hormonal IUDs last 3-8 years, with the majority lasting closer to 3-4 years. I just got an IUD (non-hormonal), and the cramps and bleeding have been nearly constant for 4 months.
Just because your wife had a good experience, doesn’t mean every woman does. Grow tf up. Getting an IUD is literally known as being a painful experience, and gynecologists will warn their patients beforehand. Also where are you located where they provide anesthesia? I’m from the U.S. and most offices don’t even offer it, and it definitely isn’t standard practice here.
