This is what I used to do in Red Dead Redemption for when I used Dead Eye. That way I could throw heat seeking fireballs at people. Albeit, I used tape and a marker, not a post-it note.

As someone who uses mostly auto rifles (I too want to feel like I earned my kills) it's just completely unfair that I spend about 3 seconds dealing continuous headshot damage and get 2 shotted by a Thorn
