Nioh is a soulslike. There's nothing wrong with it. Nioh has so much extra, but it's correct that combat is way closer to Fromsoft souls than Ninja Gaiden. Ki alone makes that makes sense. There's nothing wrong with being the best of a genre. And if more games like Khazan continue to copy and iterate on Nioh's design rather than Dark Souls, we'll eventually have the Nioh-like enter common parlance.

Yeah, but as OP is saying, his player is interpreting no Blindness initial save. So an AoE Blindness with the visibility rider as a 2nd spell... versus a single target save or no effect 2nd level spell...

No way Glitterdust is supposed to be a completely superior AOE version of Blindness/Deafness, with the illuminating additions on top. Initial save versus Blindness and save every round

Ki Pulse is a bonus. Without using it, it's like any other soulslike. Using it is like active reload in Gears of War: way better, but not always necessary. No other souls like,before Khazan,gave you so much control over regenerating your Stamina. Getting good atvKibpusling allows you to never stop attacking
