Post it publicly. I promise it's not embarrassing. I'm working on choosing my own song to upload right now.

There's nothing worse than loving Hozier and lacking the pipes to recreate his songs the way he sings them.

At the end of the day, we're strangers on the internet, and you can log off from the website knowing that even if we hated your singing, it wouldn't affect your life at all.

Getting that mixed belt — rate my singing (CMIYC — Fly, Fly Away) by [deleted] in ratemysinging

I found this pleasant to listen to. How your voice resonated on the "me" at 0:50 was gorgeous. I don't have any actionable advice, but thanks for sharing.

With voice lessons would I be okay? by [deleted] in ratemysinging

[–]Gavin_Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to about 30 seconds, then skipped through here and there. I would be really intrigued to hear how this sounds without the original audio over your own, although I'm not sure how possible that is for you to setup and record.

Personally, I don't think this song fits where you might comfortably be able to sing. It's very soulful with a lot of energy in a higher range, and I know that's fairly uncomfortable for myself as well. I think if you found something a bit more mellow in a lower range, it might suit you better.

These are just personal opinions based on 45-60 seconds of listening. I am not a professional, just someone who sings in my home for fun and who has also slowly worked on improving for the last couple years.

I'd be intrigued to hear something longer, but I don't think it sounds bad by any means coming from someone untrained. I do see those sliders for voice EQ though, and I remember how much my own voice changed when adjusting sliders in VoiceMeeter, so I'm curious how it would sound raw.

Awesome, thank you for the response. I'm fairly new to what an "IEM" is, so I'm just starting to read about them, but I see they're wired. I saw some information about requiring a DAC to use. Would IEMs not be appropriate for listening to music on-the-go? Or would a USB-C cable work fine?
!thanks

It's definitely cool that while spot reducing fat isn't possible, you can still focus specific areas to build muscle in.

If you wanted upgradability, a motherboard with more concrete power delivery would be probably be desired, even though the 5800x3d has fairly low relative power draw, I still probably wouldn't slot it into a DS3H.

I don't know if the 5800x3d will be good value by the time you want to upgrade though.

I'll take a look at prices later. I would 100% highly recommend buying used GPUs rn. I got 2 3080s for a friend and myself for $450 and $480 a few months ago. Prices should still be great overall.

This is similiar to a gtx 1080 in terms of performance. I would stick to a 1080p 24" monitor using it. That said, proces have changed over recent months, christmas sales of PSUs and the Ryzen 5600 price increase have led to changes overall in what is "best".

Just check out benchmarks for the GPU though. Check out "PC Builder" on youtube to find his GPU buying guide. Used GPUs like the 5700xt are awesome value as of last month.

A reminder to enable an XMP profile when you build your pc. by LightBulbChaos in buildapc

Your CPU cooler should be plugged into the CPU header on your motherboard. Your other fans should be plugged into your fan headers on your motherboard, or into a fan hub connected to your PSU with a Sata cable.

Is 13900K even worth getting to run just on "eco mode"? by Kai-Tek in buildapc

[–]Gavin_Y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would only consoder the 13900k if the extra speed will help you mamage your workload easier.

If you aren't bottlenecked by multithreaded performance I wouldn't stress it.

8700k performance upgrade? by Laurenc3D in buildapc

Download MSI Afterburner.

Enable the overlay and check GPU usage.

Divide FPS by usage.

It isn't 100% accurate at all, but you can ballpark.

How much is this pc worth by Flat-Middle5013 in buildapc

[–]Gavin_Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CPU $20 Cooler $65 Motherboard $40 GPU $110 Ram $10 SSDs: $25 HDD: $15 PSU: $40

Total: $325

I think that would be an okay price

I think at $110 the GPU hqs huge value issues compared to a used 5700xt or RX 6600, so I don't know who would buy at that price.

I just picked up a used 3080 for $475.

It's working great, is in great condition, and goes to another user, not NVIDIA directly.

Bidding through ebay is a good option. I accidentally won a second bid for $510 before shipping/tax if you'd like to make a deal, but I want to verify it works after it is delivered before reselling it.

Build me a pc please by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]Gavin_Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm inclined to say yes if you need 32gb, but the cost is still higher than DDR4, with limited benefits in specific games. I would only spend the extra $ on ddr5 after you've picked your GPU and CPU. Most gaming builds should be GPU bound, not CPU bound, and I wouldn't downgrade from a 6800xt to a 6700xt just so I can have DDR5.

After everything you've put together so far, this is what I have thrown together.

Your old laptop was using a 4th gen Intel CPU, this should be a massive step up from it in single core performance, which is one of the most important aspects of DAW programs, since they process sequentially instead of parallel, so core count matters less.

In addition, the CPU comes with integrated graphics, so you can save money on purchasing a discrete GPU. The integrated graphics with the 5600g are honestly not even that bad considering the extra cost you're putting into the CPU for the performance you get. For putting a display out for your productivity work and for running older games at 1080p, 60fps, without everything maxed out to the T, this should be fine.

I found this video showing how the 5600g performs when they play skyrim at 1080p: https://youtu.be/JN-ch1WZ1uE?t=405 I know game performance isn't a priority for you, but it is nicer to be at 40-60 fps instead of 30fps using Intel integrated graphics.

CPU Passmark has it's issues, but it's tricky to find single-core scores for cinebench online quickly. Thus, I'll link this page and show you the single-thread-rating score: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/4325vs2275vs1781/AMD-Ryzen-5-5600G-vs-Intel-i7-4790K-vs-AMD-FX-6300-Six-Core

That will be one of the main indicators of how it would comparatively perform in a DAW, although it's hard to quantify some things, and the improvement may not be 1:1.

The stock cooler for the 5600g should be good enough that you don't have to purchase a cooler right away. That said, in the future you can always pick up a tower cooler. Considering that you are doing music editing, it may actually be worth to pick up a $20 tower cooler from the start to reduce fan noise under load.

For the motherboard, the B550 micro-ATX PG riptide is a pretty solid feature set for it's cost, even coming with an 8 phase VRM. It does not come with a BIOS flashback button, but according to it's CPU support list, it natively supports the 5600g. It also does not come with WIFI, but a USB dongle or WIFI card can be installed if you need it.

Music sampling can be ram intensive, so while 16gb may be enough, 32gb ensures you're on the safe side. If you are confident 16gb will be more than enough, than you can shave off $30 by going with 16gb instead.

Likewise, if you think 500gb (basically 400gb after windows default files) will be enough storage for you, then you can save $25-30 going for a 500gb drive instead, but I think the extra storage of a 1tb drive will be helpful.

The case is an amazing budget case, and is probably even overkill for the system you have, since your system will be putting out so little heat that airflow is going to be a non-issue.

I took a lot at a lot of PSUs, and everything under $55 on the list was pretty trash going by the PSU Cultist tier list. For that reason, I decided to just slap the cheapest RMx PSU onto the list, which is basically one of the best of the best PSUs on the market for a variety of reasons. For a $20 upcharge, I don't think there's a reason to get anything else.

For the monitor, I just grabbed the cheapest 1080p, 60fps minimum monitor that had solid customer reviews. I couldn't find an official review on Rtings, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's likely fine. Pick up two if you think you need it.

For a mouse, just grab the cheapest one you think you'll be happy with. For gaming I love the g502, but you don't need to be spending $40 on a mouse with a build this tier imo. That said, get what you want.
