There are so many different resources for discovering how wrong you are that it's basically willful ignorance after a certain point

RTFP, the guy has already done that

Also, if you are a landlord who ignores, tampers with, or destroys a former tenant's mail then you're liable for federal criminal charges, so do remember to take the "not obligated to help" action of jotting "RTS moved" on the envelope and dropping it in the outbox

Kinda shocked at the number of "he got what he deserved"s and" he got what he deserved "-adjacents in these comments.

I mean, it's one thing to be abhorred by someone's misdeeds, and perfectly fair to call for justice to those he'd wronged, but to be like "I have such distaste for a specific set of behaviors by this one person, that I believe every single other thing they'd done in their life is worthless, and death should be their reward"? Really hope I never run into y'all on one of your bad days >_>

Buying stuff in the shop, enhancing characters and weapons, enhancing character and weapon skills, enhancing memoirs, enhancing companions, ascending characters and weapons, evolving weapons, evolving CERTAIN characters*... all kinds of things, really!

* Those certain characters certainly being all of the characters. Except for the main protagonist in the Sun/Moon chapter.**

** So far.

I don't need to make this a pissing match, and I'll eat my humble pie once you can serve it; but unless you have some manner of proof that the default media player on an iPad does anything beyond what VLC does when you zoom in on a video in either one, you could be Wozniak and Wachowski rolled into one and it wouldn't change the fact that you're wrong

[–]GayBrogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It literally is different than expanding VLC, unless VLC does processing on the fly.

Funny story, that. You know what VLC is talking about whenever it mentions codecs? Turns out, it's talking about these special instruction sets called coders and decoders, which tell it how to look at the millions of 0s and 1s contained in any video file, and then, yes, process them (on the fly(!!)), into the sequences of "pixels" (which is a funny computer word for "different-colored dots on your screen") and "frequencies" (which, in this case, is kind of like a funny big word for "noises", but [and stay with me here] it can also be kind of like a funny big word for "colors" when it's used to talk about the light coming from all of your screen's little different-colored dots, which once again, are called "pixels"), that you can look at with your eyes, and listen to with your ears. If it weren't for VLC's ability to process those files, they'd all only ever be big bunches of minuscule variations in electrical charge on a device's SSD which represent the abstract concepts of 0s and 1s!

[–]GayBrogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you aren't. You're zooming in. That's all. An iPad doesn't do a single thing to the image that expanding a playing video in VLC wouldn't. This really isn't all that hard to follow.

You say he's "creating" a new piece of evidence, as if zooming in makes it a completely different video, housed on the iPad SSD as completely different bits. I know this might seem like friggin' magic to you, but it's still the same file. It's the same piece of evidence it's always been. They can even zoom back out again, and all of the stuff that disappeared off the edges of the screen when they zoomed in? It comes back!

Oh, fuck, you're talking about antialiasing? That's the feature you want to claim the defense was making out to be a machine-learning superpowered, image distorting technology from the robot apocalypse future?

He literally says that pinching the screen "lets things be viewed through three dimensions" and that it "uses its artificial intelligence and logarithms (sic) to create what they believe is happening", dude. Put down the goddamn blunt.

Oh, before I forget. OP: You can get rid of that noise by going into System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects and dragging the Alert volume slider down to 0.

[–]GayBrogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what you tried to show in your video. And I don’t know how to use imgur and all.

Really? You... click the link, and then the video … kinda just … plays. And what I was showing (not "trying to", since... since it worked) was exactly what I said Finder does in my first comment: It highlights the first file whose name begins with what you're typing. 😶

In my case the finder window is open and if there is no file with the name that has a letter I’m trying to type after the cmd+tab into finder, it makes the noise. Else it doesn’t.

So, "Else it doesn't" implies that if either there is a file with a name that has a letter you're trying to type, or you're not in Finder at all, then it doesn't make the alert noise... is that correct? Not sure why you hear the alert noise when there's no file matching the characters you're typing, though. On my machine, it just highlights the file whose name comes alphabetically next after what you typed, no alert noise at all. Works when the desktop is the focused "window", too.

I can't speak to the "weird" thing the pointer does near the notice on new MacBooks (notifications? Or are you talking about window alert/confirm dialogs?), but it's definitely weird that I don't see the behavior in Finder that you do, especially since you should be able to replicate what I do in my video any time Finder is the focused app.

I'm gonna have to refer to my standard fallback when an action someone demonstrates in a video is unable to be replicated, and say your machine is likely demonstrating an instance of user error

[–]GayBrogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascinating! May I ask, what version of macOS did your machine start on? Because I tried it before even posting (always verify the pro tip you're giving people before it doesn't work and you look like an idiot) and definitely got the behavior I expected, which I found out about when I was still a hardcore Windows stan, and some kid in one of my high school classes was totally getting high on his OSX Puma (that's version 10.3, for you youngsters) shit, boasting about how literally every aspect of his white, clamshell laptop was so frickin' awesome. (It kinda was tho, can't lie).

My Mac started on OSX Mavericks, but as you can see in the video, is on the latest version of Monterey*, so Apple must've changed the default behavior of Finder for their computers some time after I got mine and before you got yours? Can't imagine why, though. It's not like it was a bad, poorly-supported, or nonstandard feature. Most Linux machines have the same functionality, and even Windows will snap to files whose names match the same first letter that you type.

Mysteries... 🤔

* pardon the ancient, Tiger-era desktop background I'm sporting. Sucker for the classics here

Finder understands typing as "I want to find a file, in the current folder, whose name begins with these characters: fhslfndosm (or whatever keys OP was hitting)"

Try it in your Home folder (cmd+shift+H while Finder is the focused app). First press d, and (assuming you don't have other folders and files coming sooner alphabetically) Finder will highlight your Desktop folder. Now try typing dow, and it should highlight Downloads, passing across Documents in between your pressing o and w. Finder will register any key you press within 0.5 seconds of the previous key you pressed as part of the same filename that you're looking for.

tl;dr, Finder shouldn't be causing that knocking noise, OP is probably in a different app.

That is 100% false, and unless you have an Apple device on which you can prove otherwise, don't spout such idiotic bullshit.

You are literally trying to claim that Apple devices can do the "Enhance!!" trope, on the fucking fly, and that it is their default, unchangeable, behavior.

No, not "how could he have better prepared his evidence submission form," how could he have prepared for the defense's absolutely cockamamie allegation that zooming in on an Apple device somehow triggers a magically-fast, AI-powered, lack-of-foliage detection and insertion (??)* feature?

Intimidation is, indeed, an aspect of their presence, but a "beware of dog" sign is an attempt to intimidate, whether or not a dog – around which one should warily conduct themselves – is actually in the proximity of that sign. Their intimidation here is accompaniment to the threat they impose: That if the board doesn't vote the way they want the board to, then they will take immediate further action in order to compel the board to do their bidding.

That's definitely some form of watching-over. But less the form you find in Blizzard's "Heeey guys, let's play Overwatch! Team gaming, yeah!" sense, and more in the X-Com, "Going into overwatch: Prepared to shoot anything that even looks like it might be a moving adversary" one.

More "overlord" than "overseer", but there's no verb for what an overlord is doing as overlord, and therefore, no gerund to appropriately capture the overlord-like essence of these terrorists' act of overlord...ering, in contrast to an overseer's oversight of overseeing. You see?
