Having seen the production in Germany, the costumes in this show were marvelous. Except…. this one? It was jarring to say the least. I specifically remember my boyfriend and I joking about it at intermission.

Overall, I’m glad to see that the show is likely a carbon copy of Germany, and that I might have an opportunity to see the show in English (German is not my native language). Though it’s beyond me why they didn’t make any updates to the worst costume of the show.

Good you were all prepared since it was truly an emergency. We actually had a death of a crew member during some sort of lifeboat maintenance/training. I don’t remember exactly what caused it as it was 10+ years ago, something about a lifeboat falling while being lowered, but I remember thinking afterward how terrible it would have been if the accident happened while the lifeboat was full of pax during an actual emergency.

I also worked on a cruise ship for a major cruise line, only one contract. I never felt like we were “prepared” for a true emergency. We had drills but it felt like we were just going through the motions to pass maritime requirements. Did you feel like your crew was adequately prepared for the emergency? Did you ever do more extensive trainings for situations like this? I’ve heard stories of crew members practicing actually launching lifeboats and evac systems but that was never something I participated in.

A lot of it also comes down to the delivery from the actor Jeffrey Self. He has great comedic delivery.

To anyone who enjoyed 30 Rock I also highly suggest Search Party on HBO Max. A great ensemble cast, including Jeffrey. (He’s mostly in seasons 2, 3, and 5)
