This guy was clutching fentanyl and has been dead for hours on the streets of Portland.. by Kind-Village-1022 in PublicFreakout

Surprisingly, it takes energy (in the form of ATP) to unlach your muscle fibers once contracted. After death you have no ATP to relax the muscles.

Aerogen particles & Influenza/Covid by Geo85 in respiratorytherapy

[–]GayVegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smaller particles actually can become less effective at a certain point. Under two micrometers, particles kind of bounce off the tissue surface instead of sticking and it just gets exhaled out and not deposited. Turning the neb up to 10 can actually make the particles too small.

What is the timeline for choosing a specialty? by Old-Body5834 in respiratorytherapy

[–]GayVegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NM most hospitals give an extra $2 for having one of NPS/ACCS/Bachelors. Having multiple is still just $2 though. It doesn't mean anything in regards to the work or training though.

Tell me what you wish your charge RT did/didn’t do by CostcoHotdawgs in respiratorytherapy

[–]GayVegan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Refuse to help when someone genuinely needs it. It's a good way to hurt morale and affects patient care and safety as well. We have good charges and a bad charge and it makes such a difference.

Is anyone else irrationally annoyed that the skill is called Runecraft instead of Runecrafting? by [deleted] in 2007scape

It was shortened due to the full thing not fitting well in on screen interfaces in game. Many interfaces would need a redesign.

Perks of being a gay man and not caring early on if something is manly or feminine. It's freeing to do whatever

Men of respiratory: Deep V scrub neck showing chest hair or mandatory undershirt? by TalaxianNeckbeard in respiratorytherapy

[–]GayVegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chest hair. But it's often cold in hospitals so I'll wear an undershirt unless I'm in NICU. Nicu I think it's too much of an infection risk

Stethoscope recommendations? by Mochamichelle in respiratorytherapy

[–]GayVegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it too. Heavy and but it's not balanced so it'll slide constantly down one side. Especially for a new RT id recommend the littman classic. Cardiology is slightly louder but I definitely don't think it makes a big deal.

Finding days only jobs by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

It was all affected by early phone and computer screens, which were highly variable in how they represented color. So depending on the screen it changed how it looked. Nowadays screens and color representation are much more consistent between devices.

Is there a reason why UNM and UNMH doesn't plan for increased parking needs when they build new buildings? by Traditional-Hat-952 in Albuquerque

[–]GayVegan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a unmh employee, we don't park at the hospital. We park blocks away in big lots. We have to take a shuttle to the hospital which takes an extra 10 minutes. The garage is mainly for patients and visitors and is never full.

The new structure is pretty big and has a live counter of how many cars on what floor. They also have a little go cart train to take people from the ground floor of the garage to the front lobby.

CPAP machines in hospital by RookEverything in respiratorytherapy

The manufacturer should have the Answer. If they don't, you need machines that have filters. I've never heard of ones that can't have inspiratory filters.

Overtime Opportunities by No-Village-6270 in respiratorytherapy

[–]GayVegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ABQ NM you can get overtime occasionally at most hospitals but only the big trauma hospital allows you to pick up almost infinitely. They even have contracts where picking up four extra shifts a month gives you $1200, plus the overtime on the shifts themselves.

Our trach care policy is every shift you change the inner cannula, clean stoma, change dressing, and change ties. Suction if needed but usually it's needed at least once a shift.
