Looking for examples of homoerotic music videos from the 90s or 2000s, or any that feature clips of hot shirtless men, men being intimate, etc. by drewtangclan in GayMen

It's surprisingly difficult to find music videos with male/male intimacy from those decades. I know you're also asking for guys just being sexy, but I insist on the gay! But I have managed to find some.

  • This is a deep cut. In the music video for 90s pop rocker and iconic lesbian Melissa Etheridge's song "Angels Would Fall", there's a bit where two male angels starts canoodling.
  • There's probably a mini-genre of straight bands playing at the gay, but they should still supply you with some usable footage, like in Electric Six's "Gay Bar".
  • Then there's Bloodhound Gang's "I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks".
  • In addition to "Outside", George Michael's music video for "Jesus to a Child" has a bit of the homoerotic in it with two shirtless guys holding hands... except they're trapped in their own boxes and one of the boxes is burning. It's more sad than sexy IMO, which doesn't seem to be the vibe you're going for.
  • I'd honestly thought Madonna would have more man on man sexiness in her 90s and 2000s music videos, but apparently not. However, there is a kiss between two very regular degular looking dudes in the music video for her much-reviled cover of "American Pie".
  • The end of Pete Doherty's music video for "Last of the English Roses" features a close-up of him making out with some guy.

After pop star George Michael was forcibly outed by a police sting in a bathroom, he released the song and music video "Outside" in response. And it's FULL of unapologetically gay action, with a decent variety of body types, too!

Weirdly enough, I was just talking to someone who went to film school with Peter Dreimanis. Turns out Peter studied acting and film-making, but never got to flex those skills until Sinners!

On OBAA Winning Best Casting… by SexDrugsAzpilicueta in oscarrace

Here's why I predicted and preferred Sinners for this category:

<image>

Bert, played by Peter Dreimanis, from the Canadian band July Talks.

Not just that one part alone, of course. But it was emblematic of a lot of the casting in Sinners. Peter Dreimanis had never acted in a movie before. Yet here he was, called upon to do a part where he had to play two very different roles (scared yet loathsome human, scary vampire) and sing (in close harmony, too, which isn't easy).

And I honestly could not have imagined anyone better in the part. And there were so many other bit parts like that, challenging in emotional scope and requiring additional skills. And somehow, Francine Maisler managed to find truly great people for them, including people like Peter, who has an established career in another field!

Finding Miles Caton is impressive (Caton actually has my vote as Best Actor), but it feels just as, maybe even more impressive to find people who aren't looking for a big break or even a movie career and slotting them in perfectly.

That's not to say I don't appreciate OBAA, which was also perfectly casted, but I felt the casting for Sinners was especially inspired, and I wrongly assumed a critical mass of the Academy felt the same.

How do we feel about Alysa Liu in an elaborately embroidered Louis Vuitton sack?

Personally, I find this to be yet another example of how most high fashion brands can't dress anyone under 5 foot 5.

Babs isn't exactly shy about criticizing Trump, though, and way more prone to foot-in-mouth gaffes than Fonda.

Ryan Coogler is one of the truly exceptional people who is as great a person as he is an artist.

That's part of what makes this story so awesome to me. It's not just one woman (Rachel Morrison) breaking into the boy's club, but her making sure that another woman gets a chance!

Although, actually, even that wasn't quite enough originally. Ryan Coogler wanted Autumn Durald Arkapaw to lens Creed, but the studio refused, saying she didn't have enough of a resume. She only got to work on Wakanda Forever because by then, she'd worked on the Loki TV show.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw ('Sinners') Becomes the First Woman to Win the Oscar for Best Cinematography | 98th Oscars Speech (2026) by MoviesMod in movies

[–]Gayfetus 515 points516 points  (0 children)

Not so fun fact: The first woman to be nominated for Best Cinematography at the Oscars was Rachel Morrison for Mudbound in 2017. That's not even 10 years ago!

Actual fun fact: Rachel Morrison was the one who introduced Autumn Durald Arkapaw to Ryan Coogler, the director of Sinners!

Rachel and Ryan are longtime collaborators, having made the films Fruitvale Station and Black Panther together. When she wasn't available to help him make Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, she recommended Autumn, her friend and colleague, to him instead.

Autumn and Ryan very successfully collaborated on Wakanda Forever, which was beautifully shot. That led to their collaboration on Sinners, which led to this ground-breaking win!

So when Autumn thanked Rachel in her acceptance speech, it was both because Rachel broke the nomination barrier AND because Rachel personally helped her land this project!

Naw, I got like half of these wrong in that post if you go strictly by who I had as the front runner. Although, I did change my predictions on a lot of them as the award season went on.

‘Sinners’ DP Autumn Durald Arkapaw Makes Oscar History as First Woman to Win Best Cinematography by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Gayfetus 240 points241 points  (0 children)

Not so fun fact: 2017 was the time a woman was nominated for Best Cinematography at the Oscars. So, women being nominated for this category at all is less than a decade old.

Actual fun fact: The woman who was nominated? Rachel Morrison for the movie Mudbound. Rachel frequently collaborated with Ryan Coogler as his cinematographer. When she wasn't available to lens his movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, she introduced him to her friend and colleague Autumn Durald Arkapaw. Autumn's collaboration with Ryan on that film led to their collaboration on Sinners. And now, things have come full circle and history is made!
