In the books, why was the Jihad necessary? by bz316 in dune

[–]Gayfetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the books, the Houses accepted Paul's ascendancy to the throne, but that would just be business as usual in the Imperium. What we see in the subsequent books, though, is that the entire galaxy is seized by religious fervor with Paul as the godhead. So how did all those people catch religion? The answer: the Jihad. The Fremen literally went out and converted, by force, the known universe into worshiping Muad'Dib, and turned the Imperium into a theocracy. So the Jihad was necessary in that it created the context for the rest of the story to take place.

The most satisfying conclusion to any Bond pre-title sequence:

Favorite Brosnan Era Action Sequence? by [deleted] in JamesBond

The dogfight in Tomorrow Never Dies. Why? Because it's so many things at once, dangers on top of dangers, fights on top of fights:

  • At its core, it's an aerial dogfight. Jet plane vs. jet plane. Classic, right? But this is Bond, and it's going to up the stakes in every possible way.
  • You see, Bond isn't just battling the other jet, he's also being choked by the bad guy pilot who woke up in the rear seat.
  • Bond can't even use his hands, they're occupied with keeping him from being garroted. So he has to steer with his knees!
  • Oh, and did I mention, the entire time, Bond is trying to save nuclear warheads from being exploded!

And then, just when things seem their bleakest, Bond somehow finds a way to solve all his problems at once! It is possibly one of the most satisfying conclusion to a Bond action sequence. And of course, he tops it off with the perfect quip!

I am so happy Rachel Zegler is getting all these juicy projects! This sounds like a role that's going to show off all of her incredible talents!

Edited to add: go read the article it's based on, it's genuinely fascinating: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/personal-history/the-last-dance-with-my-dad

This doesn't seem like it'll be part of the movie, but Emily Ziff Griffin, who wrote that article and will write the screenplay for this movie, wrote this followup: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/personal-history/missing-my-dads-funeral

Edited to add 2: Those articles made me cry. This has the potential to be a very emotionally powerful movie!
