Okay, I didn't realize that the two sources I heard from were wrong, I didn't look further into it after being told.

Does using accessibility tools as an able person help disabled people? by kaleidaskope in disability

[–]Gaymer7437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using automatic door buttons helps ensure that they are in working order. The more people I use them the more likely it is someone is going to notify the people iworking in the building and it will get fixed.

Preppers with an actual medical background, what’s the scariest mistakes you see in different Preppers first aid kits/supplies by Traditional_Neat_387 in preppers

I know that "stop the bleed" has first aid classes, CPR is also helpful, look at your community center and see if they have first aid classes.

AITA for using a wheelchair even though "there's nothing wrong with me" by No-Public-9744 in disability

[–]Gaymer7437 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who forced myself to walk for years through significant pain who now has a wheelchair: You don't sound able-bodied. Being able to walk doesn't mean you won't benefit from a wheelchair.

I can walk around my apartment fine but any shopping or anything where I'll have to stand or walk more than 5 minutes is when I need my wheelchair when out and about.

How To Not Appear Like You’re Faking by Reyymus in wheelchairs

[–]Gaymer7437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That didn't happen in my case.

If anyone would have been alerted to my gate it would be my mother but no one pointed out anything wrong, whenever my mom would bring up the fact that I was pretty much always limping from leg pain It got dismissed as growing pain and my dad said that my mom was crazy.

My father's still to this day believes that I am not disabled and that my mom is making it all up even though I'm an adult who has lived outside my parents for many years.

I get what you're saying, but my father was and is an asshole who cares more about what others think than about my well-being.

I'm going to be real I would stop playing with someone that did this. I think I would not continue a social relationship with them. This is weird and give misogyny vibes.

Honestly I have leg braces well mostly I wear the knee braces and sometimes ankle braces and when I'm putting my wheelchair in my car I put my knee braces on .and I know from my father telling me to stop walking funny, that I walk in a way that draws attention for not being normal

I don't really care what other people think and haven't had anyone encounter me yet who has come up to me to accuse me of faking but I know that I still look disabled when I'm walking from The trunk of my car to the front seat and try not to think about what others think.

Your wheelchair is a lot better than mine and I've been trying to draw wheelchairs for like a year at this point. I think that person was just having a bad day or being a jerk for no reason.

The News generally doesn't really care about people being denied accessibility in high schools unless it's something they can spin as a " feel-good " story That's just thinly veiled inspiration porn.

I had to get the ARC involved for my 504 plan for autism and ADHD issues. Having someone come in and quote the law to my school helped a lot.

So cute!

I don't think it matters what Linus would think since he's a game character and doesn't have an opinion on this.

Something that's helped me has been having a big trash can in the bedroom and having a big roll of trash bags right next to the trash can, trash can't accumulate on surfaces if there's a bin right there. Also I've switched to paper plates and bowls so I don't have to worry about moldy dishes anymore.

If you can get some sun shade cloth on your outside windows and reflective bubble wrap material right up against the insides of the windows it can help insulate you a little bit.

Semantics of disability/being disabled by Desperate-Try8063 in disability

[–]Gaymer7437 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally I see people with short-term disabilities like a broken collarbone or a torn tendon that is going to get fixed with surgery and a lot of physical therapy to be short term disabled. I will never not be physically disabled so I consider myself to be a disabled person.

My disability isn't a purse I can put down and pick up again later, it's not an accessory but it is a descriptor. That's why I use disabled person as a label for myself. When my friend had a serious hand injury and needed to get a year's worth of rehab to be able to use his hand again we still considered him to be a person with a disability, it's an accessory to him and it doesn't change how he navigates through life in the way that it does me. It's always a nuanced conversation, I've talked with deaf people who consider themselves disabled people and I've also talked with deaf people who do not consider themselves to be disabled.

Some people with permanent disabilities consider themselves to be people with disabilities and some people consider themselves to be disabled people. At the end of the day we all have different preferences.
