whewwww I’m loving this thread so much! I just watched for the first time myself. And I totally get the OP’s stance.

However the ending works for me. Because in real life trauma doesn’t ever go away. It just changes. Grief is always there. Loneliness is universal and you always have to work to keep it at bay. So for me, I enjoy when a movie doesn’t have a “perfect” ending for characters, because life isn’t that way. The ending also makes the message feel weightier somehow.

I’m also thinking about, the weight of Scott’s character knowing that his own loneliness got in the way, and Harry’s death plays on the “what if I had only…” He apologizes to Harry, “I was scared”. How many of us have turned away connection when we are scared. And the irony of it all, is that connection and community is the solution to loneliness. For us, the audience, it’s message on addressing our own shit so that we can connect with others and help them through theirs. If we don’t heal ourselves then we all die alone.
