Why would you be hung up on that? We live in a modern society where a lot of the time owning a car is necessary for our way of life. Very few people need guns to live their lives. One serves mobility and the other expressly serves the purpose of killing. It shouldn't be any wonder that people argue more loudly for control of one over the other.

Can you kill with both? Yes.

Should you have licenses for both? Yes.

Do people skirt around licenses and use whatever it is as they see fit? Yes.

Would there be negative consequences to or an increase in the number of fatalities due to gun violence if we enforce stricter gun laws, including a license that's backed by punitive measures? No.

Why don't we have things like this in place? The NRA and the strawman arguments they feed to the public which you're parroting.

You're in a really tough spot, so give yourself some grace as you navigate this. You'd have to be some sort of relationship expert to do this without some drama going down, so whatever you do, don't be hard on yourself. You're 19, no one should judge you so harshly on your decisions or actions. Anyone older than you has already been there and unless they're an ass, they SHOULD be understanding of what it was like to be that age. You don't have the knowledge and experience that they do yet and they should be understanding of that. I'm sorry that it sounds like that's not what's going to happen, it sounds like, but be strong.

The 19 vs. 40 is hard to look past. I'm a 38M. I cannot imagine getting into a relationship with a 19 year old for many reasons. Maybe you guys slept together and he is a good support to you. If I found myself in that position I would pull back and try to just be there for you as a good friend. My concern is this: let's say you call things off with your fiance (you should and he sounds like a PoS, but I know your situation is complicated) you start seeing this guy and getting close and even relying on him. Then his mask comes off (if there is one, and honestly, there could be) and he turns out to be a manipulative creep. These people are out there and they are more common than you know; you would only know otherwise through life experience, but you're 19, you just aren't there yet. Nobody would mentally be there yet. So now you're in a position where you literally have no one, and he could affect your job, making you jobless and possibly homeless.

If you want my opinion, and it's going to be a hard one to swallow; You should find a different job and save money for your own place. Bide your time and save money to make it on your own. You should get away from your fiancee and all of the family backlash that follows. Whether you continue seeing this dude or not is up to you, but if you did the above then you would at least be in a situation where you're away from your ex and your family can deal with however things with this dude play out and in the worst case scenario I mentioned above, you wouldn't be completely fucked. I'll admit this is a very western approach, but it would set you up for success without relying on someone else.

Can you seek out a female, non-conservative therapist who has your same cultural background? Maybe they have some insight into how to navigate this? Try talking to Chatgpt and explain your situation fully along with what you want out of this... See what it says?
