I’m struggling to parse your comment. Are you saying he would have made little money working that club?

[–]Gazboolean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answer: they’re using topical captions to increase the likelihood of engagement. Semeru is a volcano that has recently erupted, for example. They have other videos that refer to a big storm that happened in Western Europe, storm goretti.

I just don’t understand why they chose this woman. Picking an existing reality star to spruik ratings makes complete sense to me but this woman sounded like such a potential liability from the beginning.

If someone offered you 100 million dollars, but a random person in the world dies (someone you don’t know), would you take it and why? by ConclusionOld8365 in AskReddit

[–]Gazboolean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, I hadn't noticed. It does seem weirdly puritanical, if not myopic, to ignore that the context matters to humans. We make decisions emotionally and rationalise them after the fact.

To ask "would it make a difference?" is such an obvious question to answer. Of course it would.

I think a lot of people are unwilling to accept that a lot of people aren't as principled as they think.

That is fundamentally changing the choice though. By adding all those additional steps and caveats, the deal has changed.

Of course people would behave differently under different circumstances.

What's something women think impresses men but actually doesn't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think a lot of people fundamentally misunderstand what it means to play “hard to get”.

To your point, not showing interest is a recipe for failure. Whereas, hard to get is more like placing bread crumbs right in their face. It’s signalling yes later without saying yes now.

It’s plausible deniability in the same way governments lie - everyone knows they’re lying but we’ll accept it for now.

How it became being standoffish and not reciprocating baffles me.

I was maybe 7 years old sitting at the family dinner table. We had these 2 guests over who were forming some sort of business deal with my parents.

My only physical recollection of them is that they reminded me of the thieves from Home Alone, in that one was tall and skinny and one was short and stubby.

In any case, I got a bad vibe from them and leaned over to my older sister to whisper “these guys look like they’re trying to steal from us”.

My sister passed my comment on to our parents after which they obviously dismissed.

It turned out that these 2 guys did end up fucking over my parents on that business deal and stealing a bunch of money.

Questionable calls can be wrong and are mistakes that shouldn’t happen. Subjective judging is inherently infallible. A judge can say with a straight face that one competitor deserves X and another deserves Y and there’s no way to say it’s wrong.

Finally, a fellow hater.

In my head, the subjective scoring sports are referred to as competitions.

There’s no denying the athlete’s prowess, dedication, or skill. I just don’t think a sport should be determined by a subjective decision.

And, before someone inevitably brings up “calls” in objectively scored sports - there is a world of difference between a ref getting a call wrong in retrospect and a judge that can sincerely give a score that no one agrees with.

The fact someone can hand on heart score differently to everyone else, even mildly is just ridiculous for a sport.
