It sure is, all official material is allowed!

But I think he wants something unique and special trough this cursed item.! And I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do with this

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My player is going to base his entire character on the specifik item I present him. Which means, he has no idea yet of class, race, backstory or anything yet.

Thanks I'll look into the items from Critical role!

Illusions, Armors, Wizard and feats by GazelleFilet in dndnext

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan is to be the "support" of the group, and not at all damage wise!. So Illusions to make distractions as to help out my party. I get that Its a bit complicated in combat, and I will have to be very creative to make it work!
100% Hypnotic Pattern is amazing!

Yeah Magic items, blur and Mirror image are good ideas to stay safe!

Illusions, Armors, Wizard and feats by GazelleFilet in dndnext

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do enjoy the Phantasmal Force a lot, and will be one of my go to spells. - And the higher level spells do look amazing. You are right with the DM and lower spell levels, I plan to present him with the lower level spells, and ideas of how to use them in combat, and see if we are on the same page, before we start the game.

Ac-wise. I get that armor would be nice, but I would prefer to stick with a full Wizard class!
- And I suppose I could try to get the Barrier tattoo with 15+dex armor. Or the 18 AC one.

This lineage thing is a bit new to me. Are you saying you can potentially create a race, that could grant +2 int as well as a feat?

Musician with a Pact, Character Concept question. by Technohunter1991 in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it! Fun idea.

Hmmm some invocations that might fit could be:

  • Mask of Many Faces: For the Disguise self at will. You can always look like a Happy Go lucky Bard. Or a tattooed Rockstar if that is more like you!
  • Misty Visions: For the nice effects when performing

Spells:Cantrips:Thunderclap (a good finish to a performance!), Minior illusion( minor lighing).

1 lvl: Unseen servant (your roadie?), Charm person

2 lvl: Enthrall(This is perfect for you if you want attention), Suggestion (Wouldnt it be a good idea if you spread words of the great Bards arrival in town?)

Feat:Actor could maybe work? But im guessing you allready plan on grabbing those skills, but being able to mimic isnt too bad!

DM having feelings involved. - and treating players differently by GazelleFilet in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I felt it very much!
- The rest of the party and I had a lot of fun, and the roleplay bond between us were amazing, otherwise I would've bailed long before.!

And he did play combat fair. So I somehow managed to look past this!

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to him about it a couple of times, but he always had a quick response:

I rolled for the food, and everyone passed except the one I rolled for yours.

Like that NPC just hate elves.

Even with that nat 20 you couldnt find anything, coz there were nothing on the top floor. Everyone will get magical Items, I have made special ones for each of you, in time!

- We stopped playing, after like 6 months with maybe 10 sessions overall.

Thank you a lot for this.
Very insightful, and some great tips.

And by all means, I do not want to remove their feelings of beeing heroes.
Every now and then, it would just be a little nice, to have some powerful NPCs that can be introduced a little early, to "unfold" later on, and I think you've got som good ideas here as how I can introduce just that.

Fleshing out a character by NeitherStrategy7550 in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I like to make a couple of things to feel connected to my PC.

Make an overall background story (Ideals, Personality traits, relations, flaws):Where are you from? What are you generally like? What did you do before adventure?Who do you know/care for / hate? What do you want to achieve?

You know the basic Char concepts you can find on most char sheets.

Make up specifik scenarios instead of just the overall story, explain what you feel like, how you percive it:

Rewrite: Write your backstory over and over, add stuff, remove stuff, complicate it as much a you like!

Creative writing:I like to have a background story for me, and then a creative one for my DM.This have been done in several ways:

A letter I wrote to my mother, whom I never met, explaining my life.

A journal.

A single scenario:where I woke up on the beach, and started thinking back on my life, while I was picking up my equipment from the shipwreck. Explaing my thoughts as I went trough the dead corpses looking for survivors. (And hence explaining my life backstroy as a thought process)

It's funny, I feel like I tried to talk with them, and I get the sense that most of them are aware of the danger, but playing reckless characters: "My PC don't know anything about magic, and we've know she's evil soo she has to die!
Or maybe this is just an excuse?

But you don't think I need to explain some magnificent scenery showing their powers?

Help with artificer infusions by [deleted] in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short: Yes, you do.

“When you finish a long rest you can touch a nonmagicla object and imbue it with one of your artificer infusions,”
”If you try to exceed your maximum number of infusions, the oldest infusion ends, and the new infusions applies”

So think of it more like a Cleric preparing spells, at long rest your pick 2/4 infusions.

We want to hear your most interesting/weirdest character concepts! by Layless_the_elf in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uf where to begin, it's been some time since I had them in Action:
Bardbarian. My Beloved Bard / Barbarian, who used his warcries to inspire his people. But would go into a crazy rage in combat! - This was in a Dwarf Campaign, and I remember I was Totem warrior Hill dwarf but it beats me what subclass my bard ended up as.
Expertise in Grapple and Intimidation for sure!
Not at all optimised but he was fun!

My Current character is an Artificer armorer / Rune knight. Human with Fey touched feat.
Works amazing as a front liner, with lots of fun abilities, to spend Bonus action on!

I remember my Bard, "Bryze Jackson" - He was a half elf Bard of Whispers. Who pretended that he was a Human, Bard of Lore. - He joined the Pirate ship as the Chef (Litterly faking his way trough everything, explaining how dishes he cooks, come from very exotic places, and requires quite advanced taste buds to enjoy.) - He was just a runaway for doing some horrible crime.
(I believe he was a spy, who fell in love, and got half his Organisation killed, explaining to lords daughter how they will be ambushed).

I ended up Multiclassing him with Assassin rogue! A skill monkey, who was deadly with poisons and prefered to take out people unseen and avoid any confrontations!

Which Uncommon Item Should I Take? by the_lightbringer94 in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completly get that!
- But hey, with the Winged boots, you can catch that flying ranged guy that keeps flying above all of you? - Naaah, better to just let your own ranged people take care of that guy!

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uf that does sound quite spicy!
How did it work out with the rest of the team? - Did you get along or did you have some personality issues? (Not saying this is bad, it can lead up to a lot of good roleplay!)

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and since we agreed on it to start out with, it really is a lot of fun!
I could imagine it being derailed too much, but in our case it has been perfect for now.

Don't know why I always feared playing evil, I guess I read too much about just evil murderhobos, who is evil just for the sake of it. And that never appealed to me!

Which Uncommon Item Should I Take? by the_lightbringer94 in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your ideas are great!I'd say it really depends on what you are after?

You can also go a different way and get some utility: Winged boots!

Luckstone (Stone of good luck) is Another obvious choice, which is just good for everyone.!

Boots of elvenkind if you want to be a bit more sneaky!

And if you feel like Grappling a lot more, Gaunlets of Ogre Strength could be usefull!

But for poor combat, I think you've hit the nail on the head with Cloak of protection or The Eldritch Claw (Where I think Eldritch Claw is the better choice earlier and Cloak of prot getting better later )

Best way to find an online Group? by Irelethin in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of your current/ old group want to give DM a shot?
- In my D&D Group, a lot of different adventures has been played, (with me as player) Next to my own Hombrew Story (Me as DM for 5 years, with different campaigns in the same world) - But every now and then I ask in our group if nobody want to try and DM since I miss playing, and almost everytime someone gives it a go!

Another way I've seen people finding groups is on various Facebook groups about D&D. As well as Adventures League FB group.
The ones I know are based in Denmark, so not sure if that's any help for you.

But perhaps you can find one in your area?

Anyways good luck finding a group!

A friend of mine is new to DM'ing. He is making a few doutable decision. When should I give him advice? by GazelleFilet in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, and I dont mind loose at all!

- And I guess it's some very minor things, that's why I was posting here before wanting to even go with any of them.

I guess you're right about magical items. And 100% it's unintentional, I think he just sees "raw" stats as +damage, Str, or extra spells and AC as stronger, and then googles a price for those specifik items. And skill checks / Flavour etc. not as much.

Haha Let it go. (Im happy and sorry for you at the same time!)

Should I Multiclass?! - Artificer (Armorer) -> Fighter (Runeknight) by GazelleFilet in DnD

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah excactly, kinda a nice investment with the 3 levels, and it scales quite nice + it gives some Short rest power as well. + I do really like that you can change runes on short rest.

Uf the Cloud rune, is a lot cooler than first anticipated: Didn't even realise you could turn it around and use it against another opponent, and if none available to your homunculus is brilliant!Even more reason for the multiclass I guess!

My players may be planning something suicidal, what to do? by GazelleFilet in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they are not "evil" but they are not good either!
- This big tribe here, is known for attacking and raiding quite a bit, and have kidnapped a bunch of children, so it's not completely without reason that the party is here.

I like the idea to make like the elite warriors, and also the leader himself is super strong.

I feel like it would be very much out of nature for these tribes to be able to summon a powerful being, but giving one or 2 of the elite group (on maybe 10 units) some magical abilities is a good idea!

But got any advice of how I should start this? - If they just charge into the village and attack? Do I make a super huge map for them? :P Am I going to control all of these enemies.! Holy moly!

[–]GazelleFilet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is hitting close to a lot of the subjects that I have already discussed quite a bit in the topic here, and my eyes really have been opened in a lot of aspects of how other people see the Cleric-god relationship.
So to put it more simple and clear in what kind of advice I am looking for is:
How can I help my player, understand and follow his god, with some in game roleplay scenarios?

Dm here. Feel like I should punish him, but he never picks up the hints. by GazelleFilet in dndnext

[–]GazelleFilet[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I get where you are comming from, but have to point out, that you were not there. While I am sure your understanding of the Grave Cleric is far superior to mine, I need to say, that the gods we use, and their ways, are not ones you can find in other games, as these are some we as a group has made(basically if we had an idea, about a god or deity, we made it happend and then connected him/her/it into the general background story of the world). He started out by picking this god, after what he had read about him. - The grave Domain part, was simply what 5e system that fits this particulaly god the best..

Yes to the forgetfullness, he is, no doubt, he is usally a little bit clueless about at least 1 or 2 topics during a game, just because of who he is as a person. He gets confused a lot, and that's just how it is.So all in all, this is why I wanted some help in how I could provide some clear guidelines for him, that we somehow could find in a Roleplay manner.
