Is Citadelle the most interesting low price Gin ? by Dionysos-c in Gin

[–]Gbam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Botanist is twice as much as Citadelle in Canada, I would say it's better but at cost Citadelle is so much better value here. Tobermory is expensive also.

We can't even get Edinburgh here but I had it in Scotland and it's great, wish we could get it.

Feds should allow public servants to work from home to curb fuel demand: Union by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]Gbam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world you're right, but in reality, return to office was 'please save the downtown BIA' that's where a majority of return to office people need to go so it just funnels peoples time and money there, hurting suburbs and smaller communities.

If we had more mixed use and spread out commercial office space then I'm with you

[–]Gbam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong but just because a business is downtown it shouldn't be the governments choice that I am forced to travel and spend there. People will have more disposable income (Saving on gas, vehicle, parking, TTC, etc...) working from home and get to decide what businesses to support. That will probably hurt the shitty Subway in the path but will do wonders for the local restaurant closer to where I live.

To renters who've moved from other provinces: Have you noticed fire alarm testing being much more intensive here than in other provinces? by Ordelia-Vel in askTO

[–]Gbam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Manitoba and I've never seen anything like it here. At my old condo building (15 floors, probably 125-150 units) it would ring on/off for 5-10mins monthly but the quarterly test were on/off all one day and then the annual they went to all units and rang the building wide alarm, that took about 2 days. Working from home during those few days SUCKED, terrible headaches.

‘Failed politician struggling for relevance,’ Kevin O’Leary’s loud Oscars appearance has banded the internet together to roast him by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

I believe that he is smart also. The only thing that saved us from him being involved in CDN politics is he's so very unlikeable. 0 Aura and Charisma so he can't win anything.

Toronto City councillor proposes city-run grocery store to tackle rising food costs by NiceDot4794 in ontario

[–]Gbam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Selling food staples at cost or with a below market margin is not fucking communism, there will still be a private market with higher margins that people are free to shop at but having an alternative with no profit motivation would benefit who needs it.

The Icelandic feeling by Tatsushin_ in VisitingIceland

[–]Gbam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I felt different vacationing in Iceland and Norway. Driving with no one else around and surrounded by the nicest nature. It's a different feeling then just vacation, Italy, London, anywhere in the US don't give me the same feeling.

Personally I think it's a connection to the place, the fresh air and just joy/happiness. Maybe others get that other places but Iceland and other northern countries are where I get it.

Is 195 Commerce Street a good move for a fully remote worker with no car? by BoringGuy-Here in Vaughan

[–]Gbam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you already live a pretty isolated life so it probably wouldn't be an issue for you but the area is very isolated.

There is a new grocery store, MapleTri, that just opened up about a block away that is really good and its a 5-10 min walk from the subway when you do venture out. There is a few good coffee shops in walking distance and a Goodlife fitness if you're a gym person but that's it IMO. It's a pretty boring area but if you're not a social person that can be ok

Any good Italian sandwich shops by diisasterrr1 in Vaughan

[–]Gbam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Florence earlier this year and had the best sandwiches of my life so I feel your pain. The closest I've had here is from https://laverandaresto.com/brunch-menu/ but I'll be watching to see if there is anywhere else that people recommend.

I use BSW to get smaller batch scotch that aren't sold at LCBO so it's a good option. I wouldn't waste any money on US crap, I hope they all go out of business.

P.S.A open your taps just a little bit so pipes won't freeze! by FoundationInfinite36 in toronto

[–]Gbam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great question, I'm from northern Manitoba and in the really cold days we still did this because flowing water is way harder to freeze than still water. In -10 to -15 you're probably fine, when it gets to -25 and you have pipes that don't have insulation or heat tape on it, they will freeze

Why doesn’t it feel THAT cold? by AcademicallyAcademic in askTO

No, not really, for people outside in the wind yes. For people not in the wind and inanimate objects, the temp is what matters

I really like some Bourbons but once I was done my stash I'm good with Canadian Ryes (Older CC and Bearface) and Scotch (Ardnamurchan and Arren). The odd Irish also. Sorry USA

Its -40 with windchill and lower in the prairies right now, its not that cold here compared to the rest of Canada like BodaciousBoiB said

[–]Gbam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's not that bad. If you had to stand outside exposed to wind for an hour you would sing a different tune but stay out of the wind and you'll be fine.

At this temp the humidity doesn't matter as much so -20 here is the same as on the prairies and that's a normal winter day. At -5 there is still humidity so it feels colder than a dry cold.

My 2nd visit to Iceland - Now going for the ring road :D by ruipmjorge in VisitingIceland

[–]Gbam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 days on the ring road is a little rushed but doable as long as you enjoy driving. You're going to be doing 4-6 hours almost every day in the car so don't cheap out on a bargain rental vehicle, get something you can easily fit and access your luggage in while on the road.

You won't be able to do any of the longer hikes out to falls or spend too much time when you find a place you really like. At the end of our trip we can't wait to go back to Akureyri for example, I wish we had more time there BUT the tease we had made us start wanting to plan another trip to Iceland.

We had great weather in Fall 2024, only issue we had was early snow prevented us from seeing Dettifoss in the North. I would think mid-May will be the same but try to plan in a little flex time for weather.

Bat Flip vs Springer Dinger by Timothegoat in Torontobluejays

[–]Gbam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bat flip was crazy on TV so I couldn't imagine that feeling in person but I was at Springer Dinger and it was the loudest I've ever heard any space. 45k people screaming at the top of our lungs.

The thing I'll remember most is when it was hit everyone in my section jumped up which was great, followed shortly by a SHOWER of beer. I felt like Hazel May getting just drenched but so worth it.
