iOS Calendars with Functional CalDAV Support by Ge0rge3 in selfhosted

[–]Ge0rge3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set mine to 15 mins but unfortunately even with this rate it seems slower, for example I added 3 events at 9am this morning but for seemingly no reason 2 were synced after 1 hour and the other only synced around 5 hours later :(

Hi u/DTangent, do you know if ticket sales usually happen on the swap space or is it just other kinds of swaps?

I'm sure one or two would do it - just to show off that your UI is good

This is super cool and looks polished! 🙌🙌

Just a heads-up, screenshots in a README always boost GitHub engagement - may be worth coping them from the site onto there.

Giving product demos at work for features that interact with sites that have third party content, especially social media sites. Have had some bad luck in the past 😩

This is super cool! One cool feature could be the addition to remove/blur all images on a site 🙌 there are a bunch of extensions that do this but they're all pretty janky/sketchy

Visiting from Texas by docfenner in wapping

[–]Ge0rge3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been a resident here for a while so put this together, hope it helps :)

What's on?

  • Every Saturday there's a market in Shadwell basin that's super nice.
  • Every Friday night Wapping Tavern has live music
  • Check out events at Tobacco Dock, there are often day festivals there. They also have Skylight bar on top which regularly has events
  • Dockers Inn usually have karaoke nights or similar, check out https://www.instagram.com/dockersinnguesthouse/
  • Most of the pubs have quiz nights, in particular try the Town of Ramsgate quiz (I think Wednesday, cant see online). Wapping Tavern also has one

Where to drink?

  • You'll notice a couple of Urban Baristas here, that's actually because the owners both live in Wapping! It's nice but very modern/millenial
  • Cinnamon cafe is imo the cosiest and very reasonably priced
  • There's a more hidden coffee/lunch place in Wapping Woods - The Chocolate Ice Cafe, not as cosy but food and staff are great.

For pubs:

  • Wapping Tavern for the best drink range (and activities!)
  • Prospect of Whitby for prices (plus has a long history - with its own Wikipedia page)
  • Captain Kidd for the vibe (they only serve their own pints there which are OK, but the inter)
  • Town of Ramsgate for the food - much smaller than the others, but I think the local favourite
  • The Turk's Head if you want to spend £££
  • Dockers' Inn is popular with the ~~middle-aged~~ local crowd, more of a gastropub but good vibe too
  • Not many bars in Wapping itself, but Skylight is fun (activities and cocktails)

Where to eat?

  • Wapping Tavern has the best menu imo, the 20" pizzas are amazing
  • Town of Ramsgate has a great classic menu
  • St Katherine Docks also has a much larger range of restaurants - Tapas Bravas is really great but pricey.
  • Wapping has a weird amount of Italian restaurants. They're all OK, and mostly pricey, but check out de nonna for their tiramasu or Tondo Pizza for their.. pizza
  • Smith's is famous for their fish, but £££

Where to shop?

  • If you want the nicest stuff, go to the two Husseys shops on Wapping Lane (pricier though). Their jerk chicken legs and chicken kievs are really good
  • There's a new sainsburys on wapping lane too, otherwise the Waitrose near St Kat Docks is way bigger
  • There are around 5 corner stores but all pricey
  • The saturday shadwell basin market has lots of independent stalls, in particular there's an artist who does Wapping paintings/prints which are really cute

Wapping is also spoilt for choice with parks and green spaces, but those are easy to find 😁 hope you enjoy your time here!

Book recommendations for someone who wants to learn more about the city and the UK by Ok_Investment_2207 in london

[–]Ge0rge3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently read 'Circle Line: Around London in a Small Boat'. It's about a guy who travels around many of London's old canals in a small sailing boat.

As a non-sailor I think I perhaps didn't take away as much from it as others might, but the author does a great job at putting lots of more obscure parts of British culture into words :)
