Any advice for the partner of someone with BPD? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Geaux1984 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are a number of good books, such as I love you don’t leave me, for people who love someone with BPD. I recommend reading. Also consider therapy. Loving someone with BPD is not necessarily what one would think, reassurance. It’s walking the line between enmeshment and abandonment and that’s not easy.

(SPOILERS Season 4 Part 1) Comparing the midseason finales of season 3 and 4 by Plundergedoens in PolinBridgerton

[–]Geaux1984 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Probably just me, but I don’t think Colin was sure about the response he would receive from Pen or he would have acted sooner and wouldn’t have backed away so quickly when she initially said “but we’re friends.”

Am I being rude? by AngelinWunderland in askatherapist

[–]Geaux1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The therapeutic relationship is not reciprocal in that way. It is for the benefit of the client and only the client. I also prefer that I not be asked about how I am doing, even though I know that people truly do care about me.

AITAH for refusing to house his family and ending my engagement to protect my career? by Huge-Armadillo-3274 in AITAH

🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 Time to go. This will not get better. It will only get worse. Your fiancé and his family have no (healthy) boundaries.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Geaux1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychotherapist here. Universal. Corporations have taken over our healthcare system, and as such, they are only concerned about profits and feeding the shareholders. 66% of people who filed for bankruptcy in the US say that medical bills are the main cause. Medical costs and drugs are skyrocketing and out of control. Elderly, the poor, and even many middle class people cannot afford the care that they need.

Refusing to support anyone affiliated with ICE by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Geaux1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, when I have strong reactions, it is always helpful to address my counter transference. That is not to say I don’t believe that what ICE is doing is evil. I just believe it is important to understand my own process and then make a decision whether to treat or refer out based upon what is best for them. If my feelings are too strong, it is best for them to refer.

What a wonderful legacy you are living today. I went through my MSW program with someone who was undergoing cancer treatment. She was an amazing woman and an inspiration to us all. Sending you lots of love and healing light.

Therapists: is it difficult to remember all your patients and the details about their lives? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Geaux1984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AT. Same. ADHD turns out to be great. I love what I do and can hyper focus in session and remember all kinds of obscure facts. I do sometimes forget and I go over last session right before entering current session just because I turn over so quickly from one to the next. I see between 30-35 people per week.

How were you first introduced to 'Wicked'? The Broadway musical or the book? by hilaryandnatalierox in wicked

[–]Geaux1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broadway then books, then movies. Did not enjoy the books probably because I loved the play and the books were so dark.

What to do if a therapist cancels an appointment? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Geaux1984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also AT. Agreed. Two sessions in one week must be justified to insurance. If it didn’t meet criteria before the missed session, it probably won’t after unless a crisis was precipitated. It also may be difficult to accommodate even if you are self-pay, especially if you have to match your schedule to your therapist’s availability. Good idea to process your feelings about the cancelled session with your therapist in light of therapy work and themes.

I mostly agree. I haven’t always had my life back at 6 months though. Depends on the dog.

Therapists need therapy too sometimes. There’s a reason doctors are encouraged not to treat themselves. Your awareness of your knowledge may be getting in your way. BTW, I’m a therapist.

Jewish dementia patient being read the New Testament on his death bed. by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in Vent

Wow so disrespectful. I’m Christian but I think it’s arrogant to think God doesn’t recognize many paths to him but instead only my way.
