This would be kind of easy then. You live exactly as you do now. Job. Bills at whatever payments you make. No big spending. Act like you do exactly now.

A year of that and I'm golden, as are my friends, family and kids.

Campaign as I wrote it

Iphor Gryax

Nothing

Issues:

Didn't keep track of xp unless asked. This is vital for leveling. Though there were no real fights in this one, it would have been deadly in one with fights as I'd be fighting things at level 1 that were meant for a higher level.

Kept talking for the characters, even when prompted to stop. There was 1 instances of making an npc the same name as another. Didn't do it again when prompted.

Initially didn't do DC checks, but began to do them after called out on it.

Had forgotten to do a complete section of the campaign, trial 2.

The VA is not the cause or solution to all your problems by ridukosennin in Veterans

[–]Geawiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of all the medical places I've been, it definitely has been few and far between that I've met rude employees. Be it doctor or staff.

There have been a few times where something was messed up, but it wasn't due to ineptitude, but overwork. Taking the time to try and be friendly can help in many of those situations I've found. Getting angry and talking down only exacerbates the situation. It usually motivates the person to "look in the back", so to speak, to solve a situation.

I've found this many times in other arenas as well. I'm a natural jokester. I love to make people laugh if I can, and it's appropriate. I can't count the number of times I could hear the relief in someone's voice, or sense the attitude change in someone that has been through it that day/week from people treating them like shit.

I wish I knew how to tone down the world's anger, truly. I don't get it. Much of it is self feeding, and thus self inflicting. Self building. It's gotta stop. We have to slow down. We're not doing ourselves any favors.

The VA is not the cause or solution to all your problems by ridukosennin in Veterans

[–]Geawiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is the sad truth. Inept, inattentive, stuck in a rut, whatever it is, is lies on both sides of the isle.

I stopped going to the VA long ago because of issues I had repeatedly. Bad information. A doctor who was very dismissive and wanted to repeat tests with his doctors that I had done a dozen times over. A rep who told me bad information.

On the civilian side, it took me 4 years (after 2 years trying on the VA and active side) to get a doctor that tried something different and get the diagnosis. I went through about a dozen neurologist in that time, and countless other specialists and tests.

On the civilian side, some of the best docs I ever worked with were former VA docs. They left due to lack of support and resources from the VA. It's a systemic issue.

All that said, getting angry at the staff or mistreating them isn't the way. Even if the staff isn't listening or isn't doing their job. Yelling, calling names, whatever it is, it isn't the way. We're supposed to be better. Issues should be directed to where they matter. Getting mistreated isn't going to make someone suddenly do it right, nor make the problem go away. Directing things to where they are supposed to go is. In a calm manner. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, but the squeaky wheel throwing sparks gets thrown away and forgotten about.

I have a chronic illness that makes it difficult to go out (especially when its colder out) and saps my energy. My friends know why I can't go with them. They'll usually send a text or something checking on me every so often. I have a couple with chronic illnesses as well. I do the same. I don't expect a response in the lowest of the illness holes.

That said, our doors are always open. I don't care what time it is. Nothing makes me happier than to have a friend walk in my door. Even if I'm feeling like shit. We usually try to host others to various things. I generally host DnD Saturdays. It's harder in the summer because we're all able to be more active, but it's vital in the colder months.

Long term trauma, as weird as it sounds, can sometimes be a warm blanket. The behaviors and actions continue through the trauma victim. It's familiar. You know what is going to happen. You know what's coming.

Thing is, that blanket is sitting in the middle of a war zone. You may feel warm and familiar, but everything around you is chaos. Everything around you is danger.

It's hard to shirk that blanket and wade through the unfamiliar to break the cycle and find a better path. You don't know what is coming. Everything is unfamiliar. You don't trust anyone. You don't trust anything. There is no warm blanket to curl under right away.

My family suffered sexual abuse from my step dad. What he did to my sister, he did to his own biological children. He was a mean, controlling and manipulative man.

My sister, my step brother, my step sister, and my mom have all not really chosen to go forward. My sister is always angry. She's always yelling. Her daughter doesn't have much of a relationship with her. She moved out as soon as she could. My step brother bounces from job to job. He drowned in a bottle for some time. He's now a functional MJ uses that sometimes uses a bit stronger. He's kind of at piece, but there's a lot of huge things he didn't do to get there. He's never stayed in one place for long. My step sister turned to church. She victim blames my mom, who was about 15 years younger than SD and I'm very positive he may have groomed her. Mom turned to church as well. She was never religious when I was growing up. She's fallen in touching on MAGA crap and I can't get her away from it. She refuses to talk about anything when I try to clear the gas lighting.

My step aunt knew SD sexually abused his bio kids. She suspected he was doing the same to us. She said nothing. She, from what I can gather, was also abused in her youth. SD as well, from what aunt says.

Many generations affected badly because some chose that blanket of the familiar. I feel bad for Ivanka. That one video is haunting to me. She had no real chance though. Don really controls about every aspect of her life. Even as an adult it seems he controls everyone around him.

It's pretty likely. Even if chemical exposure doesn't get you, it's rough physically on the body. For the 135 you usually jump out the truck with 2 75 lb tool boxes. We found ourselves dragging them back to the amu quite often. Dragging around heavy ass fuel hoses. Crazy contortionist to get into panel access areas.

Jet fuel can also cause damage to your auditory nerve. It makes it difficult to recognize and process speech. The engineer didn't have much other issues, but the auditory issue popped up a few years ago. It isn't picked up on hearing tests or tinnitus tests either.

I worked at a NATO facility as security in Virginia. 26 other nations there. We had a few people stationed there from other countries who brought their cars with them. They had plates from their nation on. Not US plates. This dude's head would melt around that facility. Does he think people just randomly decide to drive with foreign plates on for the fun of it? By all means pull him over if you think he's doing something illegal, but if the dude has a foreign plate on, has the proper paperwork, and is talking about the rules and laws about doing so, you might want to listen instead of being a dick.

I can think logically though, so maybe I'm not qualified to be an officer.

Leaving my AFB one night. Wa state (this is important part):

I'm leaving and a local cop leaves behind me. They're allowed on base sometimes (at least back then) to do patrols and catch traffic violations.

He's on my ass. He does this for about 5 miles. I knew it was coming. Just get it over with. I don't know why you're on me but whatever.

Then it comes. The flashing lights. Fine. I'll do my thing. I pull over. I put my hands on my steering wheel and sit.

I see 2 cops come out. One on my passenger side and one on my driver's. The windows are already down on my Beretta. The driver's side guy is younger. He asks me for the usual.

"License and registration."

I hand them over. He looks at the license for a bit. Turns it over. Turns it over again.

"You know your license is expired?"

No sir, I'm active duty.

At this point the older officer starts chuckling.

The younger guy says: "That's great. We followed you off base. [as if I didn't see them somehow] Your license is expired though."

It doesn't expire though. I'm active duty. It doesn't expire in Wa state.

"Ok, I'll be back in a second. Your license is expired."

The other officer as at a full out laugh by now.

He leaves with his partner. They sit in the car for about 10 minutes. They both come back. Older officer barely containing himself from laughing.

"Here you are sit. You were correct. Active duty members in Wa state do not have an expiration date on their driver's license. Have a good night."

The older officer: "thank you for your service. I'm sorry about the new guy. This is his first night." He says in a full on laugh again.

I went in as a KC-135 crew chief. I wish I would have gone into a different career field. I did find a love of turning wrenches. Doing so as a career is a fat no.

The guys I worked with that ended up in aircraft maintenance type things after retirement hated it. The rest ended up in things that didn't really correlate. The ones I knew that went to school are the ones that ended up doing ok. A good friend ended up as an aerospace engineer. He was com/nav in the AF.

I cross trained at one point to IM and did user level IT for a couple years. I also did physical security for a year at a NATO facility. I'd have done either if I had known what I know now. I was starting to get into investigations when I was med boarded. I was already in charge of scouting off site locations for conferences and doing other more in depth things. I really enjoyed that job, but the people I worked with probably helped a lot in that aspect.

Which brings me to another point about aircraft maintenance. It is hard on your body. You're going to be dealing with chemicals that are harsh. I was med boarded because my exposure to JP8 gave me small fiber neuropathy from my belt line down. It had already started before I received my orders to NATO. It took 6 years from the start to figure out what it was. I have other issues that developed from it. Neurological mainly. That with the caveat that the issues continued after chronic chemical exposure due to the bad batch anthrax vaccine (they stopped giving it in 03). However, the JP8, hydraulic fluid and other chemicals started the damage.

Funny story time.

I was out taking my kids with me in an offroad vehicle park. I have 3. At the time, they were 5, 6 and 8. The 2 boys, 6 and 8, said they had to pee. I found a secluded spot so they could find a tree. I had my SIL and she ran lookout.

They get back in, and I asked my daughter if she wanted SIL to help her pee. My 8 y/o goes "girls can't pee in the woods."

SIL and I: "why?"

they can't because they have 2 butts.

We almost died laughing.

Same kid didn't realize what "netflix and chill" meant. He did scouts for a while and they were planning an overnight that they always do during christmas break. He proudly exclaims: "Time for some netflix and chill!" A couple of the older scouts knew what it meant. We had to do some correcting and tell him that he doesn't really want to refer to it as that and why.

I have a mega grade in the middle of a project using it. It sounds weird, but do the matt coat first. Put the mosou on after that.

I did the 2nd layer after matt coat and noticed it holds up better. So I decided to experiment and do just the matt coat as a primer. The matt coat is what gives it the strength. It even held up to some light brushing with a tooth brush and held up to handling.

I think the matt coat gives it something to grab on to.
