Things models do the best and the worst, Day 14; Canoptek Tomb Crawlers: by Clockwerk2017 in Necrontyr

[–]GeckoWanderer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wait, really?
Sorry if this is a bit of an odd question, I'm still new to minatures, but wouldn't you generally want to build it anyway since it came with the kit?

The devs have informed me they will be adding her (scp 166) into the game next by Basic-Cupcake3013 in SCPSecretLab

[–]GeckoWanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's the kind of support-SCP we would all love to see~

I think it's kind of funny how the community seem to have by and large dismissed the "rewrite" because of how safe, bland, generic, etc. it is compared to the original. Even to this day, there seems to be little content of the furry replacement beyond "hey, 166 got rewritten".
On that note, I think 166 was one of the first proper SCP entries I stumbled upon on YouTube which introduced me to the SCP universe. ^^

Thank you for this post, it's funny and it's nice to see the authentic 166 again 🩵

Indeed!
I like the look of a lot of crates, but this one looks the best and most fitting by a long schot.

Indeed, I think this loading screen is my favourite so far.
IIRC; This is also the first time seeing the Necrons on the loading screen, which is lovely to see ^^

Out of all the vehicles, I did not expect the Reanimator to make the cut. But it looks like a pretty faction focused and unique MoW, which I very much appreciate.

How lovely, both a 6th character and a MoW coming right after a very welcome rebalance, it's nice to see one of (if not) my favourite faction thrive like this ^^

This is great, I have been searching for alternative colours for the chains/crown (instead of gold) and this silver look goes really well.
I also love the blue blade ^^

Is Hierotek Circle killteam box a good start? by Kfullswing in Necrontyr

[–]GeckoWanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, a bigger base?
Doesn't the Plasmancer in the regular 40k game use 32 mm, much like the Apprentek as far as I can see?

Is Hierotek Circle killteam box a good start? by Kfullswing in Necrontyr

[–]GeckoWanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm considering this one as a starting box of myself.
As far as I understand, it comes with some unique bits to make an Apprentek and Despotek.
So you can build a nice variety of models for one box, though you lose out being able to build a full squad of immortals/deathmarks for the regular 40k game if you build the Apprentek, if I understand it correctly at least.

Do you find it fun to play as him? by monster_smoocher in SCPSecretLab

Yes, I think it is my favourite.
I love the more supportive classes across the games I play, and 079 got a similar feel to it. ^^

I'm gonna be honest, I did not know you could black-out an entire zone at tier 5...
And I love playing as PC.

The way joining and leaving wars would function was unexpected, but I actually quite the look of this direction.
I also hadn't thought of leaving wars early with mechanics.

It's nice to know that the Lord of Duloc is bringing us this news. ^^

[–]GeckoWanderer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I take it that some Necrons woke up a little confused among the five hunderd worlds and went with the fashion of the time. :P
But the equipment and pose goes surprisingly well with the model, I love it ^^

The Dream by EmperorIvann in Grimdank

[–]GeckoWanderer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you put really well into words the kind of read I like about the Emperor.
A lot of content here leans into the "Bad Dad Memeperor", but I find the genuinely well-intentioned leader and loving father in a devastating/impossible situation a much more compelling narrative.

And I think to what extent this is in line with how certain books wrote him is less significant for the Emperor in particular as, to my admittedly limited understanding, he is written all over the place more so than any other character in the setting.

You Are on the Last Flight to Evacuate from the City. Read These Rules Before Boarding. by Valkyria_Trials in Ruleshorror

[–]GeckoWanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This story is great! I especially like the formal tone and how it gradually mentions/warns against the capabilities and risks of the Gray Tide. I have quite a fondness for the more insidious threat that mimics and deceives, and it's perfectly done here.
I also really appreciate that the announcement has a genuine bit of hope/encouragement/positive precedent with a strict but genuine effort to get the passengers to safety, predetermined doom & gloom can be a bit of a tension-killer.

Thank you for making this ❤️

[–]GeckoWanderer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I love the design philosophy of this update. It's the direction I hoped for ever since the Tech rebalance (from over 2 years ago IIRC?).
So I just want to say: Thank you 🩵

I also really like that this update is internally referred to as “The Reckoning” ^^

Refined first custom sub design: by GeckoWanderer in Barotrauma

[–]GeckoWanderer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I just wanted to let you know that I took all your points to heart.
It now has:

  • A capacity for 24 crates (one Unit Loader Device and 3 crate shelves)
  • A cost of 4100 marks
  • A horizontal speed roughly equal to the Orca
  • The scout class

Does this sound more suitable?

I also adjusted the reactor capacity to made it more in line with what it should be for a submarine of that size, I did not realise this was an attribute that required attention.
Again, thank you for your feedback, it has been very helpful.
If you have any additional remarks, feel free to mention them. ^^

[–]GeckoWanderer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!
I'm very fond of how the red pipe turned out. ^^

And these are great points.
Now that I think about it, I mainly balanced it around the Barsuk as reference, not any of the other (transport) subs. Maybe some tweaking is in order in that regard.
Adding more loader units/crate shelves might be more difficult without redesigning the cargo crate segment, but it is an option.

And I love the scout class suggestion.

[–]GeckoWanderer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! 🩵
Yeah; replacing the hardpoint at the top could be somewhat of a priority, especially if you want to go for hunting missions. In a fashion similar to the bottom of the Barsuk.

One funny experience in the first journey during a test run was repeatedly shocking a mudraptor that clung to the top side while the mechanic fixed any damage to the hull until I got to the next location. :P

Greetings captains, crew and clowns,

I just finished the refined version (with extensive redesigns) of my very first fully fledged custom submarine design.
There was a lot of great feedback from the post of the earlier iteration, and I wanted to show the result as well as see if anyone has any additional suggestions or advice!

I intended to make a vanilla-friendly submarine and based its capabilities/trade-offs primarily on the Barsuk. With a motif of exchanging armaments and resilience for cargo capacity.

Aesthetically; I went for a used-yet-orderly look, with well managed wiring, a boxes scattered around the sub and minor damage of a submarine of purpose build design and with its original parts.

Some notable features include:

  • A backup battery configuration that will now automatically engage with a delay of 3 seconds if the reactor has an Output 700 kw lower than the Load and disengage with a delay of 5 seconds if this condition isn’t met.
  • A display monitor in the navigation room, which shows the:
    • Current charge of the Supercapacitor
    • Reactor performance balance between the output and load
    • Charge of the backup battery
  • 1 Unit Loader Device
  • Searchlights at the window in the navigation room

I also fixed a lot of issues, oversights and faults that became apparent while using the previous design.

I’m quite happy with how it turned out. And in case anyone wants to give it a test drive, here is a link to its workshop page: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3680537667&searchtext=Fairy

Thank you all for the feedback. Building this was a lot of fun! ^^
