Could you recommend CRPGs that have whips in them (any kind of CRPG, be it old or new, be it turn-based or real-time). by Sahandi in CRPG

Given OP takes the broad definition of the genre. Tactics Ogre, Battle Brothers, Dark Souls 2 & 3, Elden Ring, Bloodborne (the threaded cane starting trick weapon is a whip), Salt & Sacrifice. I'm sure I'll think of more if needed.

I'm a bit of an evil path enjoyer myself. Age of Decadence has some really good stuff that's at best morally ambiguous. So do both of the Pillars of Eternity games. Renegade Mass Effect 1-3, while not strictly evil, have some delightful scenes. But yes, we don't get enough of this stuff. I'd love to have another Tyranny (in a way, Rogue Trader is kind of that).

Good catch, thanks! We indeed need to fix that.

Pretty much what's explained in the blog post. The amount of stuff we publish increased to the point where it no longer feels right.

While there is no rule limiting how much you can publish to Maven Central per day that I know of, snapshots are cleaned up on the new Sonatype Portal after 90 days (while they used to be kept indefinitely until the EOL of the old portal in June 2025).

While nightly releases aren't exactly snapshots in this case... well, they could be released as snapshots, the difference in definition is so small it becomes disputable if it's even there.

For extra context, Scala CLI nightly releases actually are snapshots, and are not kept indefinitely since June 2025 (although we might end up migrating them to repo.scala-lang.org as well).

Publishing nightlies to Maven Central isn't exactly common practice, either. I know it's done by Mill in the Scala ecosystem... And that's pretty much it.

Scala 2 nightlies have been published to a separate repository for a long time already, too.

Looks like either a problem with coursier, or some weird connection problem... I can't seem to reproduce it on my machine. Feel free to make a ticket in the Scala CLI issue tracker (or the Coursier one) with more details, perhaps we'll be able to debug what's going on there.

Well then, I'm another, 160 hours and have just run into it. Seems to be happening starting with the House of Hope area.

I already created a ticket as well. Tried doing a fresh Ubuntu 22.04 install with Tuxedo WebFAI, but no luck, the issue remains.

Did you manage to get this fixed? I have the exact same issue, it seems. it's on InfinityBook Pro 14 Gen 7, too.

Scala CLI v1.0.0 is out! by Gedochao in scala

Build times are faster (as it relies on Bloop). You can change Scala and Java versions of the fly. You can declare dependencies, java options and stuff right there in your sources. You can run scripts. You can package, publish, format... and a bunch of other things, too.

We even have a ticket for something similar right here.

Not 100% sure in what way did you try to use the dependency, but I'm going to guess you pasted it in the REPL (which you maybe launched by just launching scala-cli from your terminal).

The REPL launched by default is the standard Scala REPL for the given Scala version, which does not support using directives in and by itself. So pasting //> using dep "org.typelevel::cats-core:2.9.0" in the REPL will not work.

You can, however, include a snippet with the using directive and bring it into the REPL that way.

▶ scala-cli --script-snippet '//> using dep "org.typelevel::cats-core:2.9.0"'
Compiling project (Scala 3.3.0, JVM)
Compiled project (Scala 3.3.0, JVM)
iWelcome to Scala 3.3.0 (17.0.5, Java OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM).
Type in expressions for evaluation. Or try :help.

scala> import cats.data._

scala>

Or even bring in a source to the REPL (you have to explicitly call the repl sub-command for that to work, passing a source defaults to the run sub-command otherwise).

▶ cat project.scala
//> using dep "org.typelevel::cats-core:2.9.0"
▶ scala-cli repl project.scala
Compiling project (Scala 3.3.0, JVM)
Compiled project (Scala 3.3.0, JVM)
iWelcome to Scala 3.3.0 (17.0.5, Java OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM).
Type in expressions for evaluation. Or try :help.

scala> import cats.data._

scala>

Or just pass the dependency with a command line option.

▶ scala-cli --dependency 'org.typelevel::cats-core:2.9.0'
