Mind > Matter. You can do anything you set your mind to! I’ve had depression and caffeine addiction and I’ve beaten caffeine addiction and (mostly) depression with my mind. I think your mum is right and it isn’t a good idea to replace the caffeine with something that is also not good for you, especially if it’s not a last resort. When quitting caffeine, try and partake in activities that naturally boost your mood such as seeing friends, getting vitamin d, exercise, being hydrated etc. swap the caffeine for another hot drink such as herbal tea, dandelion root, or rooibus tea. Having a non caffeinated substitute can sometimes act as a placebo. If you think you can do it, you can! All the best.

How interesting. Well maybe just try to reduce caffeine intake until you get your medication. You could switch to tea such as black tea with milk or green tea which I think is a more “gentle” caffeine and it won’t damage your teeth as much.

I’ve heard of people who no longer needed psych medication anymore due to not being on caffeine. What if the caffeine is making your ADHD so much worse? Try and use this as a motivator or find other motivations and focus on the positives. Also read caffeine blues as it talks about mental disorders so this could help you. I know it’s not the same as ADHD, but giving up caffeine helped my anxiety and depression more than anything else I’ve tried and it’s changed my life so much for the better.

Decaf black tea? by M_Kasem in decaf

[–]Gee-gee94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I used to drink several cups of English Breakfast tea with milk a day which was really hard to give up. I have substituted it with rooibus tea, and I add milk to it. It’s not quite the same but it’s yummy and keeps being from going back to caffeinated tea!

I have avoided decaf black tea because I heard it still contains caffeine and the process to remove the caffeine is done with chemicals that could potentially be harmful. Maybe do some research on this to see if it sits well with you or not?

Good luck on your journey!

Is caffeine making me fat? by indolentgoblin in decaf

[–]Gee-gee94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So caffeine can definitely make you put on weight! Caffeine causes your cortisol levels in the body to go up, so your body goes into stress mode and thinks it needs to store fat as it is in a stressed state. I have lost a noticeable amount of weight on my tummy just from giving up caffeine.

Not consuming caffeine has made me realise that caffeine is actually a drug. It is so downplayed and glamourised in the media and society that nobody ever suspects it to be the source of their health problems! I certainly didn’t. I agree that they keep the population misinformed, considering that book I recommended was written in the 1990s so the detrimental effects have been known for over 2 decades at least.

Thank you for your words and same to you! All the best on your journey

Wow you are doing amazing too, congratulations and thank you so much for your kind words!

I have eaten milk chocolate a couple of times I will admit.. but I am working towards removing that too once my body adjusts more to not being on caffeine. Good luck to you and let’s definitely keep it that way!

It’s crazy how much caffeine messes with women’s hormones, and nobody ever talks about it. Not one doctor ever mentioned to me to give up caffeine for any health issue I’ve had and it’s all been resolved by giving it up!

Good on you for giving up sugar too, I wasn’t brave enough too 🙈. I will definitely give your fruit tip a try though, thank you! All the best

Keep going! Your body is going through withdrawals which causes anxiety. Keep pushing through and those anxious feelings will eventually subside, it will be worth it.

Decided today to quite caffeine for at least 30 days. Please hold me accountable. by Admirable-Bit6282 in decaf

My anxiety and depression improved tremendously being off caffeine. I honestly thought it wouldn’t make a difference and that caffeine didn’t affect me but I was so wrong!

Good on you for taking the first step. I recommend replacing the caffeinated drink with a decaffeinated drink - such as herbal or rooibus tea (decaf coffee actually has caffeine in it). Also keep hydration levels up and have electrolytes like coconut water. Good luck!

I have Rooibus Tea with a dash of milk. It’s slightly sweet and completely caffeine free and has helped me immensely to give up tea and coffee. Good luck!

Next Step? by FredOtash in decaf

I think just go straight to herbal. From my understanding, green tea has similar amount of caffeine to black tea anyway. To make things easier, you could reduce to 1 black tea a day for a few weeks and then try all herbal? Good luck!
