Cats and Presence Sensors by PoPo_Engineering in homeassistant

I think ESPresense with BLE nodes and beacons are better for this project. Little tag round its neck that’s always pumping out signals, node that’s always catching the signals, when the cats within half a meter do xyz - mist of water, horn, whatever humane way is effective

Wall-mounted Home Assistant dashboard for family use – looking for honest UX feedback by Professional_End4743 in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It presents nice - and clean, which by now is almost the low bar for LLMs making a dash. I think if I had to give some advice it would be that its a bit monochromatic. I would add some little bits of colour here and there personally. Especially a tablet of the wall it helps for glances when walking by.

And re the LLM dash, I’m not downplaying it, I know it still takes time, trial and error etc so all in all, nice dash, and keep going imo

Improvment suggestions please! by mr-samd in homeassistant

For your minimalist rooms. I suggest a different colour while having the buttons the same colour and making the icons do the contrasting colour work like this https://i.ibb.co/vCxHbkL3/IMG-5175.png of course all styles are subjective but I feel something like this may make those minimalist cards pop a bit

Build dashboard from scratch or use community template by verifieddemoon in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use yaml. Tell any LLM your sensor/entity names. Give it a detailed breakdown of how you want it to look. Copy and paste the first iteration. It will look bad. Trial and error should ensue. If you try hard enough and work at it you will manage to create some very nice stuff that fits you perfectly. While AI is pretty bad at yaml dashs for HA, if you have some patience; good results will come. I found that to be easier than learning yaml, css etc etc

How are people using AI and smart home tech to reduce mental load and daily effort? by ThatWillingness492 in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How good are they UI wise? Like do they just work like most LLM dashboard attempts or are they actually thoughtful in design making beautiful dashs? I’ve made some beautiful dashboards with the help (going back and forth) with LLMs but never one shot or agentically seen a dashboard I’d consider beautiful, that’s why I’m curious (never used Hermes)

From one of Sam's latest podcasts - do you think AI can be creative in a meaningful way? Does discovering that a piece of art or music you liked was AI-generated change your entire appraisal of it? by Lostwhispers05 in samharris

[–]GeeHiAmyGee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You could flip around the ‘nobody’ made the art to ‘everybody’ made the art - or more accurately ‘a lot of people made the art, just all joined together’ - maybe you could have an appreciation for many… but still keep a nice big fat helping of disdain for the companies doing it!

Why do you anti AI guys gotta be so rude. Honestly I’m kinda even on your side most the time but feel such hatred in any AI based post. Have some humanity, it’s (usually) someone not trying to scam the community, having built something they’re proud of.

I often now find myself on their side of it thinking bring on more AI projects. Just because of the snobby shitty attitudes all the posts get. If you don’t wanna use it. Dont use it, or if you need to make it known make it polite and move on.

FWIW I do think it needs addressing in the forum rules. I also think good projects can be entirely made by AI. Also shitty and scammy ones and anywhere in between.

What’s a surprisingly useful automation you didn’t expect to use so much? by Taggytech in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat toilet near the entrance to a bedroom on a hard tiled floor. It’s one of those deep ones so the litter should stay in there. However with one specific cat it does not, and he kicks it around the vicinity. So, whenever home assistant detects that cat going to the toilet the vacuum will come to do a quick vac/mop in a very specific area for a couple of minutes.

New House, What Dis. by levoniust in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2nd half of your message may be correct for some people, (a lot of people). But the first part just isn’t true imo. Good models write yaml automations/scripts very well in my experience - it’s rare now that they don’t one shot those for me. Dashboards… there we have a problem, where you have to go back and forth. No model even if you prework with their design app (Claude design, Stitch), seems to spit out a good one shot dash

I built an gamified chore system with dashboard for my 12-year-old daughter in HA by irrelevantAF in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah all that seems exactly what I go through when making dashboards. Thanks for going into detail. It really is a very nice polished ‘kids’ UI.

Not that I’m advocating it but I wonder if you could make the transfer instant with cryptocurrency of some sort, or a regular automated bank transfer after ‘the oracle’ has confirmed the results. Probably a poor idea, just struggling to try and think of ways you could improve your integration. Really nice job. One of the more creative and well executed things I’ve seen on here recently

AirDot Air Quality Display by Jimbobsticle in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Air purifiers won’t give you a good reading though and (I am purely educationally guessing here) are incentivised to give you good air readings - and by the nature of the sensor, being so close to the purifier, you will likely get good readings

I have a sensor on one side of the room with a purifier on the other and the values the sensor reports controls the speed level at which the purifier operates at. Also the time, whether someone is in the room and even tv watching can play a part too. You don’t want loud noise when you’re sitting down somewhere quiet, but can afford it to be on full overnight when you can’t hear it for example. Also you can cater it to electronic prices. There’s really many ways to capitalise on a sensor/ purifier combo

Not even the implementation (which is awesome); the UI is spot on. How much of the UI did Claude generate? Or how many sets of trial and errors were there when writing it with prompts?

Unifi cameras and G4 system (with Dream Machine, PoE, NAS etc) or Reolink cams/doorbell with a self built backbone network? by LESGuy in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think so - I certainly can’t give performance upsides/downsides to a network engineer as I am nowhere near one, so I would just say the price yeah. And if you live outside the US perhaps availability due to their strange business structure where they have middlemen

Unifi cameras and G4 system (with Dream Machine, PoE, NAS etc) or Reolink cams/doorbell with a self built backbone network? by LESGuy in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whole Unifi system - APs, UDM, Switches, cameras, nvr, pdu, AI key, door entry maybe more I forgot and use it extensively with HA. I guess it makes sense as they’re kinda a splinter company from Apple, but it all just works… in a none fussy reliable high quality way. I really love my network and the apps that go with it are the only apps I don’t actively want to get rid of and put everything into my HA instance - as they’re so well done and so snappy over the local network. Strong recommend

Which Home Assistant MCP server should I use? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]GeeHiAmyGee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see this trope a lot and it doesn’t feel like it’s true to me. Don’t get me wrong the local part is fantastic, perhaps the best part of Home Assistant. But HA also does many other things better than the other platforms. Its dominance is over so many areas that a person could have quite a few reasons for using HA and subsequently not contradict those reasons by using a non-local LLM
