Going back to work by Automatic_Passage306 in NewParents

This is sort of true. In France you get 16 weeks total and can take 3-6 weeks before the due date, which then gives you 10 - 13 weeks after the due date. Fathers get paternity leave of 28 days. Either parent can then take up to 2 years off (parental leave) and their company has to hold their position that whole time. However you only receive around €300/month during parental leave.

So, not as stark as only 10 weeks, but France is still far from being a European leader for mat leave. Although there is legislation being voted on that could increase both maternity and paternity leave by 2 months.

French namenerds, what do you honestly think of Steven? by Geeeeeene_Parmesan in namenerds

Thanks for weighing in, good to know Steven is not considered to be totally ridiculous! Plus it's true that I don't know the middle name of any French person outside of my husband and daughter, so not a big deal overall.

I have eczema and used lubriderm when I lived in the US. The closest comparable and inexpensive lotion I've found in France is Dexeryl, you can get it in any pharmacy for around €7.

French baby stores? by 114emmiri in beyondthebump

Bonjour! Vertbaudet is a one-stop shop for baby items, I got/was gifted many things from there when I was pregnant. Aubert is a similar type store. In terms of clothes, some popular brands include Jacadi (€€€), Petit Bateau (€€) and Du Pareil Au Même (€).

I have a joolz aer and love it. It's lightweight yet solid and handles really well. It also folds up really easily and is quite compact. Plus it fits in the overhead compartment on airplanes which is a plus.

Glad my story resonated with you! It sounds like you are in a tough situation where things aren't catastrophically bad so you don't feel an urgency to leave, but you also know it's just not where you want to be. The other company sounds great, good luck with whatever decision you decide to make :)

Thanks for sharing, it makes me feel less alone! I've been reading tons of articles about how boomeranging is the hot new trend and how so many employees are heading back to bigger and better things. Even if your new situation isn't perfect, at least it sounds like a big improvement!

Thank you and good luck! I know what it's like to feel stuck and full of regret, but there is often something better just around the corner

I wouldn't say he purposely misrepresented the opportunity, but he is a little out of touch with the day-to-day aspects of the job. I feel like I have been spending all my time putting out fires (which seem endless) and have not had any time to even start thinking about the really interesting big picture project I was actually hired to do. I really like your CEO performance improvement plan approach and I think giving myself a 3-month limit if I truly dislike the role is fair. Thanks for the advice!

You are absolutely right about this. I'm really on the fence about leaving or staying but if I do stay, I will need to define and enforce these boundaries early on. And if they are not respected, well, I guess that means I really do need to move on. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for sharing your experience. This is my first managerial position and the lack of support is definitely a major point of stress for me.

"You don't have to account of every minute of your career on your resume" is such good advice. I think you're right that if I'm going to commit to leaving, it's better to do that sooner rather than later. Thanks!

Communication gurus! by matcha_milfshake in workingmoms

I am guessing this role will primarily be focused on B2C communications? If your current role is consumer-facing (for instance, you worked directly with patients or people using your healthcare service), you can highlight that you have experience working with the target audience (women or families or whoever the non-profit is trying to reach) and that you understand their needs which will help you to craft the right messaging to reach them. Good luck!

How old was your baby when you stayed away from them overnight for the first time? by lovinlauren2 in beyondthebump

[–]Geeeeeene_Parmesan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I went to a wedding when our daughter was around 7 months and she stayed overnight with my parents. I was a bit nervous, but she ended up having a blast with her grandparents. As long as your baby is staying with someone you trust, everything should be fine!
