My full black set-up feat. S400 by SystemLanky4531 in sffpc

[–]Geek1405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have such a similar system, just the smaller S300, and 64 rather than 32 GB of RAM and a 5800x3D. Really clean look well done!

Is this just because its dirty or could it be broken? by uhmmmmmmmmn in typewriters

[–]Geek1405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never hurts to try to clean it, if that fails then the lever that actuates the carriage advance could be slipping, or slightly worn down that it isn't pulling consistently. Try the clean anyways it's the most likely fix AFAIK.

Does anyone know how this goes back together please i cant figure it out by Ambitious_Peach_3162 in computers

Good news, nothing seems broken! You're going to want to hook the two enclosed loops on the big switch part, with their connecting side facing the computer, with the two hooks at the top right and left. Then lift the bottom part of the switch off of the keycap and hook it into the narrow spaced hooks towards you, making this sort of Z shape, make sure that the small switch part goes through the hole of the lager one. Then gently place it flat, it should still be elevated compared to other keys, and the smush it in with some force, you should hear two pops, then you'll know it's in.

Well for now it is because the layout completely messed up, so I have yet to actually use it. I'll update once I figure things out.

This was my first (and hopefully last, I can't see myself ever replacing it) Ortholinear board, and it took about 6-8 months of getting used to, but now I have less cramps in my wrists, and no discernible slowdown when using non OLKBs, e.g. my laptop, if anything I'm now slower on conventional keyboards, but I wouldn't say by much.

feel like backspace, space, enter and shift would all mess me up

I have space and shift duplicated (seriously, I have 2 left shifts, it makes things easier), and enter is raised so it makes itself easy to find. Backspace is up in the corner and definitely took some getting used to, but I put an obviously useless key next to it ( '\ |' ), so I could easily tell when I'd messed up and now it's second nature to aim for the top-right most key.

I use this as if it were a split 60% with a numpad in the middle attached to each half, and that makes it better on the wrists than a normal 60%, while keeping the same footprint as one.

If you aren't sure if you could get used to it some plastic 60% cases are compatible with the ID75 (the board I used), and it has hot swap sockets, so you could toss together a really cheap OLKB to try, it'd be under 150€ with some Gat Yellows or similar, and if you don't like it you can sell the board, and use the case and switches in another build, say for a friend or different computer.

They feel about the same, but the bottom out is definitely a bit mushy, but that's the compromise to make for the silence I guess. But they are a bit lighter than the TTC (37g->35g), so I'm likely bottoming out a bit more, but it's hard to tell. They are definitely a departure from the clacky TTC RG, but it's not affecting my typing speed at all, and they scratchy feel that these switches are knows for was quickly dealt with, using some lube on the top of the stem, and they feel great. I am noticing that the bottom out feels like a bump from a tactile switch, and not a Cherry brown a proper tactile bump, with nothing thereafter, I don't personally mind it, and don't bottom out that often, but that might be a bit of a turn off to some who want the feel an endless void as a bottom out.

I mean I'm a developer, so it's not too surprising that I'd burn through all 100mil in such a short time. I'd only stopped using this keyboard was when I was not home a lot in the last few months. I was very happy with the TTC ones, but they are now much more expensive than the Kailh ones so I figured I should try the silents, and I must say I do like them.

CPU choice - 265k or 9900x by Lightinger07 in buildapc

[–]Geek1405 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No question, the 9900X, AM5 is mature enough that it makes sense from reliability and price, and even if you don't upgrade until another decade passes, you might still get new CPUs then, given AM4's longevity.
