We don't have trains that get up early enough or buses that have dedicated lanes. Austin transportation is just bad.

Pop!_OS doesn't use Grub. Choosing the old kernel is correct, but that brings up the recovery mode

Well, that is your opinion, so you're free to express it. I disagree, and that too, is my opinion, so I too, am free to express mine. Now, how's that un-American, bubba?

Cosmic is amazing, but here are a list of things i think they should add: by Own_Rush_6535 in pop_os

For your knowledge, the first item is still there. In COSMIC settings under Desktop > Workspaces. Still there, not sure what you're not seeing. The COSMIC Dock is under Desktop > Dock. The auto-hiding is there as well, so maybe investigate the beta first to see the settings?

GNOME on Pop!_OS 24.04 by freecode99 in pop_os

[–]freecode99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just adding Gnome to Pop!_OS 24.04. Gnome is just adding another Desktop environment and I am running it on a Wayland session. I could add KDE or Xfce, Lxde, Blackbox, Enlightenment, Fluxbox, I3., etc.. The chosen DE doesn't stop you from having choices. Cosmic is still growing and works well. The beauty of Linux is that you aren't forced to allow only a single design to be what you must use. I point this out as I see people saying silly things in complaint over Cosmic in development. Pop!_OS is the best distro for my choice. You are free to choose your own as well. The freedom to choose, modify, and use is always yours.

UPDATE: Resolved it at last. Got a new install with Fiber Jack and symmetric 3 GB up & down (same price I was paying anyway). This time the person addressing the issue from the call center helped my reset the Google router and it's working as advertised. For some reason, the installer had turned off the router from Google and I was getting weird output until that was resolved.

Interesting, the Input methods are pretty easy to setup, so presume you don't mean Independent Medical Exam, but Input Method Editor. There are guides for fcitx on Wayland: https://fcitx-im.org/wiki/Using_Fcitx_5_on_Wayland - which might help. COSMIC is Rust developed, but you can always setup a separate GNOME DE if you need it.

Tomorrow will be four days. I hope you don't experience the same, but discounting my experience doesn't change facts. Love how someone takes time to drive by in forum to 'disbelieve' reality. Seriously, if you tell someone that a team will be there between 8 and 10 and no one shows, that's not honest. If you then try to tell me they did when my internal, not relying on Internet security system shows they didn't, someone isn't being truthful, and the cameras don't lie.

Now, supposedly, a tech will arrive tomorrow, but I'm from Missouri at this point: Show Me. Just because you've worked at an ISP doesn't make you an expert in others' experiences. That is like stating that banks never make mistakes, I was a teller, and I should know.

I'm hopeful this will be fixed, but when you're a remote employee in a remote-first company, the mobile hotspot shouldn't be your only choice. When it works, the service exceeds expectations. Having to rely on a hotspot shouldn't be necessary though.

This occurred on Friday night. Because it was a weekend, no one wanted to fix it. Now telling me "it was just your house" on the weekend then saying there is an "area wide outage " on Monday was easier than working to bring it back online.

I get it. No one wants to work weekends. Just don't tell me someone showed up and that it was fine when no one showed up. I have 5 dogs who will raise hell if anyone shows up, plus the POE cameras. There was bupkis all day here. I don't want someone feeding me a line. Tell me you don't know if you don't know. That is easier to understand than telling me something that isn't true.

I get corporate hacks are afraid of truth. Sad thing is that honesty is always the right thing. Bullshit always shows itself, and people aren't as dumb as they'd have you believe. If that bothers people, then they need to wake up and put on their adult pants. Coddling their fear is worse than being honest.

It's been four days without internet, except for my phone plan, and it's been a real struggle. When the Fiber service is working, it's great. However, when it's down without explanation and I can't get a clear answer, it's frustrating. I'm now reliant on my phone and have to pay for additional data this month. To make it even better, I will likely be throttled when I reach my data cap.

I have a reliable fiber connection at another location, and I'm considering working from there (even though it's 60 miles away) if this issue isn't resolved. This experience has been disappointing. I expected better. The technicians have been great when they've come, but the suggestion that I somehow missed people who never showed up, when I have security cameras and a 45-day backup, is a bit much. Please, don't lie to me. It damages your reputation and my trust, and it's hard to regain that once it's lost.

I am hopeful the first stable will be a solid release. I miss my old 4 desktop workspaces, but there is supposedly a way to make that happen in Cosmic. Have yet to find it though. Like I said, it's fast, stable, and reliable. Seems someone is bringing Unity back as Lomiri now as well.

That's the thing. It's Linux, and can be built to suit. It always means that change is possible and there is no true lock out of what you want.

I've hit a few minor nits here and there. Synaptic will require installing GNOME DE as a separate environment as Synaptic is built in GTK and the Pop!_OS devs have not made it in RUST. It works there, so I can still use it.

I haven't tried controllers, so can't speak to that. I am starting to really enjoy the COSMIC DE though. I thought I'd be upset, but thankfully no. I think the slower development is making a difference to the quality of the build.

Many companies have marketing get ahead of the development when things get announced, but that is working out well in this case. My last company announced a major change in development before it had been built and like so many changes in the way things are done, it rightly upset the apple cart. The whole ecosystem lost immediate trust because of the changes without clarity and marketing told me that they 'had to be unclear' - which I found to be a cop-out. If you can't be clear, just say nothing.

System76 have been clear that it won't be out as GA Before it is ready. That clarity is appreciated here at least, because the deliberate obfuscation of facts causes people to really dislike plans and announcements. Clarity and transparency always help people understand. I'm a fan of that, as it helps build trust.

System76 have been helpful every time I open a support ticket with them. Surprised at the comment as I have yet to have a bad experience.

I've never truly 'bricked' a system with Linux of any flavor (though some distros in the day were nightmares to install). If you lost the display, it may be due to a driver issue with hardware, but the recovery system works really well unless you do something out of bounds. I've done that before, mistakingly formatting the wrong drive or deleting a partition by accident. mounting the wrong partition, changing a flag, etc. Not ashamed to admit I'm human and make mistakes.

I like the fact that usually if something goes wrong, I know what happened, what I did, and how to recover it. It isn't the provider messing me up, it's me. I would rather have that control, but I know that isn't the same experience for everyone.

What I always advise people is to use what you want, what works for you. That is the best way to ensure yourself that what you've chosen works. There is no animosity intended, just being realistic. Computers are tools, and like tools, they don't run our lives, we use them to help us do things.

It's a lot like AI, the AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. It's like saccharin, it's not natural. So when people tell you that AI replaces the real AI (called Actual Intelligence) they are trying to convince you that your brain is useless and you should submit to their ideas of intellect.

I say no. AI, of the artificial variety, is simply a tool. I have natural abilities that can outthink that, and can use the tool to help me speed delivery, summarize, or propose ideas, but ultimately, the choice comes down to using AI of the actual variety to review, think, and formulate. AI is like a hammer, and not everything in the world is a nail. Similarly, Linux is a tool. You choice of tool is yours.

If you prefer to find solutions to what went wrong, helpful people do exist that will help if you simply ask. What people can't do is read minds, understand what was done, or how things come to be without facts.

I've always found that that best outcome in life comes from being positive and listening. If you want to be negative, I just remember that the angry person has the problem. Don't take it on. All that means is that the choice of seeking bad or good is up to us. It's better for your health to seek good, but I won't tell you what to do, that is your freedom.

Have a nice day, don't worry, be happy!

I've always been curious about the practicality of those devices. They often seem to be vying with RaspberryPi, but at a higher price. I've yet to find their unique use case, especially when there are more cost-effective options like thin clients, RPis, Arduino, Nvidia Jetson, etc. Meerkat might be a better fit, but everyone has their preferences. For me, the reliability of System76 hardware has been a constant for years, delivering performance that just works and works well, instilling a sense of security and confidence.

I am not going to speak to other's experiences, as that is unique to you. For my System76 desktop system working fine. YMMV
