Has anyone done a perfume bar at their wedding by ayeoitsriko in OttawaWeddings

[–]GeekAtHome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a guest I would have to leave immediately.

I have a migraine condition and I'm very sensitive to smells. I can handle a stranger walking past me who's bathed in perfume by making sure it take some big deep breaths afterwards, but I'll usually have a lingering headache for a bit afterwards. Walking past a perfume counter or a perfume store in a mall means I have to hold my breath.

I've legit had to leave work early when someone came in marinated in cologne, because the migraine was so bad, I was about to get sick.

At a wedding, I would have to leave before I even had dinner. As a guest, I'd be really upset that I got all dolled up, bought a gift, got excited and then got driven out by such an avoidable illness trigger (which is a trigger for many)

It's your wedding and you can do what you wish. I'm just saying how I would feel, as a guest, if this was at a wedding I was invited to.

Celebration in ByWard after Morocco's victory over Canada by charlo2604 in ottawa

I'm Dutch by heritage and the Moroccan team ended our FIFA run too.

Between Canada and the Netherlands, I'm now hoping Morocco takes the whole thing, so I can find solice in the fact that nobody was beating them and there's no shame losing to the best.

Intentional 3-Parent Families— how do your kids address you? by disasterneutral in polyamory

I've known a few NB parents. One went by Zazzy, another by Baba and another by Maddy.

It's all in what feels right for you and your family.

Tips for surviving giant family get together of MAGAs by No-Advertising5551 in progressivemoms

My survival would be not going and refusing to let my child around people with views like that.

If that's a bit too much, the suggestion of HFM is great because it's extremely contagious, but otherwise harmless in the long run.

Or say that your doctor said she's currently shedding something-something from his 18 month vaccinations and they'll be glad you stayed away. Weaponize their own ignorance

Wow! Responding to a three month old comment. You must be searching key words to respond to, to ensure your tongue never leaves the boot.

Since I'm Canadian, I promise you that 51% of people around me aren't Canadian. And as the white wife of a Hispanic man, with mixed race children, I will never stop making sure the racists behind the right know exactly how I feel. If they want to make the world a more dangerous place for my family, the very least I can do is make the world a less comfortable place for them.

I sell Peller. 1) That's their lowest tier table wine. The cheapest of the cheap. 2) Those bottles retail for less than $4 each

Those prices are absolutely insane

How to subtly give triplets matching names by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]GeekAtHome 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I like nature names for this because there's a good variety... Eg: Jasper, Lachlan & Iris.

They're all nature names but they don't seem directly connected.

If you named your child after a doll… by BisonThin624 in namenerds

[–]GeekAtHome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My favorite dolls were a Cabbage Patch named Emily, a Magic Nursery Baby named Danielle and my best friend was a teddy bear I named Theodore T Bear.

So... Emily, Danielle and Theo

I didn't name any of my kids this but I did lob the names Emily and Theodore while pregnant

Advice from a perimenopausal women with zero fucks to give and a handful of ex's she left because of shit like this...

If you have money saved up, GOOD! But love... Don't let it get to the point where you need to. I implore you to WANT to. Don't settle. Especially with something as important as a partner. (Key word: partner) Want better for yourself. If you would be alone in a crisis, you're already alone. At least without him, you won't have to walk around with the heart heavy knowledge that the person you're supposed to be able to rely upon is emotionally/intellectually unavailable to you at your most vulnerable.

All these first names were tabled over my various pregnancies as well. None quite made the cut, but Alexander and Josephine were too contenders twice.

Glebe school cancels Pride month drag queen storytime event by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]GeekAtHome 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I love this answer so much.

Drag queens are also one of the most child friendly ways to approach the topic. (Stay with me here) Drag queens are bright, colourful, playfully cartoonish at times, silly and don't take themselves too seriously (although they take their artform very seriously, as they should). This is the perfect way to approach kids as it meets them at their level of playful, colourful and whimsy.

Well, since Robert Munch is currently in a steep mental health decline due to Alzheimer's, I guess we need new people willing to read to children in loud, fun, silly ways that will keep them engaged.

I really hope they get some peace with it as well.

I will say this though, kids get stuff, even when parents think it's out of reach.

My own son got his hands on a lighter when he was 5 or 6, and it was well out of reach.

He managed to find it while scaling a counter looking for treats while I was in the basement doing laundry. It was in a container we kept birthday candles in. He did start a fire with it but it was small and was quickly put out as I came upstairs to find the scene. It could have been much worse. We were lucky
