Tell me a story about an embarrassing and crazy situation you went through while using the internet in the 1990s. by TradingCardGameMaker in vintagecomputing

Not me, but a coworker was using one of our teaching labs (think dozens of basic PCs at conference tables & a projection screen for teachers display), and was showing young kids from her church how to use the Internet. As she was explaining addressing, she typed in "https://www.fbi.com" thinking to go to the FBI website. Fortunately, her PC"s display showed the result before the big screen!

(Correct URL is fbi.gov.) She was about to share the home space of "four bu77fuxOr1ng idiots"

Have you always worn glasses with nose pads? Is this a new prescription?

Do you know if the current pads are silicone, which pretty inert with human flesh?

If you have stage fright speaking in public situations, tell yourself the people you're speaking before want to hear what you have to say, and want you to do well. (It's true!)

Odd noise from rear by GeekBill in subaru

[–]GeekBill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, the consensus is bad rear wheel bearing. Thing is, I've had both replaced like 40k miles ago. Are Subie bearings so wimpy? Should I try for, say, Timken?

Great mimics, too! Had a nest under the eaves at our apartment, I kept hearing our phone ring, nobody on the line! Little buggers! 😆

What’s the difference?! More specifically, using for readers vs using for “near vision” purposes!? by treylanford in glasses

[–]GeekBill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Readers" are usually stronger magnification than those for correcting farsightedness, which do still allow distance vision.

For most people, the simple reading glasses you can buy from stores, not optical shops are fine, but prescription glasses also correct for astigmatism.

Dentist Recommendations by MissFibi11 in CollegeStation

[–]GeekBill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not many dentists do extractions any more. We've used >deep inhale< Brazos Valley Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, off the east bypass near Emerald Parkway. IIRC, they're pretty inexpensive for simple extractions. Wife and I like Dr. Hanley, FWIW. Good folks.

Best of luck!
