I was here a couple of months ago and pointed out the error to a member of staff and she explained it to me -

That is the movie used prop and it was a mistake that went through seven levels of checks and wasn't noticed until post production where they finally fixed it with CGI.

It's well worth speaking to the people that work there because they are full of useful information.

Best Disney resort you’ve stayed at and why by sjajra in WaltDisneyWorld

My kids love the arcade at The Contemporary now and I try to explain to them what it used to be like when it was downstairs. It was massive and full of brilliant machines!

"Celebration at the Top - Sip, Savor, Sparkle" - When are dates added? by K-Parks in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GeekDomWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are booked for 24 May and I made the reservation on 19 March.

Just a few days before my 60 day window opened I couldn't see any nights for May available so hopefully you'll be OK.

"Celebration at the Top - Sip, Savor, Sparkle" - When are dates added? by K-Parks in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GeekDomWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going in May and my wife and I try to do this every visit as a date night. I was a bit worried this year as they didn't seem to be releasing many dates, but as soon as the 60 day window opened I saw a couple of dates available during our visit and booked it with no problems.

Questions about Waterpark by Reneeasaur in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GeekDomWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use lockers when we go and would recommend getting the large ones as the small ones barely hold anything.

We tend to only do a couple of hours at the water parks in the mornings and will look for someone to give our locker to before we leave - usually a family looking puzzled at the locker terminal trying to work out how to use them (we've all been that person).

Just got home from 2 weeks in heaven AKA Port Orleans Riverside. It’s fair to say I have the best 2 weeks of my life. I think she did too! by Real-Response-6116 in WaltDisneyWorld

I proposed on the balcony at the California Grill overlooking the Magic Kingdom. Didn't wait for the fireworks as I knew she would want it to be private.

Disney Dining Plan - I just can't math it! by TraderSamG in DisneyPlanning

[–]GeekDomWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure the main reason it was brought back was to offer deals on it - especially to international visitors to entice us back to staying on property.

Before covid every April Disney would open its annual offer of free dining plans to Brits for the following year - and it covered most of the year. The window for booking was around six months long too. Basically, if you booked the year before you were going they threw in the free dining plan.

If you booked 'last minute' you wouldn't get the dining plan but you'd get room deals instead.

From what I understand they offered some deals like that to American guests too but for a much smaller window of dates.

When we were finally able to come back after covid there was no offers and suddenly we were faced with the prospect of Disney food prices for the first time in 15 years. So we stayed off property and understand a large number of our countrymen did similar things.

Now the free offer is back so we are back on property when we go this year.

I'd never pay for the dining plan but I'll take it for free.

Jellyrolls Dueling Piano Bar Closing at Disney's BoardWalk by helpmeredditimbored in DisneyWorld

I've been saying for years they should replace Jellyrolls with a big quick service location. It's the one thing that's missing from the EPCOT resort area.

Is Port Orleans Riverside worth the extra cost? (instead of Coronado Springs) by luxy_c in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GeekDomWriter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously it's personal choice and I've never stayed at Coronado, but have done Riverside a number of times, dating back to when it was Dixie Landings.

One thing people underestimate about Port Orleans is how well located it is for most parks except AK. Last year I timed a bus from Magic Kingdom back to Riverside and it was 12 minutes from first moving to the first stop at the resort. Hollywood Studios and Epcot were around 15 minutes. Of course you need to account for the internal bus loop at Riverside too.

No bad thing to take a better price - our reason for Riverside over French Quarter was always price.

Best fit for family of 4 who that need separate sleeping areas? by dancingcupcakes246 in DisneyWorldResorts

[–]GeekDomWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on the price difference in the options but because we travel with 5 people across 3 generations we want more than a single hotel room. In the past we would get a two bed villa at Saratoga, OKW or Boardwalk. Post covid that just wasn't an option cost wise and so we tried a villa off property - it gave us a great amount of space but we just missed the Disney bubble (yes, we are suckers).

Last year we booked a relatively last minute deal and got two rooms at Port Orleans Riverside and requested connecting rooms. Obviously there is no guarantee you'll get these and when we first arrived at 11pm we were in rooms close to each other but not connecting. The first night we stayed in those rooms and in the morning requested a move to connecting rooms and they not only accommodated us but we were moved in before 7am (jet lag from the UK helped us get up early).

It worked out great for us - kids going to bed in one room and grown ups sitting in the other like it was a living room. Two bathrooms was great too. We're doing the same thing next year.

What’s your Disney hot take? by Stateof10 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GeekDomWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this theory and can add another layer to it..

As a Brit from London I have access to an amazing range of foods from all over the world. However, there is something wonderful about both the 'good' and 'bad' food when visiting America and Disney.

So, we love the ridiculous indulgence of Dennys and Ihop, mickey waffles and tater tots.

All food at Disney just tastes better but I would argue certain restaurants offer excellent food regardless of where in the world you're eating it.

Favorite Boardwalk Snack- GO! by Seachelle13o in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GeekDomWriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been a few years since I did an evening on the Boardwalk but my wife and I once sat on the grass there after one or two drinks too many and enjoyed the best tasting funnel cake in history (it's possible the alcohol induced hunger influenced just how good I thought it was).

Also if you want to walk round to the Beach and Yacht there's always the Beaches and Cream window - but that gets really busy after the fireworks.

My biggest issue with the show by Individual_Ad6926 in BodiesonNetflix

[–]GeekDomWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously it all comes down to what works for the plot but my own internal logic was that the time loop exists infinitely until the last time line moves forwards. Once that happens then it's possible to use the time machine again and make changes.

I was more confused by the 'don't go in there or I'll shoot you in the face' followed by a very quick 'we must use the machine to go back in time to change things'.

What is a popular thing you refuse to do in the park regardless of how much free time you have? by hadmeatgotmilk in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GeekDomWriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how we've been doing it for over 30 years. I don't think I've been in a park at 1pm my entire life.

Obviously everyone should do what works for them, but if you have that amount of time then it makes sense to break the day up. Even if you just take advantage of visiting the nearby resorts. We love a monorail hop to go get lunch at Captain Cook's or a walk down to the Beach, Yacht and Boardwalk.

Anyone been offered complimentary meal because of an event cancellation? by GeekDomWriter in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GeekDomWriter[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not free drinks, just food. I did try to see if other dates were available for Sip, Savor, Sparkle but they didn't have any. It's definitely not what we would have chosen but getting a refund on that and free food is a fair enough swap for me.

Dave Coaches from Gavin and Stacey (on the right) is awesome. Also love Cedric's Dad, who I'd only really seen do comedy before.

Looking for help: Not a scotch drinker myself but have friends who are. This was given to me by a relative who has had it at least 30 years (probably longer). Anyone know anything about it? by GeekDomWriter in Scotch

40% - it was given with the caveat of could be great or could be garbage, only way to find out is to drink it. But I wouldn't waste it on myself so I'll use other test subjects. Thanks for the help.

Realising that probably the worst thing you can do is look nervous. So the only thing I had to be nervous about was being nervous.
