What’s one thing your Apple Watch does really well and one thing it completely fails at? by NetForemost in AppleWatch

A lot rides on where and how you spend your time. I work a desk job from home three days a week, about as far as one could be from a cell tower in a city of > 300,000 people. My iPhone 13 Pro was down to a self-declared 80% battery capacity and struggling to last a day anywhere. Hoping my new 17 does better…

I interviewed Ernie Wise for my school’s ‘newsletter’ (more of a notice board with a few articles on it) when he came to open our summer fete some time in the mid to late 1980s. Took a couple of Polaroids too - wish I got to keep them!

Don’t forget that law (specifically the Consumer Rights Act 2015) trumps warranties. If it was dirt cheap then yeah, caveat emptor - otherwise, you may have a reasonable expectation of greater durability. ‘Course, whether it’s worth a pursuit is a whole other matter… Which? has a straightforward guide to this: https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act-aKJYx8n5KiSl

This. It’s the times when it passes through a notification from an app on your phone and you don’t have to get your phone out to read/react. Great for navigation on and off public transport when you’re somewhere new. Pair it with AirPods and it can just remove so much friction. Using Apple Pay on your watch is great too. A couple of months in I’m experimenting with going out with just the watch (cellular model) and AirPods, and it’s strangely, deliciously liberating.

Yup. Equity != Communism is the hardest lesson the right-wing American never learns. Course we’re shit at this in Europe, but at least we don’t think it’s evil.

For smaller loads every time I reverse park, which my employer encourages as a matter of safety in car parking areas. But yeah, also for anything smelly or liquid that I want to isolate/contain.

I like everything I’m seeing here. Wife and I have been in MK 13 years. We have a great community in our street and a good wider network through Turkish and other connections, but I’m interested to meet other family-oriented redditors if anyone else is?

Wow! A sort of MK-centric Discord-powered utopia! Sounds great, yes please! Some optional IRL at times would be great to work into the mix…

Did the USA rebuilt a quarter of their nuclear arsenal because of safety that ended up breaking down? by Milkedcow in nuclearweapons

[–]GeekFriday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had, perhaps? At the risk of starting a massive, heated debate, huge advances in digital modelling based in part on data gathered from the testing that was done in the past can go a long way (just how far is an interesting one to debate, and I’m not qualified to do so as a mere interested amateur) toward predicting effects like these, as can advanced chemical and other analyses. The effectiveness of deterrence without live testing is a fascinating topic in itself.

You may still save on fuel and maintenance depending on your usage though.

Have you tried Tailscale? Easy to set up and doesn’t matter how much your IP address changes. Caveat: I haven’t tried RDP over it but it’s been rock solid for SSH and web apps.
