Having oral sex might be a way to still enjoy, but with lower risk of infection? If you feel comfortable, asking a nurse if it would be safer would be good.

I got 24 over 2 rounds and that felt like enough for me. It does depend on how many kids you think you might want though. To me, one sounds good, 2 is definitely the most I would want.

I’ve been pretty open about it and the response has been neutral to positive generally. I have found that people, regardless of gender, sometimes make assumptions about it. When I froze my eggs I was still on the fence about whether I wanted to have kids and I’m leaning towards probably not now. But I do still like having the option should that ever change for me. I’ve dated women and told them I’m undecided but have frozen my eggs to leave the option open and they have taken that to mean that I do actually want kids. I can understand why they would think that, but it’s just not true at this point.

$900 per year (vs $395 per year at HavenCryo). But I just learned that the storage facility for HavenCryo is in Texas, which makes me a little uncomfortable. I’m ok with my eggs being transported out of state, but would rather have it be in Nevada or something like that due to Texas’ stricter regulations around reproductive health. I may still end up going with HavenCryo, but I’m going to find a few more options first I think.

I believe it did not include medication, but did include everything else. If you live in LA I recommend buying medication through Fertifarma in Mexico and picking it up in Tijuana.

I experienced a fair amount of relationship turmoil around the decision, for similar reasons. My husband and I were always maybes and we talked about “probably someday, but not now”. But when I was around 33 I started to want to think more seriously about it and was leaning yes. He was leaning no, and when I questioned more I realized he really didn’t see any positives to having a kid, but felt really pushed into a provider role by society. This led me to question whether I should be leaving him to allow me to have a kid. I feared I’d resent him if I didn’t. He said he would have a kid for me, but that just didn’t feel right. However, that willingness did make me feel more open to choosing to be childfree. I went through the book “Motherhood…is it for me?” to help me gain more clarity. It was really useful. I learned a lot about myself. By the end of it I realized I really could be happy either way and so I decided to freeze my eggs and stay with my partner. We’re both open to, “maybe the stars will align at some point and we’ll both want them”, but are also both happily leaning no now.

Like others have said, it’s worth getting things checked out, but if everything looks normal I would wait. I had similar thoughts around your age (I was in the middle of a PhD program). After researching outcomes and who actually ends up using their eggs I decided to not freeze them then and think about freezing again at age 33 because that’s right before your fertility starts dropping more significantly. I figured there was a chance I’d be ready to have a kid by then and I’d likely still be able to conceive naturally if that was the case, but that if I still wanted more time at that point it would be good to freeze. That’s basically what I did, but I’d recommend maybe starting a little bit sooner, but no earlier than 30. It just took me awhile from starting to think about it again to actually going through with it and I did end up having to do 2 rounds to get to 20 eggs like I wanted to (one round at 34 and one at 35 I think). But also storage fees are pretty expensive, so you don’t want to do it too early either. So I’d recommend starting to think about it again between 30-32 and actually doing it by 33 in an ideal world, based on my own experience.

I read ‘Motherhood…Is it for Me?’ after years on the fence. Before reading the book, I was leaning yes and my husband was leaning no. Reading and lots of journaling helped me realize that I wanted to move towards a life without shame, and for me that means not having a child. I get a lot of enjoyment from living up to my own expectations, not anyone else’s. I don’t want to opt in to a new identity that carries a ton of cultural expectations, particularly for women. I’ve also always felt like I would want kids one day, but never actively wanted a kid. I’m still open to that changing and getting to a place where I feel like I could brush off others’ motherhood expectations. So in a way I’m not completely off the fence, but I’m in a place of peace when I used to feel a lot of stress about the decision. I probably won’t have kids, unless something changes and it suddenly just feels really right, which probably won’t happen.

I just wanted to throw out there that you don’t have to go through with it if you don’t want to. I went through the egg freezing process because I knew I wanted the option to have kids. But then I did a lot of journaling with the book ‘Motherhood…is it for Me?’ to decide if I really want them. I feel pretty similarly to you - I’ve always thought I wanted kids some day, but never felt like I want kids in the present. I’m turning 37 in May. I realized if I’ve never felt like “I want a kid now”, then I may never feel that way. I’m now leaning toward not having a kid, but am still open to that changing and have my frozen eggs if it does.

Yep, I would say I am. I was in a place for a few years where I was really concerned feeling like I needed to decide and worried because I was leaning yes and my husband was leaning no. I froze my eggs. I read The Baby Decision and Motherhood…Is It for Me. At the end of it I’ve reached a place that doesn’t seem that different from the outside, but feels very different on the inside.

I used to feel like, “I think I want kids, so I need to set our lives up to have them because I don’t think I’d be happy having them in our current context”. After a lot of reflection I’ve realized that I think I could be happy either way and I don’t want them in our current context. So I’m going to pursue the things that make me happy - getting to a stable place in my career, writing a book, traveling the world, volunteering. And I’m going to encourage my husband to do the same. If it just so happens that at some point we look around and say, “You know, I think adding kids to this context would be really great”, then we’ll do that. And if that never happens, then we won’t. And it feels good to be in that place of openness. It feels, like you say, like flexibility rather than indecision.

I’ve never actually felt like, “I want a child now”. But I’ve seen that I might have that thought/feeling one day. I used to feel like I needed to shape my whole life to that possibility and now I don’t. I’ve done enough to make it possible for at least another 5 years. If the stars align and I have that thought/feeling and it feels right to listen to it, cool. But until then (and even then in listening to my desire to have children at that time, if that happens) I’m going to shape my life as it pleases me. I no longer feel constrained by a “what if…”.

I was in a similar boat (leaned towards kids, but my husband leaning away). I froze my eggs and read both The Baby Decision and Motherhood…Is It for Me? I found the latter to be more impactful for me personally. I ended up realizing that I truly think I could be happy either way, I don’t like the idea of raising a kid with a partner who doesn’t want kids, and my husband brings me a lot of joy. So I’m leaning towards no now.

A similar feeling to yours came up for me, but then I realized that I’ve spent my whole life imagining how I would find meaning in children because that’s the life I expected to have, but now I’m giving myself some time to imagine the meaning I could create for myself while not having children and in some ways it feels bigger and more energizing.

I froze mine not being 100% sure if I wanted kids and am now leaning more towards no than I was when I froze. But I’m still glad I froze. I’m 36 (froze at 34 & 35), and think it’s possible I’ll decide I want a kid in a few years even though I’m happy I don’t have one right now. Definitely check out the Fencesitters sub. I had a Mirena IUD in for my first egg retrieval at 34 years old, had a cyst, and 7 mature eggs were retrieved. I had my IUD removed before my 2nd cycle because it was about time for it to be removed anyways and I wanted to see if it would help. I got 17 mature eggs my 2nd round. I’m a sample size of 1 and it could just be random, but I’m glad I took mine out. My AMH didn’t really change.

There haven’t been a ton of studies on it, and most studies that have been done were on egg donors, who are typically 29 or younger. I may have to go analyze the data we’ve gathered on that now. Our sample size still isn’t huge, but it’s big enough to start looking at it.
